Dark paused in her steps and put the cub down to, rather pleasantly, reply, "Oh, nowhere in particular, whoever comes along first."

Cue could have murdered someone. But it was very bad form to murder your own mother. "I'm not sure that's a viable plan of action," she grumped instead.

Dark nosed at the cub before her, making to pick it up again, "The Motherfather will provide! I have no idea where your siblings might be, but it won't be long till we run into one of them, I'm sure."

Heat Rises.
The buck had been milling about the swamp this day, feeling no inclination to do much more than browse for the first two meals of the day and take a leisurely stroll. It wasn't like the usually spirited Kimeti, but everyone had an off day now and again. Still, he couldn't put his hoof on it and today had been rather drab since he had awoken. At least, so it seemed.
He paused as he passed between two tilted trees, ears twitching and head turning as he picked up the sound of feet upon the loamy floor. His eyes widened a touch when lo and behold two does came into view. Their markings were familiar and it wasn't long after that Heat was trotting toward them, smiling at both despite the offness of his day.
"Mother! Cue!" He stopped just short of the two, looking at the cubs that accompied. His head tilted; what colorful cheetahs. "And cubs too."

"Hello, Heat." Cue hadn't seen much of her twin since they were both foals - but even she might have been more enthused in her greeting had her impeccable logic not just been squashed flat and ground into the mud by her mother's baffling serendipity. It made no sense at all that her brother would just happen to wander along as soon as she had questioned the validity of running all over the swamp with no aim in mind as a gameplan. "Fancy seeing you here."

Dark had no such thoughts preying on her mind. She'd visibly brightened as soon as her son appeared, leaning forward to make sure, then loping over with tangible pleasure. She hadn't the opportunity to see Heat as much as she'd like, and it felt to her very much as if the Swampmother had smiled upon their meeting. Yes, it would be perfect if Heat would take a cub. "Yes," she nudged the furry bundles with enthusiasm, "Far found a lady cheetah and brought these back to me. Would you like one?"

Heat beamed at the two does who stood before him, enjoying the odd break in his dull day immensely. To his twin - when she spoke - he gave a nod of his head, chuckling lightly under his breath at her odd phrasing.
"I could say the same about you, you know." He tilted his head in jest as he spoke and made to say more before Dark interrupted and drew his eyes back down to the colorful bundles at her feet. They were adorable little things but his admiring didn't last long due to his mother's cheery question graced his ears.
"Would you like one?"
As it was spoken Heat's head snapped up, eyes widening with surprise. His day had definitely turned right around, and all in the span of a couple of minutes. Fancy that.
"Me?" Heat asked as though he couldn't believe she had questioned him. The buck looked to his twin just to be sure before turning back to his mother and then the cubs playing in the leaves before her. His mouth opened to say something, but he closed it when nothing came out, weighing the question and asking himself if he did want one and if he could care for one.
All signs pointed to 'yes' on both accounts. Nothing was really stopping him and that look on his mother's face...He couldn't say 'no' to her, could he?
"They are rather cute," he said without sounding like he was giving a yes or no just yet. Heat dipped his head down to look at the two cubs but his eyes continually went back to the pinker of the two - that one seemed to have a lot of gusto in him and his colors reminded the buck of a dawn on what would probably be a fantastic day. Gently he nosed that cub, taking a surprised step back when said cheetah made to n** him on the nose in return. Heat chuckled again. He liked that fire.
"This one's pretty...Hey!" Another step back was taken as the dawn-colored cub attached himself to Heat's leg, gumming the Kimeti's shin in a manner that was more play than actual assault. The sudden shock of this made the buck sputter a surprised laugh and Heat couldn't help but shake his head at the two does. "I guess I will take one, mother. This one." He tried to hold out the leg the cub had attached himself to, but the weight and grip the cheetah's claws had on him prevented Heat from doing more than giving it a slight shake.

Cue raised a browridge as the cub latched onto Heat just like that. But, really, she shouldn't have been surprised - more than any of the others, she considered, her twin had inherited their mother's good nature, and others - including cheetah cubs, it seemed, reacted to that in kind. "It likes you," she said, a little dryly, but not unkindly. One down, one more to go. "See you around, Heat." She picked up the remaining cub, hoping to hurry her mother along - or surely she would stay the next hour staring adoringly at the adorable scene, she had that look in her eye already.

And quite a look it was, for Dark was downright ecstatic - her customarily solemn demeanour prevented much of her joy from showing outwardly, but the decidedly dewy-eyed expression on her face, the helplessly soppy smile, made it rather clear that she couldn't have hoped for a better outcome. Lost in memories of her own Far as a little one (the rose-tinted veil of nostalgia for the moment obscured the fact that she had never known him so little, already a half-grown bolt of lightning by the time he'd swiped her ocean bounty that fateful night), it took Cue's desperate nudge, carried cub and all, before she was roused enough to conclude, "It looks like you haven't a choice, dear Heat! I am so pleased."

"Letsh go, m'ther," it took Cue no small amount of self-control to keep from rolling her eyes. Even the cub in her jaws was getting tired of being dangled, twisting slightly and chirping in protest.

Ah, yes, now that one was warm and safe, the other deserved a permanent home as fast as they could manage. Affectionately nuzzling both son and cub - Far, on his part, bid his offspring farewell with a quick rasped (and perhaps sheepish) yowl - she finally made to leave. "Take care, my dear. I'll be around to visit when your cat is further grown."

With the shake of his leg came a displeased mewling from the cub, a sound which made Heat stop all movement all together to look down at the little bundle of fur. At his twin's dry statement, the buck raised his head, giving what could only be a Kimeti-version of a silly grin. He guessed so, if that gnawing on his shin was any indication of being liked rather than being a chew toy.
When Cue gave her farewell, Heat raised a brow ridge of his own - almost expecting a longer time together at the moment - but when his sibling bent down to pick up the other cub he understood immediately. He gave his sister a nod and turned to their mother, immediately turning sheepish with the expression she wore on her face. Ah jeez, it was one of those moments that would live forever in her mind - or so Heat assumed.
"I guess not," Heat replied, again with a chuckle. "I'll take good care of him." He had never considered a pet before, but now, like his mother had said, it seemed he hadn't a choice in the matter really. When the two does readied themselves to depart, Heat did his best to get out of the way, dragging his leg and the cub attached across the leaves. This made the cub mewl again in displeasure, but that negative sound passed as soon as the buck was rooted on a single spot again.
"Goodbye Cue, and you too, mother." He gave both does another bow of his head. "I look forward to the visit!"
Once both does were out of sight, Heat looked down at the cub. His head cocked to the side and a look of contemplation crossed his face. Now that he had a pet, that pet needed a name.
"What am I going to call you?"

Cue did not go far before she dropped the cub to offer a 'suggestion'. She rather thought that if she had to follow her mother around in circles waiting for a sibling to come along anymore she would go mad, so it was time to head in the direction of siblings she had a better idea of where was in the first place. "Let's go give this to Death and Cry."
