It may have seemed like a game for Mafa, however this was no game for the small juvenile mad-dashing for cover in the cavern. He had managed to get a decent head start-- prolonging the time in which it would take the hyena to catch up. However this time wasn't long-lived. It actually only took seconds before the beast had found her way just steps behind, considering that her running strides equalled perhaps two or three of Runai's.

Unfortunately, Mafa was faster, larger, and most likely used to chasing and hunting things down within a matter of moments. Rune on the other hand.. not so much credability was on his side.

Rune was panting now, adrenaline and fear driving his figure towards the opening of the cave. Panick flooded his system as a quick glance was taken over his shoulder, realizing that Mafa had rather quickly caught up, and was now sprinting directly behind him. The next second she'd lunged, mouth open.. Rune hadn't cared about the rest of her. It was the teeth he was worried about, like any sensable lion.

Eyes couldn't help but widen in a second panick phase, attempting to urge his short, stubby limbs to move quicker, though the action seemed futile, his full speed having already been breached. Even this wasn't all that fast..

Rune sidestepped and lunged also, making last minute try at dodging those teeth.. if he could dodge.. maybe he could make it..

No luck. A loud, indescribable howl of pain was issued, the center of his left leg caught by those teeth rather suddenly, stopping and jerking the paint-splashed male back in an instant and slamming him into the ground with another sharp, spikey bit of pain. Aches were shot up his forelimb and into his chest, seemingly numbing him all together in one move. The most he'd ever felt was maybe tripping on a bone and falling over.. but this..

Jaw was clamped shut, keeping the yelping and small whimpers to an absolute minimum before he attempted to speak. "Get.. off of me!" He growled, moving his voice to a firm yell. Not like he could do anything if she didn't.. and even if she did he couldn't go anywhere. He felt sure that even if she'd let go he wouldn't be capable of really walking at all.. so what would the point be..?

This cub was quick, she hadn't expected it, and when he attempted to dodge her lunge, she had been sure that she had missed. But alas, her savage attack hit home. The sickle taste and smell of lion blood was released into Mafa's mouth as she chomped down on this young lion. She felt elated at the taste, the taste of victory. The female's eyes came alive in a savage fury and a grin arose on her still clamped down mouth. The lion had fallen, and she had gone down with him, her own momentum had slammed her into the ground, leaving her with a few minor scratches from the pebbles and bones, but it bothered her none.

The monster stood quickly, the limp forearm of the lion in her mouth. For a moment, she considered biting through the soft bone and eating it right there, but for some reason, she didn't. The lion struggled, and she opened her mouth, letting the leg drop down to the ground. Droplets of the lion's blood dribbled down from her mouth and onto the fur on her chest. This, this is what she lived for, to see the lions in this kind of pain. The alpha stood back a little, admiring her little catch, a crazed look in her usually blank eyes,

"Now now, that was fun. I'm sorry, I lied, I haven't eaten your brother, haven't layed eyes on the beast, but you, I suppose you will taste just like he would've, don't you think boy-o?"

Rune was consequently lifted off the ground as Mafa stood, his leg still held tight in her mouth. He gave another squeak of pain as he was drug upward by his paining limb, and yet another as he was dropped into a sprawled position. One eye was slammed shut at this point, the other sleeked down to a slit as far as squinting went. He stared with agony at his left foreleg.. mind working quickly as thoughts spun. Finally he glanced upward, his own inky black eyes staring back at that crazed looking figure. What was she up to..?

Anger mixed with the antagonizing pain as he listened, his face twisting with frustration and hate. However he disregarded her statement. He wouldn't argue with his brother being safe. With a sudden surge of effort, Rune managed to pull himself to all fours.. always a better way to go. Although the majority of his weight would noticably be put on the remaining three, which were in rather good health compared to the left front.

"So. What're you going to do with me..?" He mumbled, jaw only opening a small amount in order to allow speech. "If you're going to kill me then get on with it." He stated bluntly, ears folding back with irritation. Perhaps while she contemplated he could at least try to reach the cave..? No.. he'd never get there in time before Mafa decided to take a bite out of maybe his other leg.

Mafa watched silently at the lion stood, it was a resiliant one, but this didn't bother her none, she made no further move toward it. The female licked her chops contently, her mind reeling with thoughts. She wasn't sure what to do with herself, she was too excited. She wished little Rasuli was here, so he could witness the way she ended this pitiful creature's life, maybe she'd let him help. But alas, the pup was no where in sight, a rather unfortunate set back in the plan she was creating in her head. To answer the lion's comment, she shrugged,

"Hmm? Well, kill you of course, feast off of your flesh, how does that sound?"

Mafa's lips peeled back, exposing a smile that consisted of yellow, and lethal fangs. She was being merciful though, she hadn't killed him yet, it showed her kindness. Or so she thought.

"Your little parents would be heart broken, what a lovely thought!"

Rune fought the urge to begin shaking and shivering-- the idea of being feasted upon, probably while still alive, didn't exactly rub off as appealing to the youngling. However the pained expression of fear eventually made it's way into his facial expression, a small amount, but still.

"Sounds brilliant," He answered back, brows furrowing. sarcasm dripping from his tone. "And I doubt they'd care. I don't care if they care," He snerked. Truth be told he wasn't all that fond of either of his parents.. or his siblings. Ever since he could remember he'd always been different from his family members.. he thought differently, acted differently. He pushed the boundaries, testing how far he could go. His siblings, especially Toshiro, had found this exceptionally foolish. The idea that his brothers and sisters were all 'accidents' didn't help the situation much, either, considering that it had fueled a small flame of hatred and resentment towards his kin, despite his feelings of obligation to watch his older brother.

"So killing me wouldn't really do much, if your motive is to upset someone," He continued, taking a slow, wobbly step towards the cavern opening once again, curiousity still edging behind his other thoughts as to what exactly was back there. Blood had gathered in his fur around the wound on his foreleg now, and as he had stood in place the red substance had even begun to form a small puddle on the ground as it trickled off his paw. He would wait until he could let his guard down in order to wash that off, despite the urge to stop and fix the problem now.

Mafa scoffed at the lion's words. Lions were pitiful creatures, they didn't care for their own kind it seemed. Mafa had been devastated when her family had been murdered, she'd be devastated if someone did anything to her family now... If she had one. Perhaps that was the reason why Mafa had never even thought about having any offspring of her own, she didn't want to lose them, as her mother had lost her.

The monster shook her head, clearing her gloomy thoughts and put her mind back onto her prey. His next comment earned a forced and haughty chuckle,

"I wish not to upset anyone, only to bring pleasure to myself"

And nothing would be better than the meat of a young lion. She already had a taste for his blood. Like a shark that had smelled blood in the water, she wasn't about to let this bleeding number go. Once again she noticed that the youngster was edging his way toward the cavern in which the geisers where. What was it about that place that just interested everyone? She wasn't sure, but she liked it.

"I wouldn't go in there, it's hot, and I don't like my meat cooked"

Rune disregarded the hyenas silence and laughter, along with several of her comments as he took several more painful, effort-draining steps towards the cave entrence. He was going to see what was back there, and if Mafa didn't like him moving in that direction then there was bound to be something to hide beyond that passageway... or so he thought, anyway.

His hobbled steps were taken as giant limps, having never been exposed to pain such as this. It didn't occur to him immediately that Mafa could easily cause him so much more agony, and if it had he probably would've gone home after the first warning growl she'd given.

"You don't like meat cooked..? Too bad.." He began, eyes narrowed and rather focused on the cave. "I have the feeling that if you were going to kill me you would've already done it," He stated blankly, though firmly, as the crippled juvenile continued to climb towards the hyenas lair.

Mafa slowly followed Rune as he moved toward the cavern, she wasn't really protecting anything, just boundries. The cavern was nothing too pleasant, it was humid, stinky, and rather crammed for those suffering claustrophobia, but Mafa liked it there. Mafa's gait paused for a moment, her eyes carefully following the lion. She felt power over him, he was so weak, such an easy target, she felt rather elated in such a position.

"Please, I'll kill you went I wish, perhaps you'll bleed out before I decide to kill you, it'll hurt more"

The female rounded off her comment with a vile smile, eyes still following the lion. He was so determined to get in there, and his determination angered her, he should be cowering before her, begging for his pitiful life, not walking around like nothing had happened. Without warning, Mafa lashed out once again, she razor like teeth whipping out toward Rune, hoping to catch him by something and toss him away from the cavern, or maybe just to scare him away.

Rune hobbled up a few more steps before taking a bit of a break, taking a mild, unnoticable glance towards that left leg of his and wincing inwardly at the thought of anything possibly worse than that. However his thoughts were averted, distracted by Mafa's next words momentarily.

"I would think I'd be more use to you alive," He stated loudly, again taking several more crippled hops toward the opening. "I mean.. y'could abuse, train, persuade, threaten.. so much better than dead. Where y'just toss the carcass away like some eaten old rat," Rune stated, shaking his head. Moving to take another step, he suddenly found that he couldn't, much like last time. Before perhaps even ten seconds hit, a loud yelp was given, eyes and jaw both slamming shut once again.

Before he could get a decent bearing on the situation, a second searing pain surged through his body, although now this one originating from the lower area of his back-- one of the closest things that Mafa could get her teeth on. He shouldn't have moved or turned his back on her.. never a wise decision. Or perhaps he was just too slow to really get away from this foxy and cunning hyena.

(( Mmmn. Something interesting needs to happen, D: ))

Mafa shook her head violently, her teeth still wedged in Rune's flank. She came away with a small piece of the lion's flesh and skin, which she aptly swallowed without chewing. To her dissapointment, she hadn't hit anything that would harm his life immediately, no bones, no organs, just a flesh wound. A tasty one at that. She prowled toward him, fine, if he wanted to go in there, he could, but he'd be cornered in that cave and at her mercy,

"Sure you would, but it'd give me no satisfaction to let you live"

Mafa flashed him a grim smile, showing off her blood stained fangs. Perhaps she would leave it alive, the lions would have to come reclaim their own wouldn't they? This little rat could proove to be an excellent bargining tool. Mafa grinned to herself, yes, one less lion to inherit the throne to those mongrels, the better.

Rune couldn't help but whimper while being shook in a violent back and forth motion, eventually finding himself flying off to the right once being released, emitting another howl of pain. With a loud thud, the juvenile collided with the sharp, rocky ground, adding to his already bruised and battered figure. Blood had already begun to flow freely from the fresh wound on his flank -- probably tempting Mafa even further to rid this lion of his life.

He had begun to rethink the situation as he lay curled in the dust and bits of rock. Perhaps he should've gone home while he'd had the chance.. there'd be no way he'd make it past Mafa now unless she were sleeping or distracted .. 'Damn.. now what'm I gonna do..' He thought in the back of his mind, tossing and turning several ideas. Rune couldn't walk terribly fast.. let alone try and make a dart for it. It'd only cause more pain, not to mention the flesh wound on his flank would only bleed more.

Mind reeled, searching in a split second for answers, despite that hardly any came. Maybe..

The painted male slowly managed to hoist himself upward, again using up a large amount of effort to do so. Tail drug limply, as did Rune, towards where Mafa stood. Eyes were squinted, teeth gritted with his jaw clamped shut. A strained look of focus was plastered across the younglings face as he hobbled, attempting to keep from panting and whining too much until out of Mafa's view point. He'd try to walk by her. He almost doubted that she wouldn't allow it, however where else would he go..? The cave..? She'd just lock him in there like a caged rat, probably beat up on him a bit more. Yes. He'd try to walk off first, he reckoned, before adding a simple, stern, "I'm leaving.", and afterwards taking little to no hesitation to bolt (as best he could).
