Zoe watched the kitten attack the shade yet again, feeling helpless and wondering all the while how a kitten of all things managed to push the creature back again and again. She barely had time to think when the pen was tossed in her direction, she simply reached out and grabbed it by instinct. Then the cat was talking, giving her instructions, and the shade was nearly on them again..
..was she dreaming? When was the last time she'd even slept? Everything was happening too quickly to analyze.
Finding that she didn't have time to question why the cat was talking (really, it made more sense than the shade) she simply did as she was told:
"Midas Power, Make-up!"
Instantly, the world was a blur of lights and glittering gold. She felt like a leaf trapped in a whirlwind as she was twisted and turned, feeling the rippling touch of something as it spread from her head down over her fingertips and every inch of her body. When she was deposited again, she stood proud as Sailor Midas, though there was almost nothing to stand on then.
She glanced down through the gaping hole in the platform, seeing the tiny talking kitten hit the ground roughly and the specter fall down after her. She still wasn't sure what had just happened, or why she was dressed like one of the terrorists she saw on tv from time to time, but she knew one thing - she felt stronger. The cold wasn't as chilling, the fear wasn't as terrifying, and confidence was spreading through her like warmth. Without a second thought she vaulted the side of the fire escape and fell, landing in a half crouch with more grace than any human would have.
She wasted no time in standing, looming over the fallen specter, and promptly brought her heeled foot up. Then she slammed it down, heel first, right onto the head of the shadow beast.

As soon as the heel drove through the head of the youma, it quickly dispersed, like a puff of smoke. It left nothing behind but a chilled air and a memory. Not to far from where Midas' had so... gracefully disposed of the trash, Diana lay panting. Her eyes moved to look at the new senshi, and she smiled tiredly.
Wincing, the kitten pushed herself slowly up onto her paws, her body giving a shake as she did so. She gave the best of a curt bow as a little broken kitten could, before looking back up.
"Sailor Midas." she offered the name quietly towards the girl.
"You're fast on your feet." her red eyes dropped to where the shadow youma had dispersed.
"Thank you." she brought herself into a sitting position, wrapping her tail around her feet.
"I think I probably owe you some explanations..."

It was with relief that Midas watched the shadow dissipate into nothing. She waved at the air with her hand, as if she were blowing away cigarette smoke, and then walked through the haze towards the kitten. It was done for and now to be forgotten in the wake of Midas' new power and all of the bizarre things that the kitten was offering to explain.
She crouched down in front of the tiny figure with a raised brow, leaning forward just a little so she could meet the kitten's red eyes with her pink ones. "Midas, like the King." A controversial name, but she would take it. Not that she thought she had a choice. She reached out then and scooped the tiny kitten up again, though this time she cradled her gently in her arms instead of suffocating her with a death grip. Even if she didn't show the compassion on her face, it was there, along with a thankfulness that the kitten was around when that creature showed up.
Of course, if the kitten had never showed up at all she might not have ever seen the thing in the first place. Oh well, small grievances.
"Let's start with why you can talk," she was already taking control of this situation, trying to steer Diana to the things she wanted to know, "and your name. Then we'll talk about that creature, and.." the words trailed off behind her as she walked back out of the alley and into the dark of an emptying street. Diana was in for a long night.
