The sly little b***h, Clarice admired the move with approval even as she was stumbling back from the wicked slice across her own legs. "s**t and I liked this pair of stockings." Clothes you like: not the best thing to wear when sparring with magic weapons.

However there were certain downsides to being underneath a weapon as large and broad as Raeg. "Better, trainee, but have a little more situational awareness in the future, yeah?" This time she just let gravity do the work, letting the sword drop just enough to smack the girl's head.

Candace laughed. This was fun, actually! She much preferred Atropos over Circe any day! She could feel Atropos' glee when she thought this. "I'll get you a new pair." She was about to move away when her head suddenly connected with Raeg's side and she hit the ground with a groan, holding her head for as long as she would allow herself to do so. <********>! Owwwww! It wasn't so bad being smacked on the a** but her head?! Jesus christ!

"Won't let that happen again..." Candace muttered, eyeing Raeg thoughtfully in the moments it took for her to decide her next move. She couldn't hesitate. It was a spar but she needed to take it seriously.

She ran around Clarice this time to get at her from behind. It made sense! She had a big, heavy weapon! She couldn't just whip around with it...could she? Candace was hoping physics was on her side here, this time using the broadside of Atropos' own blade as she lifted her leg and hit it against Clarice's side. "I'm learning, eh?" She laughed, wobbling a little and holding her head. The world had spun for a second there.

Are you going to be alright? Candace nodded her head slowly. She'd be fine.

With a curse she twisted with the kick, one of her hands dropping to her side, even as the other swung Raeg around and into Candace, striking her with the bladed edge this time. She generally preferred to maintain a two a handed grip on the hilt, but she didn't have to.

She gave a soft laugh as she felt the blood seeping through her coat, "Your attack hit harder before, you know. But man...when you get the coat? Always a hit to the pride." The tension in her was slowly uncoiling from her neck and shoulders, her movements becoming more fluid.

She saw it coming and it surprised her, but only because of how it was angled. Oh no...nonon--she tried to brace for it but it still hurt so bad when she was struck by the bladed edge. Now she was glad she took her coat off. Damnit! She liked this tank top! "And here I thought I had it figured out." She winced, a hand on her side.

Candace grinned at the praise, taking the glove off the hand that had been pressed against her cut side and tossing it away. She'd wash it later. "Yeah, well you hit me in the head. And this is why I took my coat off. The quartermaster wasn't pleased I needed a new one after the haunted house put me in overalls and stole my uniform." Shaking her head.

Her head swam and she tried to shake it off, rubbing her side a moment before coming at Clarice again. She raised her leg like she was going to strike, even giving a bit of a spin...and instead gave Clarice a swift elbowing to the gut. Ha! She was grinning as she stumbled back away from her. It was good to mix up the attacks every now and then, right?

"Yeah that was pretty entertaining, How long did you have that mustache for?" She coughed a a bit at the elbow jab, "A bit cheap, I like it." She was grinning broadly as she swung Raeg's blade directly into the other woman's knees, "I like it a lot."

Candace groaned. "Hours. I kept ripping the that thing off but there was always another one underneath! It was insane!" That entire mission was insane, but she didn't want to get into it. Instead she smirked at the new compliment. "I won't always be able to rely on my weapon, right?" Plus she was getting tired.

The blade came at her again and she grunted as it hit her, somehow managing to fall over it and land on the other side. Ow! Owowow! Owwwwww! She wasn't feeling so hot right now...but..she'd promised she wouldn't go down without a fight! Clarice wanted to work off her frustration? Candace was here to help!

She didn't bother getting up this time. Instead Candace kicked her leg, using the talon on her heel to hit Clarice this time.

For a moment, Clarice considered letting the downed trainee off the hook. A very brief moment, right before the final adrenaline fueled ******** kick. She gave the girl a small, swift return kick to the ribs before desummoning Hraegar and straddling the barely hanging on Candace. She leaned forward to stare down at her for a quiet moment, smiling fondly. "You know...I had the high score on my test as well. Can't even blame it on some a*****e giving me his overpowered weapon. And you know what else? I liked it." The assistant continued smiling, but her eyes grew steadily more and more bleak as she talked. She gently brushed a strand of hair off Candace's cheek, "The thought of continuing this, until you're just another precious, broken thing in a very long line of precious, broken things...I like that too."

She wanted to take something from someone else. To have an enemy that was both manageable, mortal, and within reach. And this was...this was...she took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Opening them again, she looked down at the woman beneath her, actually looked and saw...Candace ******** Pennington. Who never actually wronged Clarice in any particular way and was, in her own misguided way, trying to help. And get her whiskey. But also help. "********. ********. No...no I don't. s**t, sorry."

The swift kick had her rolling from her stomach to her back, hissing with pain and putting a hand there. Okay, that hurt more than almost everything else. It didn't feel like a broken rib, thankfully. But even despite the pain she looked up at Clarice and watched her stand over her and straddle her, raising a brow. She was tired, and was in pain, and she didn't actually mind for once. Not even when she spoke, as if she was trying to anger her or mock her. She snorted, putting a hand on the side that had been struck by Raeg's blade. It was still bleeding? Lovely. "I really wish people would stop bringing that up. I already know it was a huge mistake. And I have been trying to put it behind me." Clarice reached down and Candace actually thought the woman was going to hit her, flinching until she realized all she was doing was touching her hair. She swallowed and watched her hand like a hawk, just because Clarice was being somewhat nice yet really...creepy did not mean she wouldn't do something stupid like punch her in the face. She rather liked her face, thanks. She also liked her knees.

A thought that this was a new reason to get Dr. H to touch her legs again fluttered through her mind and she actually considered it. No, no. She'd used the balm herself first and then she'd go back. Or maybe she'd just go straight to the infirmary because...hey...she was bleeding quite a bit! That might need some medical attention! Though she was now very curious...did...did this have to do with Ben? The last time she'd seen Clarice she'd been talking to his headstone. "Are you sure? It doesn't look like it." Candace chuckled.

Suddenly Clarice was apologizing and Candace smiled, shrugging and grinning up at the blonde. "It's fine. I'm not angry. I knew I was going to get my a** kicked from the very start, but I think I did pretty well all things considered, right?" She was being sincere. She really had offered this fight strictly for Clarice to have some kind of outlet instead of bottling up her frustration. "And you feel better now, right? You looked like you were having fun too."

Candace sighed and her eyes closed a moment before she opened them quickly. Haha! Head injury. Noooo sleeping. Whoopsie! "That was fun, actually! I almost forgot how much I love fighting with Atropos...but now I'm feeling kiiiinda woozy. I think I need to see a doctor." She paused and reconsidered that option just a little. "A doctor who'll focus on tending to my wounds and not my 'ripe young body', would be preferred. Can you help me up?"

The blonde gave a small, slightly painful smile back, "I just hate not being the one in control anymore...or ever, really. Yeah, I'm feeling slightly less..." she trailed off and looked in the other direction, slightly less homicidal was the phrase that came to mind, but she finished with a lame, "...frustrated, now. Thanks." She got up, off the other woman, and then leaned down to help her up, taking most of the weight off the trainee's battered knees.

"You did do well though. That kind of consistent, continuous attack is on par with most Sun Hunters." Biting her lip just slightly, she seemed to consider something, "I think that merits a bit of a reward. How 'bout, once you're all patched up by the Infirmary's McDreamy, we split the rest of that decanter?"
PostPosted: Wed Nov 30, 2011 11:40 am

Candace chuckled and nodded. "It's okay, I understand. And you're welcome." Like she said she'd enjoyed herself! But the fight was over now and the pains were really starting to settle in. It was not a good feeling in the slightest. So when Clarice offered her help up and even assisted her in standing without putting much weight on her knees it was very much appreciated. Atropos desummoned herself, glowing as rings on Candace's fingers again.

The praise was also appreciated and it showed as she clung to Clarice and grinned. Hunters, not just trainees? On par with them? Her? Really? There was a swell of pride in her chest. She did well. "Thank you, Clarice. You have no idea how much it means to me to hear someone say that." Especially someone who was more experienced than her and not just someone who was her friend. And someone who wanted to find out what made her tremble ********>. Candace sniffed and clung tighter to Clarice. "A reward?" She perked up a little, curious what this reward was going to be. Candace gave a snort at the McDreamy comment. Oh, cute. Wait! Really?! She looked very surprised. "Really? Ah..sure! That sounds great, actually. Now just show me to Doctor McDreamy and we'll get right on that~." She paused a moment, remembering something now that Clarice had mentioned 'patched up'. Her coat! She released the woman to limp away for a second to grab it off the ground. It was dirt from being tossed on the ground but she could wash it. She limped back to Clarice, wincing at the pain in her knees. Ow. ********. And her head was swimming. Yay. "Okay, now I'm ready. Let's go."

Watching the other woman hobble about, leaking, Clarice gave a small grimace. "Ok so, just so you don't get the wrong idea? I am totally not my boss, so I'm going to carry you the rest of the way because that's just sad, not because I want an excuse to get handsy with you, got it?" Carefully, she knelt down, and brought up the other woman in a princess carry.

"Don't worry, I've never dropped a princess in the Mist Tower." Impaled? Yeah. Used as a shield? Often. Fed to giant hawk? Once. Dropped? Never. Clarice was a ******** pro, and her princess was always in the damn castle.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 30, 2011 3:41 pm

The wrong...idea? Candace blinked. Yes, she was quite aware Clarice was not her boss. She often seemed exasperated by the man, or just was not amused by his antics. It was very clear Clarice was nothing like the doctor.

Oh. That was why. "Would he seriously...nevermind, stupid question. Thank you, Clarice." Candace felt rather embarrassed that she needed to be carried like this, putting her arms around Clarice's neck to keep herself up. This was way better. Her legs hurt way more now than they had when she'd seen H. ********. Ow. Did it have to be her knees?!

At the reassurance Candace laughed. "I'll have to give that tower a try sometime. I hear it's really challenging." She hummed as they walked, resisting the urge to idly swing her legs; thankfully the pain was enough to help her make that decision.

"...Is he really McDreamy?" She suddenly asked, raising a brow. What? Don't judge her. She was really pent up lately. The fighting just now helped though. A little.

"The tower is nothing less than an adventure," Clarice assured the younger woman, adjusted her grip slightly. "Gotta say, it's funner when you can rope a few friends into it, too. And the princesses," she sighed fondly, "the princess are just plain good times. Of course it was slightly horrific when I got an H one, and he started singing Kiss the Girl." The assistant looked mildly nauseous. And not just because he was in a poofy pink dress and still managing to leer. No, it was because the real one had recently suggested she do something along those same lines with the moon assistant, Julie. Something about the poor girl having to solo all the time. Thus the fed to giant hawk incident.

Clarice's smile grew into a bit of a smirk, "Oh yeah, he's pretty much...the most perfectly formed man I have ever seen. He's also doctor McHomosexual though, so if you put hands in bad places, you'll not only have a lot of female hunters gunning for you, but also a large number of male ones as well." She finished this last quietly, as they entered the infirmary and zeroed in on the subject of conversation. "Hey, Stephen? Kinda went overboard on a trainee, can you give her a little TLC?"

Doctor McDreamy smiled, flashing perfect teeth and a boyish dimple, hazel eyes giving the two a professional once over. "Brave girl, to be taking on that big old sword," he complimented Candace in a soft southern drawl. "Just set her down in examination 2, gently now. We'll get you back up and kicking in no time."
PostPosted: Mon Dec 05, 2011 1:18 am

An adventure, huh? Candace liked adventure. Maybe she'd get Harrison and Jerry to go with her; they seemed to work well together in fights. But at the talk of princesses she seemed to perk up with interest, especially when Clarice seemed fond of them. Good times, huh? Wait...waitwaitwait.

Did she just say H was a princess?

She totally did! Ahahahaha! Candace snorted and tipped her head back as she laughed, snorting at the mental image of that man in a poofy pink dress singing Kiss the Girl. Oh god she had to stop or she'd never be able to look at him the same way again! Haha! But oh man did she ever want to try that tower now. She totally wanted that tower. She would conquer it.

Candace calmed down as Clarice went on to explain 'Doctor McDreamy' was indeed as dreamy as his nickname, though her smile fell a little when informed he was gay. Damn. Oh well. Stephen, huh? She turned her head to search for him and was not disappointed. Okay well yes she was because he was gay but he certainly was a delightful sight. She grinned when called brave. "I like to think I'm pretty awesome, yeah. Clarice doesn't scare me~." Oh god. Oh god. His accent. Oh god. Nonono. She couldn't be around a southerner her own accent, the accent she worked so hard to hide, would come out! Agh! She cleared her throat. "Ha! Kickin'. Nice. I see what y'did th--what you did there. Nice to meet you, Stephen. I'm Candace." Since coming to the island the only doctor she'd been to was H so...being treated by someone not trying to bang her would be a refreshing change of pace.

His smile widened and he gave a wink, "Can't pull anything past you. Now then, sweetpea, this is gonna sting like a b***h, but nothin' you can't handle." With little ado he poured a fair amount of disinfectant directly over her knees and injured arm, and then began carefully swabbing the areas where skin broke. "Prolly won't have any scaring, and we'll get this healed up right quickly, but it's always a bad idea to let a wound heal dirty, even with the hocus pocus business. Clarice."

The blonde rolled her eyes, "Yeah, fine, I'll go get cleaned up. Back in a few, Candace, and remember what I said."

The doctor quirked an eye her retreating figure, "The more experienced the hunter, the more invincible they pretend to be." He turned his attention fully back to the trainee, "Now, your pupils are lookin' a bit dilated. You get a good one in the head?"
