Cymbeline began giggling the moment the first trainee entered the room. And that was the end of any remotely serious discourse one would have with this heir. The Insanity crawling through her mind left her with little room for distractions, and the choice to acknowledge them or brush them off as just that was not within her abilities.

Especially here, where there was just so much Insanity!

Famine's heir eyed each of the trainees with sinister delight, the queen of the white walled room evaluating her new subjects as they stood below her. See, they were even offering sandwiches! How kind of the master hunter, their white, disgusting lord to offer his little roachy servants to guard and entertain her. Knights and court jesters all in one!

When she finally took the photos to examine, the laugh she let out was loud enough to rattle her ribs. The staccato clatter provided an eerie counterpoint. "BUSY ENOUGH, and still decorating!" She squealed in maniacal glee, nearly falling out of her chair with amusement. Suddenly her grin was evil, sinister, and her voice was teasing. "Did any of your little insects help?"

"I do miss that lair~ Oh but it is only that much better with the renovations! Nothing grows there, nothing survives, the blighted sands where all will wither and die, slowly... Parched and dry... " Cymbeline slipped into reminiscing, for that lovely home she had not seen in many years.

Gale folded his arms across his chest, mutely watching the exchange between the horsewoman and Caelius with a darkly scrutinizing expression on his face. He remembered her, of course - had seen her more often than not, and now her gaze swept over each of them, maniacal delight clearly evident in her insane eyes.

<< She's an interesting one, isn't she. >> Jinhai murmured, his voice low in Gale's ear, and though the tone was light, mistrust and irritation was clearly laced through it. It was not as though Jinhai was still a creature of Halloween - at least not in body, but he at least shared the same views as Gale. It was perhaps why they worked so well as a team.

If my interesting you mean bloody mad, then yes, responded Gale, fingers tightening just the slightest where his hands rested on his arms. She's -

"BUSY ENOUGH, and still decorating!"

The horsewoman's voice rang out, loud and giggling, reverberating through Gale's mind. His eyes flew wide, a horrible anger searing through his veins.

"Still decorating." "Where all will wither and die slowly."

Images flashed through Gale's mind, tumbling one right after the other, melting together - bodies, sand, a redheaded man, the flash of blue fire erupting, the horrible screech of a monster -

White hot fury nearly made his head spin; he wanted to step forward, to grab the horsewoman around her neck and throttle her until she had breathed her last breath, until the rattling of her ribs ceased.

His fingers had paled, gripping his jacket so tightly, and Jinhai's voice was calm in his head.

<< No. Don't. Caelius will have your head faster than you will have hers. >>

Every ounce of Gale's self control was now poured into not leaping forward, into holding himself very, very still. He had not moved from his position, still standing against the wall with his arms folded across his chest.

His eyes, however, were fixed solely on the horsewoman.

Thankfully Caelius's presence prevented any other trainees from rising to the provocation as he pushed against the table - just enough to send the Heir of Famine toppling back to the ground, chair landing noisily on top of Cymbeline. He walked over and placed one foot against the base of the chair, pinning the Heir to the ground further, her wing feathers practically splayed horizontal against the ground.

"Do you know what I enjoy about Insanity?" He leaned over, exerting more weight against the chair. "It makes you more naive. Your Insanity is reacting because your Fear is withdrawing, two sides to balance one equation. And while I would be flattered to say you are terrified of us, what you are truly terrified of is losing what you already have. Your status as an Heir. Your new role in Amityville, feeling as if you belonged again, after your Elders abandoned you after the Island. The reason they never contacted you again."

It was simple, the way the Famine Heir acted, to see right through it. She looked at the photos and bluffed through answers he already knew, sitting on her ivory tower, in a throne made of glass hoping the world around her would not come undone: that her clan had indeed moved on without her. That she was now an outcast.

"This is why I had no doubt that you would all follow me here, willingly. Because you were all afraid to lose that something else." While it looked like Caelius had half a mind to turn Cymbeline into the latest Famine Heir doormat, he finally stepped away, pulling out his cell phone. "I would like like to know the location of that map, Heir, if that even is your current status now." A pause. "Please keep our outcast restrained trainees, I do not want to return broken goods, especially ones fragile after damage."

He left just as promptly, one ear pressed against the phone.

OOC

- Trainees are now left with Cymbeline, they can talk/interact with her as they wish and ask the questions necessary
- It is probably ill-advised to get too close to her though
- At this point Cymbeline can also talk/interact with the other trainees, though she is disabled from any and all direct attacks by the shackles

Cymbeline laughed in an uproar all the way down, the force of her landing only momentarily halting her merriment. "Loss? Oh, but we have nothing to lose! Everything has already long spiralled down that dark corridor, status, roles, belonging, it has already gone... Disappeared~ Disappeared into the darkness~!"

She stared right into the master hunter's eyes with a startling intensity. "But you underestimate us. You underestimate what we can do. When one lives on borrowed time, all things are possible~ Is that what you fear? Is that what your dark, robot heart fears most?" The ghoul cackled, and then whispered like the wind through dead tree branches. "Do you fear we will never die?"

Her hissed laughter continued eerily as Caelius up and left. It would be hard to realize exactly who was putting up a front, whether the one spoke true, or the other was far too crazy to feel anything at all.

Cymbeline freed herself from the chair, simply and with a surprising amount of grace for one who had been toppled so rudely from her throne. And then she turned to regard her knights. Such white, glittering armor they wore... Would be prettier with some blood. Some entrails maybe, their shining cloaks lined in the deepest velvet and the darkest black, like a pit of doomed souls crying for release from their bound torture. Did those knights have souls? Or were they cold and without a pulse, their minds only for the tasks set before them by the master hunter?

Without a word she wandered over to the mirror and stared fixedly into it.

Madison's eyes narrowed, trying to translate Famine's ramblings into something that made sense. She could not see the pictures clearly, but the glimpses of color as they changed hands were really all she needed. That and Cymbeline's words. Blighted sands, nothing growing, nothing surviving. Parched and dry.

Desert.

Next to her, Gale tensed, apparently coming to the same conclusion she had - and then Caelius was moving, shoving Cymbeline down off her 'throne'. What he said was interesting too. Famine had come willingly. Heirs, new roles, that school again. Always that school...

And then he left. Leaving them with the crazy. Wonderful. But they had an assignment. They had to have been left here for a reason. True, that reason might just be Caelius being an a*****e, but... maybe they could get something else out of it. He had mentioned taking notes and observation, hadn't he?

"Hey," she said, out loud, voice raised so that the crazy could hear. Casual, but with an edge as coldly amused as she could manage. "You want to play a game?"

... Talk about a gamble.

Even through the gloves, his fingernails were cutting into his palms. Jordan stared at the mad Horsewoman with narrowed eyes, and kept his mouth shut, not trusting himself to speak. This thing might not be what had made that horrible, rotting pit of bodies, not directly, but she was kin to it, and the malicious glee in her voice had him seeing red. Don't react. Don't react.

I want to eat her, Ferros growled.

Oddly, that helped him calm down. We can't attack her.

The weapon growled again, the sense of his presence shifting and resettling sulkily. I'm hungry, he said petulantly.

The sheer normality of Ferros grumbling at him let Jordan unclench his fists and lean back against the wall. Still angry, but the fury had calmed to a manageable simmer. A sudden thought popped into his mind, and he put a hand on Maddie's shoulder; she'd been aggressive lately, and she might need an anchor to calm down, in much the same way that he had.

Entertain her? How the hell were they going to entertain her? She seemed to be the one that would be entertaining. "Yes, sir." Candace said anyway, putting her hands on her hips and just waiting to see what happened. A map? What map?

Decorating? Admittedly Candace was very curious how someone with no lungs or...organs to speak of was able to talk and laugh. She looked a little horrified by the sounds coming from this thing. Was that..place in the sahara her home?

I don't know what everyone's problem is. Like it. Candace grimaced. You would.

Candace snorted and tried not to laugh as Caelius knocked the chair off the table. Oh fun. Even if she did laugh the whole way down...ugh. Creepy. Ah, but Caelius. How delightful of him to be...Caelius. Yeah. Totally. He sure was good at saying things no one wanted to hear. But her words didn't seem all that upset. Sort of. "She has lost her damn mind.." Candace muttered, looking to each of her fellow trainees. Heh. Robot heart. That would explain so many things.

"Do you fear we will never die?"

Candace tensed, pursing her lips. They couldn't die. ********. Was she just quoting that beast from before or was it really true? She watched her wander off to the mirror like some vain little bird. Or maybe she was going to talk to her reflection. That'd be funny. I want to hug her. Candace chuckled and roller her eyes, Atropos' ridiculous request relaxing her slightly. No. There was a disappointed whine from the weapon and she left it at that. Can I hug her with my blades~? Oh...well..wait. Sorry, no. Caelius wouldn't be happy if we all killed her. There was another whine.

Madison spoke out and Candace raised a brow. "A game, Maddie?" Even with Jordan's hand on her shoulder Candace was curious to see what Madison was up to. Cymbeline did seem the playing type... "Don't you want to know what the game is first before you try to hold her back, Jordan?"

"Valid point," Jordan said, and dropped his hand, faintly irritated.

Madison hadn't needed the hand on her shoulder, true, but that didn't mean she'd minded it. When Jordan pulled away, she fought the urge to give Candace an irritated glare. "It's okay," she said, quietly, then looked back at the Horseman. Woman. Thing. And raised an eyebrow. "Not interested, sweetie?"

She could stand here all day. Oh yes.

"You want to play a game?"

Madison's voice came from beside him, unexpected and calm, though tinged with a definite icy tone. Gale's eyes cut towards the older girl, still unmoving from his position, but now his gaze narrowed just the smallest amount - more scrutinizing than anything, bemusement flickering across his face.

...what sort of game could she possibly play with...that thing? wondered Gale, glancing over at the horsewoman. Even after Caelius had knocked her down from her "throne," she had still laughed maniacally, her ribs clattering noisily, visible to everyone in the room.

And now they were alone with her.

Famine was staring off into the mirror, as though determinedly looking for something - though what exactly, Gale could not name. And he was not even sure he wanted to know what went through the mind of someone so completely driven by insanity like this one.

She's pathetic.

"Yes," said Gale, in a surprisingly level tone, despite the fact that he was almost shaking with suppressed rage. "I like Maddie's idea."

<< What exactly are they getting into here? What are YOU getting into? >>

Damned if I know.

At the mention of a game, Cymbeline's glance shifted, to regard the little humans in the mirror's dark reflection. Her smile didn't slip for a second.

"Haven't we been playing a game all along?" She muttered, gently, almost teasingly. "A thousand years long. Kings and queens, pawns, knights, bishops... Your world is a tantalizingly sweet checkerboard of light and dark, but is it light and dark who face each other on the battlefield?"

Cymbeline turned, casually striding to the very edge of her restraints where they crackled and sparked against her legs. But she paid them no mind. Pain was nothing, merely a tool used to coerce and deceive, the blackened, decaying pieces of oneself shrieking in agony as they died one by one, travelling through the body like the howl of a banshee, the echo of death itself... Pain was nothing~ And it was beginning to become unclear as to whether Famine's heir kept her distance because she was shackled there, or because she had no reason to go anywhere beyond her current reach.

Her smile was sickly sweet as she spoke again. "Do you know who stand opposite each other, little hunters?"

The tension in the room pitched even higher at the horseperson's words of sand and death parched dry. Ennéa looked around at her fellow hunters uneasily, unsure what to do or how to react. She had heard enough about the last mission from Maddie to guess that was what the creature was talking about...maybe? Ennéa wasn't sure.

Who cares? That glazed-eye is crazy. Baraz said in disgust. I don't know what Mr. Fancy Hair expects us to get out of her but it's not going to be anything coherent.

"Caelius wants us to ask about a map?" Ennéa reminded him helpfully.

Baraz snorted. Yeah, good luck with that.

Ennéa stood on her tip-toes and subtly leaned forward, peering around Jordan to get a better view of the mirror the horseperson was staring so intently into. All Ennéa could see was the room and their reflections with nothing of interest as far as she could tell. Maybe Baraz was right. Ennéa looked at the back of horseperson's head and then at its reflection in the mirror. At least it wasn't a vampire on top of everything else?

Ennéa turned and looked at Maddie when the older hunter suggested they play a game. It hardly seemed like the best time or place but maybe her friend had an idea. In any case, it was better than standing around awkwardly like this. "Okay? I'm in." She agreed.

Ennéa followed Maddie's gaze back to the horseperson, who was addressing them now. "Uh...." What was it saying? Something about chess pieces and light and dark?

"The opposing pieces?" She hazarded a guess with a small shrug. That's what you did in chess, anyway. Ennéa remembered from when her brother had taught her how to play; you first arranged the pieces all up facing each other.

"I was thinking more like... truth or dare. You know it?" She answered the Horseman's grin with one of her own. "I bet it'd be fun~"
PostPosted: Thu Dec 01, 2011 11:44 pm

"Would that make you the queen, then?" asked Gale loftily, still unmoving from where he was leaning against the wall, arms folded across his chest and an inscrutable expression on his face. "Queen of all - " He lazily wafted his hand through the air, gesturing around the small room. " - this?"

There was a crackling noise as the horsewoman moved too far, but she seemed unperturbed by the shocks. Not surprising, considering just how far down the line of madness Famine was, but Gale watched her with his normal calm expression, his eyes narrowing just the slightest.

Feisty little devil, isn't she?

<< If we only knew. >> remarked Jinhai, in a somewhat dry tone of voice. << Out of all of them, I'm rather certain this is the one that's the most crazy. >>

So it appears.

Madison's suggestion of Truth or Dare drew Gale's attention away from the horsewoman briefly, glancing sideways at the hunter beside him. He said nothing to either agree nor disagree with her statement, instead remaining silent for the time being.

Marcus kept his eyes on the restraints, watching to see if they would go taught and she would lash out. Her voice was like nails on chalkboard in terms of phrases, taunting and mocking in a way. Madison was playing a dangerous game. He could see a dare now. Let her free of the chains. Yeah no, he'd not play the rape game thank you.

Chess, "It is Hunter versus Hunter, dark and light are irrelevant." They might be called hunters, but they were still humans. Still 'prey' who could give them FEAR. A glance at Gale and the suggestion she might be the queen. Blue eye narrowed with distaste towards the horseman. "You're not a queen, not even a knight or bishop or rook." No, she was like the rest of them. "You're just a pawn. A piece that on it's own is weak, rather useless and helpless, but if it can make it to the other side, if it can break past the defenses-" Then she could become whatever she wanted. It was a bit of a stretch he'd admit, but not an utterly illogical one. "Then you might actually be more then what you're worth."

He could hear Dis in his head, telling how to make it 'fun'. Half of the ideas...Marcus wasn't exactly fond of. "Madison, as long as there are some ground rules..." As in, like ******** if he'd let the dare of undoing her locks fly by. Yeah, no. Standing by the door, Marcus leaned back. "The cards are in your hand Madison, let's see if you can draw us an ace from this joker."

Pun time was fun time.
