Harper noticed him look up toward his ears, and for a moment he felt like hiding them. It was something that passed quickly however, after all, Rhys wasn't "normal" either. He didn't feel like he was being judged. He reached a hand up and pulled the hood down so they were more easily seen. His hair was shaggy, which was probably in some vain attempt to hide the ears. Though the hair itself was rather odd. His hair was white and black, though not streaked. It was as if some of his hair was white, some was black, and it grew in patches. It gave him the appearance of being spotted.
The boy looked down after Tek moved away. He'd originally thought that it was somehow attached to the girl, but it seemed that whatever it was stayed with Rhys. "Having friends is nice," He said after a moment, "I don't really have that many." Though that was probably his own fault. He found talking to people wasn't all that easy. "I just thought that you guys might be together. I mean you're out here alone. If she's umm.. you mean she likes girls right?" He wasn't stupid, and the way Rhys had acted flustered probably meant he found that out the hard way.

Rhys tilted his head a little studying Harper as he removed his hood, a faint smile came to his face a moment noting the other teen's hair. Rhys however didn't say anything about it himself...
Tek picking up on xyrs guardian's interest in the other slowly moved in closer to Harper. Feeling a touch of interest as the hood came off Tek's attention went to the spots as well, the little fiend wasn't as quiet about xyrs thoughts however, your spotted! With the exclamation Tek darted closer and attempted to put poor Harper's ears.
Rhys' eyes widened in surprise and then watching the fiend attempt to assault Harper couldn't help but chuckle, "Tek!" Attempting to gain control and keep from laughing fully he leaned over intending to free Harper from the enthusiastic shadow.

The immediate instinct that overwhelmed Harper was to fling himself on the ground to avoid Tek, then scramble to his feet and into a dead run. The Pookah had many years of learning to resist the immediate flight response that seemed to be a rather ingrained part of his psyche. Instead he froze and held very... very... still. He'd been reassured that the creature wasn't going to harm him, and as unsure of that as he was he had this odd feeling that he could trust Rhys.
Okay so that was silly. Really. I mean they'd just met. Somehow Harper just got the feeling that this boy could understand him. Gaia was full of weird and crazy things, but kids were still cruel. They found ways to make you feel like an outsider.
The ears that Tek was so interested in molesting were flattened as much as they could be against his spotted hair. He didn't have the best control over them, as they were sort of loppy, so moving them to avoid the fiend wasn't really an option. When pain didn't immediately come from the contact of the little shadow, Harper started to relax. "I.. It's not gonna hurt me?" The statement sounded far more like a question then it should have.

Rhys bites his lip lightly to keep a sound of amusement at bay. He knew it was wrong but there was something a touch adorable about the other male. The amusement only lasted a moment however and Rhys leaned over and tugged Tek back gently. He may have sat watching the two longer if it wasn't so apparent how frightened Harper was, the poor guy looked like he might even be shivering. "No I promise, Tek won't hurt you...uhm...well Tek is just curious and tends to not know when it keep his hands to himself."
Tek's head dropped a little as xe was pulled away a soft disappointed sound expressed mentally toward the two. Xe didn't even get to touch the ears! They did look incredibly soft and interesting and some part of xemself just knew that they were amazing and snuggley.
Rhys tilted his head looking over toward Tek narrowing his eyes at the little shadow one last time before letting the other go. 'Be nice, we are making friends...which means don't grope all over the new person.' Rhys sent the thought to the shadow before his attention went more directly to Harper and he smiles. "Right so ... Tek won't hurt you and I promise not to hurt you. ... we didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." Clears his throat shifting his gaze to Harper's ears, "though your ears are rather soft looking I can see why he wanted to pet them." Holds his hands up letting Harper see them, "but I'll keep Tek from touching them and you don't have to worry about me doing it - at least not without permission." Grins lightly at the last trying to make his words sound a bit lighter.
Since xe wasn't allowed to touch Harper's ears Tek busied himself with curling up near the ground at Harper's feet watching the other curiously. 'Can you give Rhys ears like yours...I think your ears are much better...they are more fluffy and soft.' A touch of a giggle is heard as Tek asks as if the shadow knows that getting new ears isn't a thing you could do, the idea of it amused him however. Stretching out, Tek slides over beneath one of the nearby trees and moves to relax just lightly watching the two his boundless energy seeming to subside long enough to allow the fiend to relax in the shade.
Rhys narrows his gaze over toward Tek hearing the comment about his ears, reaching up he lightly touches his own ear consideringly before taking a breath and moving to sit on a tree stump closer to Harper. "Mmm, to answer your earlier question..." pauses considering his friendship with Suzi. "We aren't together as more than friends..." gives a little shrug resting back on the tree stump his gaze drifting to Harper, smiling a little. "You can be alone with a friend and just sit and talk it doesn't have to be romantic." Cants his head to the side a little, "I'm not great at making friends either, or well more than that..." shifts slightly looking a touch embarrassed briefly.
"But you seem like you'd be a pretty good friend to have, want to hang out with me for the rest of the day?" He smiles a little again, trying to look reassuring he meant what he said plus with Suzi gone it would get boring here fast, from what he'd seen so far he was pretty sure he would get along well with Harper as long as the other was interested in it.
