********* smiled as she continued to groom the other cat. She still hadn't lost her touch, which was nice to know now that Sheldon was purring. He still seemed quite filled with criticisms though, not seeming quite content with her responses. "It's more of an answer than you think..." she managed to get out between licks. Of course, the answer was a sort of lie too, but he didn't need to know that.
The mention of her investigations managed to get her to cease her work with his fur. To the point where she got off from his back and padded back to a spot immediately in front of him. "There we go... Mr. Grumpy Kitty!" For a moment, she seemed to admire her handiwork with her grooming, but then gave him a pretty straight up answer.
"I am investigating to see how many people were affected by this cat epidemic... you aren't the only one, Sheldon." She playfully added "All you fake kitties make it hard for me to beg for food you know! More people calling animal control thanks to the sudden increase in stray cats!"

Even as the purring sold him out, Sheldon was really glad the female cat was done. There was no telling what he would have done if she had insisted on a full body washing or something, talk about extreme awkwardness. There was still a soft rumbling in his chest as he continued to lay on the ground as ********* moved off him, which finally gave him a chance to rest his chin upon his front paws.
"I would have preferred straighter answers," Sheldon replied with disappointment. His brain worked rather well, but not in these situations where he had to do some guess work and figure out the underneath of the underneath. "But that's at least one." So there were more like him, that was comforting and unsettling at the same time.
"Any leads?" He asked, more to see if there were. Not like he could offer any information or anything, "how come they're all strays? Wouldn't their families be helping them?" That did strike him as odd.

Logic would come into play now. "Unless all of them have collars with tags and the what-not... I'd believe they'd be considered strays according to the law. I am technically a stray too." Many people seemed to assume she had an owner just because she wore a bell collar, but she really didn't have a specific place to call home. The city was her home.
"I wouldn't be surprised if some people were trying to hide from their families what happened... I mean, what sort of explanation can you give that would make sense? Some people are more understanding than others... so some families would accept it without any problems, but others might grow hysterical. I can only imagine that some of the other people-turned-cat are possibly out trying to figure out why they are the way they are right now."
There was a pause before she added "Well, I am researching more the number of people affected by this cat... thingy." She then padded away slightly, as if she was anxious to get moving.
"Hey... I think I might know a good place for you to hang out... I'll see if I can even get you a bit of catnip for your efforts!" Knowing the boy, that probably would appeal to him.

Sheldon lifted his head a little to eye her collar for a moment when she stated her status as 'stray.' He had to wonder how that could be possible, someone had to put something like that on her, wouldn't they? Unless they had abandoned her, though the green bo.... cat didn't really want to consider something that heartless happening.
"Couldn't everything else that's been happening to this city be explanation enough?" Comas, weird dreams, missing people. SENSHI. Even though turning into a cat would be a bit of a stretch, it didn't seem as unplausible as magical short skirted individuals that ran around the city after people who took star seeds and whatnot.
Sheldon was about to ask her about the numbers she had found when she began to retreat from the alley. Was she just going to up and leave now? He just stared at her confused and more so when she proposed he follow her. Just like before he hesitated until he picked himself up and made his way slowly to her. "Catnip?" He asked about instead, "how is that going to help?" He wasn't dumb, he knew how catnip worked on cats but he was still a human at heart.

"Catnip is the closest you are going to get to cigarettes while you are like this, Sheldon." This most certainly was the truth, since not many people would light up for a cat to smoke a cigarette. "Unless you want me to find a cat-whisperer and have them shave a spot on your belly and place a nicotine patch there... I mean, I can try to find a cat whisperer... but somehow I don't think that would be wise."
With that, the cat moved forward again until she was at the mouth of the alleyway. Once more she paused in step and stated "That's the offer, take it or leave it!" With that, the manx proceeded to start trotting along.
If he was going to follow her, she was going to have to chat with Ellie before he got to see her. The wheels in her Mauvian mind were already turning and she had every intention of maintaining the fact that she was "not able to talk to people" if she could manage such.

Grumpy Sheldon returned in full force. ********* was right, his sister was proof enough and he really didn't want a nicotine patch placed onto this small of a body. Well, he didn't want one as a human either, things were nasty and didn't work for him.
It was at least an offer of someplace to go aside from wandering around before he headed home. Home was always the best option and he actually kind of did want to see how catnip would effect him now that he was a cat. "Fine," he sighed and followed.
