The doe's tail stirred slightly as she felt something in the water getting closer to her. Something more substantial than the little water snake, or the tiny fish. Don't let it be a catfish, don't let it be a catfish... "What is it?" she asked softly, almost mouthing it to the buck behind her.

She didn't want to risk turning about, and scaring whatever it was away.

"Fish." He mouthed back, careful not to pronounce the S fully. The hissing sound might be too much and could scare it off. It was a medium-sized long fish, similar to a pike, with a knobbly head and an ugly fin stretching along the length of its back. Not an overly pleasant creature, and prone to nipping, but not nearly as vicious as a catfish. His eyes followed it as it slowly swam towards Silver, and his hind end wiggled ever so slightly, like a cat about to pounce.

The fish was oblivious, though it seemed like the kind of creature that had been in many tough situations before. Perhaps it just felt lucky, or perhaps it didn't have the capabilities to think out the trouble that it could be in. Either way, it swam steadily on, slowly but with purpose, ready to latch onto Silver's ankles and get itself a meal.

When it was too close to flee, Chuckles struck, rearing up high and bringing both feet down into the water onto the fish. It would have been far safer to simply dip his head down and snap the thing up, but he didn't trust his own speed, and besides, this was far cooler looking. With a bit of luck, his right hoof grazed the fish's head, stunning it and allowing Chuckles to yank it to shore.

"Got it!" He announced, utterly pleased.

She watched the buck as he kicked out into the water, perilously close to her own tail. A short, sharp inhale marked her worry before he grinned... well, as his mouth grinned, and he tossed the thing onto the sandy bank.

"Well done!" she said, voice a tad higher and more chime-like than usual in her excitement. The appreciation was obvious as she cleaned herself in the stream, before stepping to the fish, picking it up as it gasped and flopped, and biting down on it's neck so it fell limp.

She practically simpered at him, as they walked away from the water, and spoke delicately around the fish in her mouth. "We'hw eat wehw today. Now... lesh find a playsh in the shun to eat..." she suggested. The large fish looked almost comical in her small mouth, but she made no motion to give it to him, or spit it out.

He laughed aloud, and was pleased to have helped. Following alongside her, he kept his eyes on her, not the fish. In truth he wasn't terribly hungry, he mostly grazed and there was never a lack of good plants to munch on. But sharing a meal with this pretty doe sounded like a lovely idea.

"There's a spot there, with some nice rocks." He pointed out an area near to them, one that he often stopped to rest in during his wandering. "They get hot in the sun, sometimes watersnakes go to bask there." But none were there today, and he settled down in a taller part of the grass, absentmindedly chewing on the tips.

The silver doe nodded, stepping over to the rocks, any laying the fish down, taking a hoof and washing it daintily in the nearby water before walking on her three other legs, back to the fish. She laid the end of her hoof on the fish, and pushed, scraping off some scales, before she scraped the scales off on the rock. She started again, sloughing even more scales off. "Well, if we happen to see one, we could try to catch it? I have a..." she paused, staring at the fish as she pondered it. "Well, a sort-of niece, or daughter, almost, that loves snakes and hasn't been able to find one of a companionable sort." She paused in her speech, leaning in a bit to look at the scales left on the skin, before she started to rub along the thing once more.

Satisfied, she flipped it over.

"We can definitely give it a shot." He responded, beaming at her. A chance to help out? Gladly! But right now, he spotted something even better... A way to make her laugh. Or at the very least, to look like a goofball and give himself a reason to laugh.

He inched over to the clump of scraped scales, eyes glinting roguishly. Slowly, he jammed his nose into them when she wasn't looking, and his muzzle gleamed in the sunlight when he lifted his head. He grinned sheepishly.

Silver smiled as he agreed to help her, if they found a snake. She continued working on the fish, stopping dead when she saw him lean over near her hoof. "What...?" she started, then noticed the glitter of translucent scales on his muzzle. She made a noise, that if it had come from a less delicate doe, would have been labeled a snort.

"Black's more your color, Glow," she informed him with amusement.

Still grinning, he pranced in place, utterly pleased that she found him amusing. Nothing he could do was ever too self-deprecating if it caused someone else to laugh.

"Well, we'll just have to catch a black-scaled fish then. I think my hooves need something shiny." He spun in a circle, some of the scales flying off his face in the process. When he stopped, he shook his head, the rest of them following suit. Several landed on his own sides and back, and he glanced back at them, laughing to himself.

"You know, I bet this look could catch on."

Silver laughed again, surprised in spite of herself.

"You're probably right, Smile. Maybe it could."
