HO HO HO!
You're speaking to a former exchange student.
cool
I spent three months in Japan during the summer of my junior year. It was the best experience of my life.
No rly.
If you have the opportunity to do it, TAKE IT. being an exchange student is a great thing, it opens your eyes to other cultures and it gives you a new found sense of independence.
If you really want to go for a challenge, take somewhere like Japan and run with it. Just study the language for a basic understanding of it. Hell, I'd be willing to teach you it. mrgreen But try to stay away from the big cities with nothing but tourists you'll get screwed out of the culture if you go that way. Stay sub-urban but definately not rural.
GO FOR IT!
And if you get homesick at all, kick yourself and get over it. It goes by a lot faster than you think and you'll regret it if you don't soak up every moment of it!
I'm currently looking into going to the Kyoto school of Language for a full year to get my masters in Japanese and to get minors in Chinese, Russian, and Arabic.
I'm so excited. 4laugh

If it was a summer thing, I would SO go to Japan.
But it's for a semester. Which means I need to go to school. Which means I need to take classes in Japanese, which I know all of 10 words in.
cry heart heart
P.S. I'd exchange anywhere in the Summer. Language and culture and travelling excites me. wink
