"Compared to the demon dorms? We're stuck in the shacks," he drawled, amused as he remembered Danny's room in particular. "My best friend--well, my best ghoul friend, she's a fire demon, she's got a room so hot you gotta strip if you're planning on spending any time there. Her bed is huge, and I'm betting she's got a lava jacuzzi or soemthin somewhere in there, too. Me, I got a kitchen, but all I use it for is food storage. And another friend of mine put in a karaoke booth for me."

"Yeah?" Lark grinned mischievously. "I gotta deal fer ya, Roch. Since yer gonna help me n' Ben, I'ma alley up and cook ya a meal in thanks." The ghoul nodded her head curtly. "So once we're done sparrin', ya tell me what ya wanna eat and I'll do m'best to cook it up fer ya."
That sounded like a right fair deal to Lark.
"Lark ain't a bad cook," Ben interjected. "Don't letter fool ya, Roch." The familiar's lip flipped up in a smile.

"Yeah? That sounds awesome, because I'm a jackin' good eater," Roch told them with a grin. It sounded like a brag, but there seemed to be a hint of truth to it, on top of it. "I won the school eating contest, against a grue," he added.
Then he cocked his head at both of them, curious. "So do either of you play an instrument?"

Lark and Ben made quite a sight as they started shaking their heads in sync with one another. "Nah, never had a chance t'learn," Lark admitted. "M'dad is kinda... well, strict." She cleared her throat and send a sideways glance at Ben, who promptly went into a tirade.
"Lark's pop issa right drongo," he spat, pinning his ears back. It was obvious by his tone that he did not hold Lark's father in high esteem. "Not that my opinion matters, tch."
Lark shook her head. "He just wants me t'do the best I can, is all."

He stared at her. "Seriously? He wouldn't let you learn to play an instrument? He didn't like the giant sun--kangaroo? He sounds like a serious jacktard." He frowned, then shrugged. "But hell, you're here now, you can learn something if you want. I know a lot of people figure out new stuff they can do while here."
He dropped down on the bench again, laying down this time, one leg hanging over the back. Then he stopped. "But," he said slowly. "Be careful about signing up to go on the field trips."

"It's jus'ta bit complicated," Lark said quietly. She didn't know why she felt the urge to defend her father to Roch. It was rather silly. "Tha'sa story fer another time, Roch." She sent a warning glance towards Ben, threatening him with an immediate de-summoning if he kept runnin' his mouth. "After all, I don't want'a bore ya."
Really though, she just didn't want to talk much about her reasons for being at the school.
Ben snorted, loudly, before rocking back to balance on his tail. He started mumbling to himself, the words 'maggoty' 'wanker' and 'damn fool' clearly heard.
Lark blatantly ignored her familiar. "S'wrong with th'field trips? They borin'?"

"They're dangerous," Roch said. "Lots of hard work, no pay off. In fact, I'm only going on the next one because I wanna get some revenge," he admitted, his eyes cold as he thought of the hunters. He shook it off, giving her an easy grin. "So you know how to get to town and everything? And to not go to the wishing well, right?"

"Aye," Lark chirped, grinning. She was thankful for the change of topic. "We know how t'get t'town, mate." Her head tilted to the side in confusion, as did Ben's. They both blinked owlishly at the boil.
"What's ah.. wha'sat th' wishin' well?"
It was a good thing she'd met Roch. Without his knowledge, she'd have been hitting up all the bad areas of town without even realizing it.

"Somebody thought it'd be fun to plant man eating plants there," Roch said. "So, unless you're out for a free fight, you'll probably want to avoid it." He thought for a moment, then shrugged. "There's a lot of stuff you'll run into, but I figure you'll be fine. Except..." He looked around, catching sight of a boogeyman out of the corner of his eyes. "We're a little under lockdown right now."

Lark leaned in a little closer, wide-eyed.
"Aye, I heard my mum talkin' to m'dad 'bout it. Mum didn't want me t'come t'school if there was gonna be any ... bodgy happenin's." She narrowed her eyes. "Dad didn't seem too buggered, so here I am, but I read some things in th'papers."
Ben clicked his tongue, but kept quiet other than that.

"They call us liars," he said bluntly. "But you shouldn't have many problems, since you didn't go on the field trip. Except now you're talking to me," he said, shaking his head. "Which probably isn't a good idea," he admitted. "They don't like me much."

Lark tapped her chin with a finger as she watched the boogeyman send a long look in Roch's direction. She couldn't fathom why they wouldn't like the boil -- he'd been nothing but nice to her n' Ben since they'd met him.
"Tell y'what. I'mma make y'some dinner t'night. Kinda like'a ... thanks n'advance." She grinned and leaned forward. "Plus there ain't no boogeymen n' m'dorm. Then we can make plans fer a spar, yeah? What'cha say?"
Ben gave a bark of pleased laughter. "Best ta say yes, Roch. Girl's like a damn train when she puts 'er mind ta somethin'."

"Well I sure as hell ain't gonna say no!" Roch said, hopping to his feet. "Let's go, I'm tired of them leering at me, anyway. I try to explain I just don't swing that way and they never seem to get it," he said evilly, flipping the boogey off by sticking his middle finger up his nose.
What he didn't realize was that that particular boogey had seen him with SO many ghouls that he was wondering if there were some sort of tips he could write down. He'd make millions if he could make a book out of it! Maybe ghouls really did go for bad boils...

Lark giggled outright behind her hand as Roch made the vulgar gesture. "Yer gonna get it one'a these days, Roch," she chuckled, shaking her head. "I guess I don't need t'lead ya t'the dorms, huh? Since.. y'know, we live in th'same ones, mate." She grinned cheekily before taking a few steps in the direction of her dorm.
"Lil' brat," Ben plodded after Lark, shaking his head. "C'mon, Roch. She's in a right mood, she is."
It wouldn't take them long to reach the dorms, and Lark bee-lined straight for her own. She was excited to have a friend, and that showed in the enthusiasm with which she opened the door to her dorm. Thankfully she was more than meticulous when it came to a clean room.
"Home sweet home," she trilled, holding the door open for Ben and Roch.

"Cool, I'm down a few floors," he said, following her in and looking around. "Bottom floor, to be exact. I like being able to get out without too many people noticing," he said idly. "So, we don't gotta go grocery shopping first or anything, do we?" he asked, his mind turning to food.
Then he grinned at Ben. "Right mood don't sound too bad to me, ma--roo. If it includes cooking, I think we should encourage it!"
