The air was knocked out of her as she was thrown backwards by the attack, slamming into the floor with a pained wince. FEAR shield or not, that attack had hurt like hell. Still her lips were curved in a shaky smile as she propping Chara upright, using her weapon to support herself as she struggled to her feet. "You and Vanna make quite a deadly combo, Before." She laughed, rubbing at her side.
Things weren't looking good for her, but Eva sure as hell wasn't going to give up. She swung out with the blunt end of her staff, though she lost her footing at the last minute. Though she felt her weapon meet their target, it didn't have nearly as much force behind it as she had wanted.

Before gave an audible oof at the follow up strike from Eva, probably with more theatrics than necessary. "Urgh, y-yeah? You think so? Even deadlier than my first weapon?" he joked.
Vanna did not see the humor in Before's words. While she was aware of her partner's... penchant for footwear, hearing him refer to it as his first weapon made her hackles rise. If she had any hackles to rise. The wheel seemed to be holding back as Before made to push the staff away so he could retaliate. Perhaps despite the amount of weight he put into the heft, it wasn't as effective as his earlier strike.
Also it could be because he was aiming this time. His luck was strangely inopportune for his foes every now and again. Just not this moment.

Eva laughed, eyes twinkling in amusement. "Much deadlier. Honestly? I kind of feel bad for those monsters now." If there was one thing that she had learned, it was that there were some pretty capable trainees on this Island.
...Even if Caelius seemed to be under the impression that they were all disappointments. Okay, so Before had spoken (cheered?) out of turn during that meeting, but he was pretty damn skilled with that wheel of his.
Better keep her distance and figure out a plan!

"Ah ha, my partner compensates for me," Before admitted. "Are you and yours getting to know each other better?" he asked.
Take your chance, silly Before!!! Vanna instructed to her partner. All too often, Vanna had to coax and badger the brunette into remembering that they were in the middle of a fight. There would be plenty of time for chatting later. The Life trainee mentally nodded and charged forward, turning into a spin on his heel as he brought the large wheel around.

Eva took the blow surprisingly gracefully, though her attempt at a counter-attack turned into a weak swipe. Boy, she really need to practice more, didn't she? She distanced herself a few paces from Before before answering his question.
"Chara and I? We get along pretty well!" She grinned down at the weapon in her hand, "It was a little weird at first though. You know, having someone else living in your head?" Fortunately, as the more experienced trainees had promised her, Eva had learned to get used to it rather quickly. The fact that her weapon was a quiet one helped matters.

Before paused in thought, pursing his lips to Hmmmmm at Eva's question. "Yeaaaah, it was some kinduva sorta weird at first. But like everyone says, you do get used to it. Maybe not completely, but hey, at leas you'll never be lonely!" he grinned, giving Eva a thumb's up X3 Vanna simply sighed at her partner's too friendly attitude, Silly Before, you keep forgetting we're in the middle of a spar...

Haha, it was true about the lonely thing! Though..."Kind of means you don't have any privacy either," She said dryly, shaking her head, "I mean, I don't mind sharing my thoughts with Chara...but I'm sure there are some people out there who liked having their private thoughts kept to themselves." She supposed that it didn't matter much though, since the weapons couldn't actually go off and gossip with anyone else.

"Eh, I'm an open book," Before shrugged, feigning the whole I-am-totes-okay-with-people-knowing-my-insecurities. "People prolly wouldn't need a mind reader to figure out what's going on in my noggin!" he laughed, then added with a teasing wink of "Hint: Absolutely NOTHING~"
There were times when Vanna sorely wished she could communicate with someone other than Before. While she did choose him and bonded with him, that didn't mean she couldn't see room for improvement with the Lifer. Actually, she could see a great deal for improvement. Another mental nudge, this time accompanied with several choice words, Before reluctantly remembered they were in a spar. But he was enjoying talking to her too much ;; So instead of swinging the wheel, he made a sudden lunge that ended with him giving the girl a tight hug.

The hug startled Eva, and she lifted Chara over her head in an attempt to ensure that Before didn't impale himself. The girl stood, gasping for air at the rib-crushing hug. With a weak smile, she wrapped her arms around him and gave him a little pat on the back. "Y-yes, I...uh, t-thank you...B-before...now please...let go..."
She tried to be gentle with prying his hands off (but there was a sense of "I am dying please let go" in her expression).

Before gave Eva one last happy hug before he threw his arms wide to let her go. "Ack! Sorry! Sorry!!" xAx he apologized. Then remembered what Otto told him and maybe it was because Vanna disapproved so much of the Deather that she nudged him to ask, "Uh... is it true that if you pretend you don't like a girl or aren't into her, it'll make her faun all over you?"

She gasped for air as she was let go, desummoning Chara in favour of wrapping her arms around her bruised ribs. Oh god, that hug had actually hurt like hell. This guy really was the most deadly when he didn't realize it! Something about this fact made her smile and, with one arm still wrapped around her middle, she reached out to clap a hand on his shoulder. "Haha, it's fine! Though I think that's as much sparring as I can do right now. Nice job, Before!"
Her eyes grow round with curiosity as it became evident that he wanted to ask her something. Eva stared at him blankly after he voiced his question, and then she laughed. "Good god, who gave you that advice? Now listen here..."

"Hey, no worries about the sparring! And uuuuuh, i-it was Otto-matic," :<<<< he answered truthfully. Was he throwing Otto under the bus? N-no! Of course not! He was just clarifying things with the actual... uh target audience of said technique. Then again, would Eva be telling him the truth if she didn't realize it herself? @ 3@a this was all so very confusing for Before.

Otto was giving out this kind of advice?
Eva burst out laughing, wrapping her arms around herself as she doubled over. And god, did it ever hurt to laugh with those bruised ribs, but it was impossible not to. She figured that Otto wasn't the kind to go around and share these kinds of "tips" with people, so Before must have gone to him for advice in the first place.
Bahahaha, oh god.
"Before? Let's go sit down somewhere. I have a lot to talk to you about."
