Riyo was relieved and disturbed all within seconds of each other. What was he- Did the tea taste that bad? Oh jeez, he was drooling all over himself!
Oh, wait. The demon knew what was happening now. "... You should blow on it before you take a sip next time. Might help." Standing momentarily, the ghoul opened one of the cabinets and pulled out a container of sugar, sitting it in front of Charlie cautiously. "Sprinkle a little bit of sugar onto your tongue and it helps relieve the burning." Which was the only reason she even kept sugar around. The ghoul didn't like sweets, after all.
"As for liking cute things..." She started with a sigh, sitting back down and lifting the tea to her mouth so she could follow her own advice to cool it down. "I know a lot of people don't believe it, but I am a ghoul too..." Seemed like wishful thinking anymore, though. They'd acknowledge her as a person, but not as a ghoul.
Riyo didn't really think about why. It could've been that... Oh, you know. She didn't do anything remotely feminine. No dresses, no nail painting, no makeup, no messing around with her hair... Even her dorm room (save the kitten kitchen accessories) was rather gender neutral.

Charlie gladly accepted the sugar and happily sprinkled three heaping spoon fulls in to his cup. Then he greedily took a sip.
"Much better~" He chimed and took another sip of the beverage. He was drinking his tea and to much amazement , actually listening to what Riyo had to say. Her words about being a ghoul cut a little deep at the demon. He set his cup down with a loud clank and stood up.
"Course you're a ghoul. But.. but .. Ghouls can be tough some times and not like cute things and uh... " He paused. Where was he going with this again? The demon had forgotten exactly but he knew he had to make Riyo smile some how. If it was possible. "You know what~ I could make you some cute things if you want?" He rolled up a sleeve to reveal his human like hand, "These fingers are good for sewing I mean.. "

Dear sweet Jack that kid could devour sugar.
Riyo's eye and ears twitched when Charlie sat the cup down rather harshly, her eyes immediately looking over the cup for any signs of a crack. "I-I know." Because of that, she supposed it really shouldn't bother her... So why did it?
The feline's eyes widened ever so slightly when she saw the fallen angel's hands for the first time ever. That was a surprise. "Oh? What? No... You really don't have to do that." Finally, she took a long sip of her tea. "I don't like it when people do me favors..." They always expected something back, whether they realized it at the moment or not.
Though... She did wonder... " Raising a brow she looked over at the pink-haired boil. "What... Kind of things?"

Charlie was crossing his arms at this point of time. At her question he just smiled and replied.
"Awesome things." And gave her the best wink he could. Which was kind of awkward. "I can make clothing and toys and all sorts of things. I'm not good at construction with wood though.." He rubbed his chin and looked thoughtful. Power tools and Charlie or tools in general did not mix well. There was often a lot of blood loss.
"Annnnd just think of it as pay back for tea time ~ " He picked up the cup again and took another sip.

The wink from Charlie was a little strange, considering the way his eyes usually were. "Hah, no seriously. You don't have to. I don't play with toys... And I haven't since..."
The ghoul's face went blank momentarily as she tried to recall the last time she'd even touched something like that. It slowly became perplexed the harder she attempted to remember. "... It's been awhile. I'll leave it at that." It seemed like the longer she was away from work, the more questions about her life kept popping up. Was she becoming more diluted or were things getting clearer? Hell if she knew.
"Charlie?" She hated butting into other people's business, but Riyo found herself asking this question more and more. "Do you have parents? And if you do, what are they like?"

"Its been a while?" Charlie couldn't speak much on the having an a lot of toys front. Charlie had very little material wise. His headphones were actually a gift from the inn people that housed him before coming to the school. It was a reward for getting in.
"Parents." His tone was thoughtful, "I have a mom and a dad. But my mom wanted me to leave home and I never knew my dad cept for a letter. Thats why I enrolled ~ So that I could read it." He rubbed the back of his head. The demon had just admitted to not being able to read, not something he usually admitted so openly.
"I can't read well," He frowned. That was putting it lightly. Charlie was almost completely illiterate. "But I want to read good so that I can read that letter and know what my dad was trying to say," He was embarrassed now. It was a stupid reason to come to such a highly regarded academy.

His mom... Wanted him to leave? Riyo's face grew into a grimace as Charlie explained his situation. So he didn't really have a good relationship with his parents eith-
Wait, he couldn't read?
If this had been the first time Riyo met the boil, she might've laughed... But this was a little tragic. He had a letter from his father, the only thing he had of the old man, and he couldn't read it. That was certainly more than her father had left her with.
Sipping her tea before she spoke, the ghoul had a look of empathy in her red eyes. "That's commendable." Honestly, the feline didn't think it was stupid at all. "Some people would sit around and wish they knew how to read. You did something about it." She could practically see the blush forming on his face after the admittance. "Look. As long as you're giving it all you got, I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of." In her opinion, and the demoness held her opinion higher than most.

Riyo's approval made the demons face light up once again. He was practically shining that Riyo didn't think he was stupid for wanting to learn how to read. "Riyo..." He was standing now and walking over toward the ghoul. Long sleeved arms extended and he gave the ghoul a nice big hug. "Thank you." He squeezed her. Her approval had made him shine.

The fact that her comments made the boil practically glow was both unsettling and satisfying at the same time. Either way, it was certainly better than making some poor sap cry.
"Y-yes?" Riyo asked as Charlie stood, her eyes widening as he closed the gap. No, he wasn't. Was he? He was.
The feline's body tensed as she felt the boil's arms wrap around her, still finding a lack of comfort in the invasion of her personal space. But... It was Charlie. Much like the time that Mitsu hugged her, there wasn't much she could say or do to defend herself from the innocence. "I... Didn't really do anything." Awkwardly, her hands hung to her sides as she waited for the bear hug to be over. "Just make sure whatever you want, you work for it. Then you can look at it and say it was the fruit of your efforts." It was what kept her going most days. What she did was a thankless job, but at the end of the day she could pat herself on the back for doing the best she could.
"It's nice to know your father cared about you enough to at least leave you with a letter." Though it made her wonder why his mom had been so adamant about him leaving. Sure, Charlie was a handful, but that was no reason to kick the poor boil out.

Riyo tensing didn't stop the boil from hugging her. The clear signs that Riyo was uncomfortable with the hug had gone way above the demons head. He was to happy squeezing the top hatted ghoul. But , eventually, all hugs have to come to an end. Charlie released the feline demon after feeling satisfied with the hug. He was nodding in agreement now to her statement about his father cared about him. "I think your right and.. Thats why I wanna know what the letter says." He had a very serious none Charlie look on his face. "What about you Riyo?" The demons head went to the side.

A relieved sigh escaped the ghoul's mouth as Charlie finally backed off. There was no point in offering to read it for him. It was something the boil had to do on his own.
"Oh. My parents?" Should've seen that question coming. Riyo's face grew stoic at the very thought. "My father also left when I was very young. Apparently because of me." Though she didn't specify. It was something her mother told her and the cat ghoul had come to her own conclusions.
Holding up the tea to her lips, she glanced away from the fallen angel. "And my mother is... Permanently indisposed of." She mumbled out the last part before polishing off her tea. "So I've been living by myself for awhile because by the time mother... Left, I was already relying on my own devices to get by anyways." She didn't really know how to cook, but she knew how to order takeout.

"Hmm." Charlie was rubbing his chin in a thoughtful way with his long sleeved hand. "I bet your dad went on vacation with my dad. Mom says - or said that dad went on an extended vacation." He gave a nod finally. Charlie logic. Still, even with Charlie logic, the pink haired demon knew that all and all his father still had left him behind. Vacation or not. "I tell you what. We can stick together and be a family if you like."

"Charlie, I don't think that's the case..." The ghoul started, about to explain why... Until she realized... That Charlie might've needed that affirmation. "But maybe I guess..." Her eyes glanced away from the boil as she reluctantly lied to him. Riyo didn't like candy coating things, but the idea of crushing someone else's dreams like hers had been was a painful thought. She didn't want to be that kind of person, even if she was already half way there.
Though the fallen angel's next comment caught her off guard. "Charlie... I don't even know what it means to be a family." The feline reluctantly admitted, standing to place her cup in the sink. "I'm sure there are many other students who would make better company than I would." Seemed like everyone was starting to consider her family. It was... A little uncomfortable, considering it was happening so fast. She didn't want to accidentally hurt the boil, though. Sure, he bounced back easily... But Riyo didn't want to test the limits of that.

"Pfffff, Sure there are. But I got none and you got none so we can be terrible at families together," He gave her a nod. That logic made since. The demon lifted his cup and took a sip of the tea.

Charlie's reasoning was somehow sound, and it made Riyo inwardly cringe. She was doing her best to be 'sensitive' and not crush the boil's little heart, but he was making it hard. After being alone for so long, the feline was uncomfortable with the idea of family. While having someone to confide in was probably nice, the idea that they could grow to despise you was always an issue in her mind. After all, family COULD grow to hate you. Her situation proved it, and it looked like Charlie's had too.
The thought that she might grow to hate someone had never really crossed her mind, though. Hell, Riyo already hated most people. A tolerating hate, she supposed. "Um." So instead of confirming or denying anything, it was time to change the subject. "Charlie, do you like small, fuzzy creatures?" This would be going downhill fast.
