"If you don't think fight or die is a good reason to fight, I really don't know what is." Laoise was starting to bristle again. In all honesty, she'd preferred the curled up bundle of self-doubt much more than this childish pique, the accusatory mouthiness the girl flung at her now. The tip of her tail set to twisting again.

"If I hadn't handed you your weapons, what would you have done? Run? It would have caught up with you -- humans are slow." There was scorn in her tone, dismissive, probably meaner than she had to be. Well. That was how Laoise was. That was, in fact, frequently how cats were, wasn't it?

"The youma always catch up. It would have eaten you, maybe, or perhaps just ripped you apart. Surely you've seen the reports."

Of course Micah had seen the reports. Still, the fact that she was being beaten in all of her arguments was making her angry. The fact that she was being beaten by a cat only made it worse. Micah grit her teeth together and clenched her fists, forcing her to stand, knees weak and shaking. "At least," she ground out, "I would have died knowing what I was." Finally standing again.

"Fight or die is not a reason. It's an ultimatum. Given that choice of course I will fight. But only when I have to and only as a late resort and only for myself. If that's the ultimatum you're giving me I intend to be as selfish as possible with these... weapons." Micah reached into the dumpster as she finished, retrieving the tiara from it's depths. Micah hadn't noticed before how light it was. She looked at the purple stone, feeling it's roughness on her fingers. She rubbed one of it's facets, moving from that to the smooth contrast of the silver metal that circled it.

"I need a reason. Not a threat. Because that's what it sounds like. Fight for my side or I'll throw more monsters at you." Micah put the tiara back on her forehead, the coolness of it making her shiver lightly. "So far you have given me none and so I still refuse. You did this to me. You owe me that much. Tell me what I am. What I am fighting for?" Micah drew herself up. "Tell me or I swear it I will fight against you. Even if I am alone, if you don't give me a reason I will fight you."

"Your question doesn't make sense. Your premise doesn't make sense." It was Lee's turn to get shot through with annoyance. They were going in circles, perhaps due to fundamentally different cores: Laoise was a fighter. She considered herself, to some degree, a leader. The very idea of someone running and hiding when they had a duty to do made her blood boil.

"There are monsters out there, and they sure as hell aren't my monsters. I find it insulting and rude that you'd imply they were." Had Micah been a little more friendly, perhaps she'd have come down to discuss further. Not now. Now she sat from her high perch and glared down at the girl.

"They're chaos monsters. They're who you're fighting. What are you fighting for? Your fellow humans, unless you don't think they're worth defending, you mewling child." The insult, strangely, made her relax. She humphed, sitting back, smug.

If the insult fazed Micah she didn't show it. As it stood, her mind was reeling too horribly for her to notice it. Her premise? Her premise? Micah's mouth fell open in shock at the retort the cat gave her, temper reaching a point where Micah could grab onto it and throw it up over her head. And she did. Knuckles white and teeth born Micah roared again, not entirely sure what to do with the rest of her body. For that reason her knees buckled and her arms curled up, fists pressing against the sides of her head. Of all the space cats, Micah had to get the one who was even less than unhelpful. Her core resigned it's duties holding her up and she fell forward, head hitting the pavement with an audible crack, but not really caring.

Again she cried. Fists hitting the pavement until they bled, Micah cried. She hated this. She hated this cat, she hated Acubens, she hated this whole stupid thing she'd been flung into.

"You're such a b***h," Micah cried, cheeks smeared with red where she'd wiped her bloody knuckles. "You made me into this, without giving me a choice. You made a child into a fighter without giving her the option not to fight." She slammed her fists into the pavement again and wailed, fingers cracking under the force of the unrestrained punch. She didn't care. She didn't care about anything at that moment. She didn't care that the cat saw her as a child. Didn't care that the cat probably didn't like her. She didn't care that she'd called the cat back in the first place. Later she'd cringe at the memory, at the infantile way she'd behaved. For now she just whimpered, "Go away."

There were no mothering instincts, here. No sorrow at making a child cry, no need to comfort and reassure. Lee sat on her step and instead fought the urge to roll her eyes. Not only was Acubens fighting against her, she was doing it without a purpose, without any kind of understanding, without logic behind her arguments.

At the insult, her eyes narrowed. At the demand that she leave, Laoise sniffed, finally did roll her eyes, and started her way up the steps. She had better things to do anyway, than fight with some stupid girl. She had birds to catch.

As she rounded up over the edge of the roof, out of sight, her voice drifted down. Her tone was absent and somewhat dismissive. "You can choose not to fight, Acubens. It just makes you a terrible person."
