Content to walk in silence, she let the soft lull of the crashing waves fill the gaps between them, the distant din of nocturnal creatures reaching her ears despite the fields of distance between them and the trees they all nested in. Tesla drew in a deep breath, a little excitedly anxious given her new company but still comfortable with the salt air in her lungs. "It takes a little to get used to," she finally broke the silence, glancing over to the waves; the moonlight glinted off each curl of water, casting moonbeams before the wave crested. "It gets a little loud and wet when the storms hit, but we're on secure grounds."
She was trying for polite chit-chat but there was no harm in drawing out any information she could offer for the night. Not that she wanted to bombard him, but the more he knew before he started working on the house, the better. "I need to fortify the porch again before the next rainy season..." she murmured under her breath, mind reeling over her own chores that she had to wade through. Tesla knew it wasn't a concern until winter ended but it didn't stop her from thinking ahead, especially if it snowed. To Elias, she offered a smile as her feet found the moonlit wooden steps leading to the front door. "It's a lot of work, but it's home." Releasing his arm, her fingers found the door with practiced ease, pushing it open and immediately reaching to the side to find the lantern she knew was there.

He nodded at her words, listening to the steady rhythm of the waves as they crashed on the shore. It would take a while of getting used to. The hunter was used to lush trees within wide forests and high, steep mountains with jagged rocks covered in cold snow. He was no stranger to winter though, that he didn't worry about, his home village resting in the heart of surely one of the coldest areas in the continent. But now he was starting his life near a shore which was both strange but expectedly peaceful to Elias.
"I shall pray to the gods for good weather. Especially for the renovations.." he answered after a while, the slight shiver of his body that had nothing to do with the cold. "Of course I shall help you with that --if you wish." he added quickly, looking over to her and squinting a little, the night completely falling on them.
When they came upon her front porch he tilted his head up, appreciating the solid construction of the brick structure. As she took the lit lantern in her hands he took a step back, watching her as he kept his hands behind him formally. As she stepped in her house he could see a slight glimpse of the interior and as she took the lantern in her hand. Awkwardly he bowed his head at her, assuming that they would part ways now. He did not want to burden her anymore than he had. "Thank you, Tesla. ---I appreciate your kind welcome. I'll see you again soon."

"Oh grace, don't you even think about helping with my home, Elias!" Tesla laughed with good humor. "You've enough on your plate." Lighting the lantern with a quick strike of a match and a practiced light of the wick, the looked at him again from over the soft glow, smiling at the play of the golden cast on his grey eyes. "Ah -- now you just wait right there!" Lifting her index finger, she gave a sudden, thoughtful smile before disappearing down the main hallway of her home and into one of the side doors. It'd been one of her sibling's rooms, untouched now for over a year but still immaculately clean. Setting through the closet, she found what she was looking for: a quilt of mingled blues, meant to represent the ocean hues. It was hand-made by her mother, sturdy and thick, warm for the coldest of nights. Pressing the folded material over her arm and against her chest, she also seized two of the stuffed pillows she had and, with lantern dangling from her fingers, she returned to the front door not but two minutes later.
Pressing the warmth-giving blanket and soft pillows into Elias's chest - she would not take no for an answer - she fixed him with a beaming smile. "Before I forget - I got to town every Thursday and sometimes Saturday. If you ever need something picked up, just leave a list in the mailbox and I'll bring it by on my way home." Tesla's green eyes turned briefly towards the dark house the man would occupy, almost swearing she could still see the golden glow of the bottle within. "You stay warm, Elias, and call on me if there's anything I can do to help." Lightly plucking one side of her cloak, she offered him a polite curtsy. "Welcome to the neighborhood!"

"B--but--" was all the dark haired male could stammer out before Tesla ran inside her house, leaving the male's mouth left open. Elias obediently followed, standing out there with a confused expression, peeking in slightly into the house of the other. He fiddled with the hem of his shirt, looking around the area barely making out the slight field of grass around the front porch, a sign of winter to come.
The steps alerted him, darting his eyes back to the opened door and into the bright green eyes of the other. It took a while for him to realize what she was giving him, the softness of the cloth and cotton pressing on his chest. It was lovely. It was not an exaggeration that Elias did not have the pleasure of sleeping on a real pillow for a long time. He bit his lip, ready to object politely but stopped when he saw that smile of hers, the male already knowing that she wouldn't hear any of it. With an unintelligent "Uh-uh", Elias bowed his at her curtsy, the gesture longer this time. "Of course, Tesla. Thank you--this is the first time meeting you and, I am.. entirely in your debt." With that he took a step backward, waiting for her to close the door.
As they bid their final goodbyes Elias turned to leave. It wasn't hard for him to find his way back home even in the dark, from the distance he could see a strange faint glow within his small shack.
Just when his night couldn't get any more peculiar.
