Tari blinked at Tafari. Well, it was perfectly fine to agree to disagree, it was what made friendships unique and yet work. If you could accept that you were of different opinions, it meant you understood one another, didn't it? She did smile and nod, however, when he wondered aloud if it was just another game.
"Of course it is. A lady is most certainly going to go with the male that makes her happiest, so you males are always competing for our hearts," she replied and held her head in a sort of proud, almost princess-like manner. As down-to-earth as she might be, she was still a goddess, after all.
"You're certainly better at it than the other gods I've met," Tari added with a playful wink.

So this -was- a game! Tafari's ears pointed forward as a small grin formed on his lips. He couldn't quite put a pin on it, but he suddenly wanted to win this game.
"Oh, I see, so... it's like having a game within a game! It's not like giving up one thing because they are weak but giving your all in a completely different thing!" Tafar answered with a puffed chest. "Still sounds like a challenge. I mean, going easy on someone in the fist place."
It wasn't something he would ever think of doing. You had to try for something with your all, but what if that meant not trying but trying at the same time? Tafari found his mind chasing its tail at the mere thought of this strange game. A wonder what his rival would think if a strange game like this...
"Really?" He added after her second statement sunk in. "Have we been playing this game the whole time?"

Tari watched the gears turning in Tafari's brain with a rather pleased feeling. Of course he never thought of it like that, no doubt only females thought of it that way. Well... maybe not, but there was always a sort of childishness about Tafari. It reminded her of before, when everything was... sort of black and white. She'd grown up a lot since then. She'd seen so many prides, run into lions of one sort or another and needless to say she had changed. Tafari hadn't.
"If you think of it that way, yeah. That is, if you wanna win me." A part of her cringed at saying those words. She could have phrased it differently or something, made it a more general statement like how it was the game he'd have to play if he had an eye on a female. But no, she had to make it about herself and a bit of a blush bloomed beneath the fur on her cheeks.

Tafari blinked. What just happened? There was a specific other person to play this game with? The young god was at a loss for words. His mouth opened than closed slightly and remained slightly ajar as he tried to think of a response.
"Uh..." He hummed. "Win you? What do you mean by that?"
An honest question. The poor Tafari was still thinking of competition between him and her, the thought of a competitor as a prize was unheard of. Or unthoughtful of.

"Oh, um..." Finally, Tari was at a loss for words. How in the world was she supposed to explain to Tafari that it was winning a female as a mate? She sighed and ran a paw through her mane. Gone was the flirtatious bearing, suddenly replaced by a young awkwardness and more blushing.
"Um, females will..." "Females stay with the male that makes them happiest. So, for the attention of a lady, males are always in competition," Hermes finally spoke up again, preening his goddess' mane. It hurt him a bit that she was talking about this with another male, but the bird knew what it was between him and his goddess. As much as she never would, he would always care about her far deeper than any friend should. He knew it wasn't right, but it was difficult, having known her all their lives, seeing her so often as a bird. It was confusing and wonderful and painful all at the same time. But if helping this young male understand what it was a female needed, especially one as sensitive and wounded as his goddess, the devoted raptor would do anything.
Tari continued blushing and nodded. "What he said."

It was Tafari's turn to blush this time. It hit like a brick caught in a tornado. She was hitting on -him-? He swallowed hard. She was a fine looking goddess, but was there really anything more than her charming personality, cheerful mood and charm that he could find attractive?
When Hermes gave his input he shot a scowl. "I -know- that." He snapped. He couldn't help but feel his competitor was right in front of him in the form of a bird. As strange as that thought may be.
He drew a deep breath and looked back at Tari. The scowl was replaced with his lost and unsure smile. "So... you are saying that I should try to win you?"

"Could have fooled me," Hermes replied with a bit of a smug look. Before the god could take exception to it, he hopped behind his goddess and started cleaning her wings. Tari ignored Hermie's response. She had been too busy caught up in her playful banter that she hadn't seen where it was going and now she was stuck without something to tell him. Did she want him to try and win her? She had enjoyed his company since she'd met him and he made her laugh and he was handsome and he was a god who wasn't too into himself or jaded or timid to be interested in her, but did she really like him? And what about her kids? Would he have a problem with that? Would he be uncomfortable with her over it, with her trying to find them? She was thinking too much, her head was starting to hurt and her face was so warm!
"Um, well... No, I mean, just... Only... Only if you want to." "She's a clawful, be warned." Altair piped up, earning a glare from both Hermes and Tari this time. The smaller raptor's crest fell as he cringed under the looks and he went back to picking at his food.

Tafari shot a glare to the bird. He was liking him less and less with this awkward situation at hand. His tail flicked again before he looked back at Tari. 'no'.. or a maybe. This ordeal made his head hurt just a little.
"Well, yeah, I mean, there is nothing wrong with that. If you're okay with that... that is, you know... well..." He fumbled around his words not even sure himself what he was saying. "I don't know how that goes, do you need to try and win me? Is this where I need to let you win?"
Surely something in his mind face-pawed at his own questions. The little bird's comment even went completely unnoticed by the god. All his attention remained on Tari.

Tari's look suddenly fell, her ears flicking back as she looked away. Oh no, it was happening again, she was getting caught up and letting herself be swept away and she just couldn't let that happen again. She liked Tafari, he was so nice even if he was a little too playful sometimes... "I... I don't know right now," she replied a little shortly and launched herself into the air without another word, leaving both her birds behind. Altair's eyes went wide and he quickly followed, leaving just Hermes and Tafari.
Knowing he'd be able to find them without too much trouble, Hermes opted to stay behind for a moment. He walked over to the half-eaten prey-bird Altair had left and drew it up in one claw, looking over the job the younger raptor had done in plucking the feathers.

Tafari's brow quirked at the sudden change of heart from the competitor. Did he just loose the game? His mouth opened to utter a response, but it was cut off abruptly by her sudden takeoff.
"Hey! Wait! What's wrong?!" Tafari called after her.
He payed Hermes no mind as he himself spread his strange wings and took off after the goddess with all the speed he could muster. Her parting was just too strange to leave unattended to. Tafari could swear that he could sense some pain within her words. It was just so strange! A second ago she was cheerful and, grant it a little awkward, but happy.
