She closed her eyes, not being able to bare to watch the final blow as the lucario prepared the final strike. "I-I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!" she cried, a tear trickling down her face. She knew the most that happened was that the pokemon would faint, but she still felt terrible. If only she was a better trainer, if only she knew how to battle more! If only...
... why wasn't there any sound?
She peeked between her fingers to see that the paralysis had finally kicked in, and the lucario stood frozen before the trembling joltik, the glow of the attack dissipating. This was their chance!
"Quick Joltik! Hit him with a bug bite!"
... Goodbye cruel world, goodbye, pointy jagged sharp rocks, goodbye, somewhat-pissed-looking-lucario-about-to-maul-me-with-an-aura-sphere...
The Joltik curled into a ball, awaiting the final attack, but as seconds turned to what felt like an eternity, nothing happened. Joltik lifted an arm and peeked out, only to see a lucario struggling to move. He then heard the trainer call out, and quickly scrambled to his feet, and latched onto the lucario's nose.

Genesis pressed her lips together when she saw the paralysis work. Then, she called, "Keep trying!"
Erebos froze, and the Aura Sphere died on his lips before it could even leave a mark. He growled, straining against his muscles, willing them to calm. In the meanwhile, the Joltik approached him, biting him with small fangs that were easy to shake off. Mouth glowing once more, he tried Aura Sphere again.

His luck ran out, and as the aura sphere made contact, it knocked joltik out cold as it flew back and smashed against a rock, the propulsion increased from having the attack at such a close range.

There wasn't anything she could do. The battle was over. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't disappointed. As the platform lowered, signalling the end of the battle, she quickly rushed onto the field and cradled the joltik in her arms. "You did good, little guy. Sorry I wasn't a better trainer..." she smiled and wiped away a stray tear.
Still carrying the joltik, she walked over to the other trainer and extended a hand. "That was a good match. You're really strong! And Lucario too!" she turned and smiled at Erebos. Even though she lost, it was a good experience for her. Who knew, maybe she'd actually win next time!

"Thanks," Genesis replied, approaching the center of the field as Erebos trotted to her side, a friendly smile on her face. She shook the proffered hand, returning the compliment, and dismissed herself with a, "Well, we better get going to the center now. Thanks again for the battle!"
