Ten'nyo listened intently as Chiyaki began to speak, and indicated that they were to begin learning the basics straight away. That pleased Ten'nyo as she did not want to sit through some boring series of classroom lectures before learning any real ninja stuff. It was a good thing that she had quick reflexes for Chiyaki gave warning before throwing a scroll at each of the students. "In the scroll I threw are handseals. You are required to learn each one. I'll explain them in detail when you all finish. For right now, get started." With that goal clear and the okay to start Ten'nyo went straight to it. Her hands quickly opened the scroll with excitement. As a child she often overheard that the hand seals were the gateway to all of the worlds ninjutsu techniques. Inside the scroll there were pictures and instructions for forming all twelve of the hand seals. Paying no mind to the scolding of Hosho she began to read over the scroll. First up was the Bird hand seal, Ten'nyo copied the picture, making her thumbs cross, index fingers cross, and finally having the rest of her fingers touch their opposites tip. She nailed it on the first go. Next up was the Boar hand seal; a much easier hand seal but somewhat more uncomfortable one. After making a fist with each hand she pointed her knuckles down and to the outside before bringing them together.

With the first five hand seals down and only seven remaining it was time for Ten'nyo to move on to the Horse hand seal. As she studied the scroll Ten'nyo realized that this one was not that complicated but it looked extremely uncomfortable. The Horse hand seal was formed by touching the index fingers together and interlocking the other fingers while they were folded inward. Who ever came up with these things had to have had really tough hands. she thought to herself silently. Now was not the time for shying away from her objective though she had to attempt the hand seal. With almost no meat to her hands Ten'nyo could easily feel the bones in her finger joints rubbing together. The sensation of that rubbing freaked her out and caused her to break the seal before she had even had a chance to check if she had done it correctly. Greaaaaaate, now I have to do it again.... She was definitely not pleased with herself. Having easily learned the first five she was now being stopped by her own lack of will. That bothered greatly as something so easy should be simple for a shinobi. I bet this won't bother the guys... buck up Ten'nyo you have to do this.

Kanjo had heard the objective and began working on it immediately. He placed the open scroll on the ground and sat Indian style in front of it. Studying the scroll carefully, he visualized how the sign would look when he did it himself. He knew that this topic was one of the most important topics that a ninja must learn, if he ever wanted to be a true ninja. Kanjo closed his eyes for a bit and envisioned his whole body, his hands doing the signs he had just studied. After a while, he opened his eyes and saw that the Sanda girl had already done about 5 signs. Being inspired by this, he slowly did the signs exactly how it was on the paper. First, he made the Tori sign. It seemed that this sign was one of the hardest to perform and it took him a while to get is exactly right. Then, he made the boar sign which was easier than the Tori sign but still a bit challenging. Maybe he could get through this lesson, yet.

Next was the horse sign. This one was also fairly easy. Slowly, he joined his knuckles together. Good, next he raised his index fingers to full length and made them touch at the end. He then imitated the way the thumbs curved in the picture and, voila, he did the horse sign. Then, the Ox sign was next. For some reason, the Ox sign looked the most interesting out of them all. Carefully, he imitated the image on the scroll. It took a little while to interlock his hands just right for the sign but eventually, he got it.

With the knowledge that she must complete her goal no matter the discomfort Ten'nyo willed her hands to come together again. Despite the discomfort that she felt while forming the horse hand seal the young girl ignored it and forced her hand into the proper configuration. When she was finished Ten'nyo looked down to see if her hands matched the picture and description. Phew! she thought with a sigh of relief as her hands almost immediately broke apart. With the horse now finished she was able to move onto teaching herself the ox hand seal. Once more the hand seal did not appear to be too difficult to form but it did appear that it would still create some level of discomfort for the girl. Ten'nyo studied the picture and description so that she would be able to complete it quickly and easily. After bringing her open palms together at a ninety degree angle she then interlaced her fingers based on the image contained on the scroll. After a quick comparison to the scroll for the sake of assurance Ten'nyo dropped her hands after confirming that she had matched the seal.

With a clear mental picture created in her mind Ten'nyo went ahead with her attempt at the rat hand seal. Her lips stretched into a smile as she confirmed that she had matched the rat seal. Only two left now. she thought to herself. With number ten having just been learned it almost time to complete the lesson. The next seal on the list was number eleven, the snake hand seal. The snake appeared to be somewhat trickier as it was composed on many interlaced fingers but after reading the description and studying the pictures Ten'nyo was certain that she knew what to do. Without much effort of her part she was able to easily match the snake hand seal and move on to the twelfth and final hand seal. At last she was almost done as only the tiger hand seal remained. The tiger hand seals was quite easy to match as it was very similar to the ram hand seal. After making a slight adjustment Ten'nyo was able to match the tiger hand seal. bird, boar, dog, dragon, ox, tiger, serpent, rat, horse, monkey, hare, ram! she said to herself as she quickly formed all twelve hand seals in sequence. Upon the successful rehash of all twelve hand seals Ten'nyo announced that she was done.
