Bazza, in turn, winced as his ponyta was coated in electrified webbing - a x2 wince combo, if you will. "Try to get some distance, Aubergine!" he encouraged her, and she moved back, breaking the web's connection to its power source.
Eyes flashing, Aubergine crashed forward again, scattering garbage backs and trashcans, and flared her tail as she passed the joltik - another Ember attack in retaliation!

Jenk grimaced at the embers that were thrown at Joltik again. A default attack by the Ponyta, it seemed, but it was still damnably effective!
The joltik anticipated the embers and tried to dodge, but only succeeded in not becoming a crispy Joltik On A stick. Jenk's eyes narrowed. "Alright, Joltik! Thunderbolt, let's make this one count!"
Joltik squeezed its eyes shut, concentrating the charge of its attack, then unleashed the bolt at the Ponyta with a vindictive JOLTIII!

The shock passed through Aubergine in a fit of painful muscle spasms. She tossed her head, willing the tremors to stop, screaming defiance.
The situation was getting dire - even though Bazza and Aubergine has the elemental advantage, the battle was just about at a stalemate! Grimly, Bazza commanded, "Another Flame Wheel, Aubergine!"
With a determined air matching her master's, the ponyta wheeled around and charged, surrounding the joltik once more in fire.

Even Jenk winced at the power of the Joltik's thunderbolt. The frustration seemed to concentrate in the Joltik's need to win, or something. Still, her eyes widened at the sudden onslaught of the wheel of flames. Joltik shrunk into the center, trying to ride it out, but still managed to get a good burn before he escaped.
But he did escape, and Jenk was once more impressed by the little bug's need to survive. "Furry Cutter!" She called, watching as the spider ran at Ponyta with the determination of a pokemon twice its size and flailed wildly in an attempt to hit the Ponyta.

Aubergine winced and reared back as the joltik swiped and swatted her. This didn't hurt as much as the electric attacks, sure, but the bug was gonna pay either way!
The little critter had guts - Bazza would easily admit that. But it would not, could not win this battle - his pride and Aubergine's would not allow it. Firmly, he commanded his ponyta to use Stomp once more.
She suddenly dropped forward again while the joltik was still attacking, determined to pin it beneath her hooves.

This time, the Joltik managed to get struck by Aubergine's dancing hooves, letting out a pained screech before getting away from the ponyta. It shook the pain off, bared its fangs once again, and waited for the command.
He didn't wait long. Jenk called out the next command fluidly, eyes narrowing a fraction. It was close, and she did not want to lose. "Electroweb, Joltik!"
Joltik would have grinned if he could. Instead, once more, the Joltik shot webbing at the ponyta, currents running straight at the Ponyta with a shocking -- hee -- charge.

Aubergine reared again, pain coursing through her in time to the current. Without pausing to first halt the attack, Bazza yelled down, "Aubergine, Ember!" His goal and hers was now to end this as quickly as possible.
Not even bothering to shake the webbing off first, Aubergine pressed forward and flared up, burning the web and, ideally, the joltik, too!

Jenk's heart rose in her throat when she saw the embers latch onto the webbing, but Joltik's instincts were faster than hers. It broke off the web and skittered away from the flame, spinning around to face his opponent.
Recalling the previous attack, Jenk suddenly grinned. "Come on, Joltik, let's end this! Thunderbolt!"
Again, the Joltik focused its attention on the Ponyta, raising the charge as it rubbed its back legs together to generate more static. And then, the Thunderbolt was unleashed, lighting up the stadium as it headed for Aubergine.

Before Bazza had time to react, before the attack even had the time to connect, Aubergine charged forward, plowing right through the Thunderbolt (OW OW OW OW OW) and blasted the joltik with a white-hot flame wheel. Bazza was left gaping on the platform above.

Jenk's wide-eyed, open-mouth expression quite comically mimicked Bazza's as the Ponyta charged through the electric attack and struck the Joltik with a wheel of fire. The bug pokemon went down hard, and for a long minute, Jenk thought it was over.
Then, the spider began to rise slowly, practically trembling as the poor thing waited on another attack. Jenk nearly wanted to forfeit and call him back, but this was a battle. One or the other would win, and Jenk wanted that win.
"Alright, Joltik! Let's make this move count, yeah? Faint Attack!"
The Joltik moved forward, barely bothering to faint to the right before swinging at the left side of the Ponyta. Jenk clasped her hands together, watching with trepidation. Was this it?!
