"I'm not paranoid," he said defensively. "I worry just the right amount. Sometimes I think I worry a little less than I should. If I'd just been firm with Sonja and said no to that swamp..." he trailed off and finished quickly. "Well, we could have avoided that whole mess."
"Ok, Stalker - you ready?" Sonja asked her faithful cat companion. "And no cheating this time, I mean it!"

"What happened, happened," Velika said, softly. "We all survived, and Sonja got another friend out of it. I think we came out better rather than worse, don't you think? Besides, I encouraged her, so I'm more to blame than you."

"In someways, perhaps," he replied quietly. "Although I do not see how you can be to blame. She is my responsibility, I simply seem to have problems telling her no...I should really work on that."
"Hey! Are you two paying attention!" Sonja called down to her companions. "Because we're ready to go up here!"

"Of course!" Velika called up. "On your marks!.... Get set!.....GO!" She watched them while she spoke to Aydan. "Are we a flock now? A family? Because if we are, then that makes her safety, and yours, my responsibility too, yeah?"

"Hey, I see you two whispering down there!" Sonja called springing forward a second after the lion. "You'd better not be talking about me!"
"Focus on the race, Sonja! Or Stalker will beat you again and never let you live it down...." To Velika he replied in a quieter voice, "Yeah, I like the idea of being a flock, a family, but I've been responsible for Sonja for so long, I don't think it'll be easy to give that up."

"Well, that shouldn't be too hard," he replied. "She leaves a lot to worry about...even on the good days."

Aydan merely shook his head, "I don't know why these two put so much focus on their races. We all know they'll be up there doing the same thing tomorrow if not earlier..."
Sonja grinned and did a loop around Nightstalker before rushing over the finish line. "Beat ya again, Stalker!" she beamed and bumped heads with the cat in an affectionate manner. "But that was a pretty good run! Still...I bet we can be faster..."

He couldn't argue with that. "At least she seems to have calmed some during our stay here," he noted watching the pair as they started to play some strange combination of tag that occasionally mixed with hide and seek. "And what about you?" he asked suddenly. "How have you been? Aside from taking care of me..."

She blinked, a bit startled by the question, then laughed a bit. "Trying to turn the tables and take care of me, Aydan?" she teased. "If I didn't know better, I'd think you were getting bored, what with Sonja behaving and all. To answer your question, I'm good. Happy even. I enjoy being here... well, not HERE here, but here in these circumstances. Well, it'd be nicer if you weren't hurting. I don't like you hurting, but you're healing. Oh... I'm bungling this, aren't I? Let me try again! I'm happy being here, with you. And Sonja. And Nightstalker."

Aydan laughed out loud, "That was...very convincing. But I'm glad, very glad that you are happy. Even under the circumstances. Not that they're so bad anymore! Or that they were ever very bad...aside from that whole skinwalker...thing..." he stopped suddenly and offered with an almost bashful smile. "Maybe we should try to keep this simple?"
Sonja's ears craned forward as she tried to mark out what Aydan and Velika were saying down below. For a moment there she Almost thought Aydan was...but that was impossible. "All he's capable of is fretting and fun ruining," she muttered to her partner in crime. Nightstalker's ears flattened against her head and she gave the mare a sideways look. "Well he is!" Sonja whispered forcefully.

Velika giggled. "Ah, but then how would we learn if we kept things simple? But if you'd like, we certainly can... it's just rather limiting, don't you think?" she smiled.
