"Well, it is momentous in a way-- but n..not that way!" Her cheeks flushed pink, catching his 'joke', and she hit out at him, as if to cover up the embarrassment. It barely even nicked him, though- a warning that she needed to focus more, and she stepped back daintily, readying herself to block his attack, and maybe sneak another hit in.

There had never been anyone other than Robert, for her- even if she didn't want to admit it, and there had never been anything between them.. if that answered Jordan's question. She didn't voice that out, though- there was no real need to get so touchy about a joke.

"So that's a charged attack... wow. It's almost like special effects in a movie! Except, for obvious reasons, cooler." If she had to describe what it felt like- it was probably something like winding up a spring; when you let it go, it hit you quickly- and hard, sort of like a snake striking.

"Bring it," she grinned, in response to his offer. She remembered the pain from the previous hit, and shuddered slightly, but she was curious nonetheless.

Reine's sudden flustered blush warned Jordan to ease off - that hadn't exactly been fair. Oops. Well, he'd apologize if she wanted him to. She seemed to be willing to drop it, though, and he followed suit.

"Actual magic, so much cooler than the faked kind," he agreed. Most of the time, anyway; he didn't feel like bringing the mood down by describing some of the nastier supernatural things he'd already seen. Instead, he angled Ferros further out from his body, readying his next swing. Ready for this?

The dragon's answer was an exultant roar and a blast of heat as Jordan spun, bringing the hammer around again; its head burst into a brilliant ball of flame with a whump of displaced air.

Both she and Alynthe screamed at the same time as the hammer swung their way; the apophis desummoning itself before the fire hit them, the two earrings clattering to the ground.

Reine, however, didn't manage to escape- the hammer knocked her off her feet, again, Ferros' fire almost enveloping her- this was worse than how pots felt like, when you tried lifting them with your bare hands after leaving them too long on the stove? At least you could let go- it felt like she was burning alive, practically.

Licked by tongues of flame- a little too intimate for comfort, really, and when it was over the small breeze felt chilling on her skin- surprisingly, there was no mark left- she'd expected to see burns all over. The pain, though, was far from phantom, and she could still feel the heat.

.. There was even a smoky smell... with a yelp, Reine batted at her jacket, putting out that last little bit of fire.

"G..good job," she managed, weakly. "I think you scared Alynthe..." and me, the girl thought, clutching her arms tenderly as she let herself fall to her knees, then somewhat absent-mindedly searched for her weapon.

come back, she cajoled, where are you, Ally!

fireeeeeee, the snake demon hissed unhappily. I don't quite approve of your.. cavorting with this fellow here.

we've just got to beat him, haven't we...? Finally she managed to locate them, shakily standing up and resummoning her weapon.

Stick with me, we can do this. It's just practice, after all... Going with Jordan's joke, he'd clearly opened her eyes up to a whole new world.... just one of pain, not pleasure.

Jordan studied Reine thoughtfully, not yet moving to attack again. Abruptly, he said, "You don't have to prove to me that you're tough, Reine. I already knew that."

He rested Ferros across his shoulder again. "I keep forgetting that we've had more time to get used to the idea. That this is what we do, and that a lot of the time it's going to involve pain. Once you've got through a few fights, you start to figure out that you can endure it and keep going, and you've got more than you know you do. Getting used to getting hurt, even dying - by way of golems - well, it never hurts any less, but it doesn't feel like it matters as much. And you start taking it more lightly, particularly when it's coming from one of your friends and colleagues." He smiled wryly. "Long-winded way of saying that I actually forgot how scary Ferros can be."

He looked to Alynthe, speaking to her weapon directly now. "Sorry about that. If it helps any, Ferros got pretty pissed when you hit us with ice."

Hey!

"What? It's true."

I have my pride, Ferros sniffed.

"And an ego on a scale with the rest of you, yes, I know."

D'aaaaaaaaaaaw. He might have just been saying it for encouragement, but Reine blushed when she heard it; he thought she was tough? The feeling of warmth that crept over her was distinctly different from Ferros' heat; for one, it didn't hurt.

"I'm sure I'll get used to it," she laughed. "I shouldn't be making any excuses, though- I mean, you already told me how it works, with that FEAR stuff and all, just.. ahahaha. Fire and ice. I didn't see that one coming."

Reine was recovering well enough; the shock from the hit had mostly worn off, and she was holding Alynthe up again, ready to strike.

better give that thing a nice beating, the apophis hissed sulkily.

"I don't think she's quite forgiven you yet... how about we finish this off? I feel like a bit of ice-cream, after all that heat."

Embarrassingly, she missed, the blade cutting through air again.

"All right. I'll take your word for it, then," Jordan said, and gave her that wicked grin again as her blade swung wide. "Go for it. Beat us up."

A quick turn and swing, and Ferros was coming at Reine fast again; it seemed that Jordan was indeed taking her seriously and not intending to go easy on her any more.

"Never gonna let you down," she grinned, even as Jordan swung Ferros at her again.

you start to figure out that you can endure it and keep going...

The hammer hit her hard, but she tried to remember what he'd said, wincing at the impact. Reine forced herself to keep on her feet, at least, and then, seeing an opening, she darted over and slashed at him again with Alynthe, before skipping back. She didn't say anything to him, but from the look in her eyes it was obvious; she wasn't backing down either.

The force of the sudden attack pushed Jordan back a step. "That's more like it," he said approvingly. "Don't let it distract you." She was faster than he, and Alynthe was considerably lighter than Ferros; if she was on her toes and taking the fight seriously, it was actually quite possible that she could take them down. That'd be a good confidence booster.

Still, he wasn't about to just give it to her. He swung lower this time; he wasn't about to get her in the head again, not after all the hits she'd already taken.

It caught her right in the side this time, and she felt, aside from the pain, something breaking- not a bone, luckily, it wasn't a sharp pain; was this the FEAR shield Jordan had been talking about?

Reine fell to one knee, wincing. Pulling back her jacket revealed a large bruise forming, and she was sure that if Jordan hit her again, and maybe harder than he had this time, she wouldn't be dealing with just a bruise.

But she didn't want to admit defeat, either. Struggling to stand, she held Alynthe out again, though her arm was trembling.

Seeing the bruise blooming rapidly on Reine's pale skin, Jordan lowered Ferros, this time letting the weapon return to his unsummoned form. "Did your shield go down?" he asked. He was pretty sure it had; bruises acquired through a Fear shield tended to manifest themselves slower and fainter. "I don't want to really hurt you. Remember, once it's down, you can be injured. We'd probably break bones, and that'd suck a lot."

"I think it did.." Her voice was strained, but when she saw Jordan desummoning Ferros, she did the same with Alynthe. Was it over?

"I've heard rumours about the doctor," Reine admitted. "I think I'd rather not break any bones, just in case.." Bruises would fade eventually, but fractures would have to get checked out, and she wasn't too keen on that.

Walking over, she offered him a hand, conceding her loss. "Thanks for the practice, though- I learned a lot today."

"Dr. H is astonishingly creepy," Jordan nodded. "I am not sending you off to the Life division with broken bones, even aside personal concerns." He shook her hand firmly, smiling at her. "You got pretty close to beating me," he said. "Ferros's shield would have been down in one or two hits. Maybe next time. Right?"

Reine grinned. "I'll count on you to keep me safe from him, then. And maybe next time, but I'd rather not, really." Ferros might have left a huge bruise on her side, but she shuddered at the thought of actually hurting Jordan- she didn't know if she could deal with seeing him injured and bleeding, especially not by her own hand

Shuffling her feet, she looked up at him shyly. "I'd really rather hurt something else, you know- like the monsters you mentioned before. I'm glad for the practice, though!"

"You did really well," Jordan said seriously. Then he chuckled and smiled at her. "You mentioned ice cream. The stuff in the cafeteria is a poor excuse, really, but let's go get some anyway."

She blushed again at his compliment, then immediately brightened up when he mentioned ice-cream; he'd remembered!

"I like cookies and cream," she admitted. "The only flavour I ever get- I hope they have that. It's your treat, 'kay?" Grinning, she skipped ahead of him, wincing slightly when her arm brushed against the bruise.

"Bet I can beat you to the cafeteria, at least."
