Shabnam knew she shouldn't but it was too hard to resist. She let out a barking laugh at the description that Theluji gave her. Oh this young one was very amusing. It was hard to make her laugh. She rarely found things to be funny. The wild land was too harsh to be laughing all the time. It was just live or die out here. Theluji was like a refreshing breeze. Though she didn't want to, Shabnam found herself liking the young lioness.
She tilted her head and replied, "They are rather large. I tend to stay away from them. Lions have little tolerance for hyenas." Shabnam stopped there. Her thoughts strayed to how strange Theluji was. Perhaps they never really encountered hyenas in the swamps that her pride lived in. She sure couldn't imagine any hyenas wanting to be in a swamp.
Shabnam gave Theluji a warm smile. "I think it's perfectly fine for a mother to raise her pups...or cubs by herself. When the time comes that I have pups of my own, I'll be just fine raising them myself. Of course, some males get attached to their offspring." She looked at Theluji with questioning eyes. "You shouldn't be scared of them. You are like them, a lion, a feline. They wouldn't chase you off." That was what Shabnam knew at least. She had never met any pride with males that would chase females away or hurt them.

Theluji shook her head, her bangs flying through the air without bouncing. "I don't trust them. They have too much fluffy, and then a lot of them flaunt it without realizing they flaunt it. No, fluffies aren't to be trusted."
She frowned and tilted her head. "But why?" Theluji never had any dealings with hyenas. And Shabnam was the one hyena that she'd even ever seen. She was very nice and she was amazing when hunting, bringing down the prey. Theluji thought they'd make very good friends. "Hyenas seem like any other predator to me, and lions tolerate cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs and things."
Theluji yawned, lowering her head to her front legs. Her eyes were starting to feel droopy, but she didn't want to miss a moment with her new friend. After all, she was on a quest and she could spend the entire time with Shabnam. Theluji was sure that wasn't allowed. How was her name going to find her when she was depending on others and never alone to think, search, find, or be?

Shabnam felt it would be best if she did not comment further on male lions. Theluji could keep her opinion. Surely it would change when the time came for her to mate. For now, the lioness was too young to worry about that.
She shook her head and grinned slightly. Theluji was so young and ignorant of the ways beyond her homeland. If Shabnam was the type, she would follow Theluji on her journey just to make sure she'd be safe. That would be no good for her friend though. She needed to do this journey on her own. Shabnam blinked as she realized that she considered Theluji a friend. How odd.
She smiled and responded, "There are many hyenas that will try to steal the food that lions work hard to hunt down. If it is a lone hyena, that is not likely. Packs of hyenas can be very aggressive. Just remember to be careful." Theluji just seemed too trusting. Just look at how easily she took to Shabnam.
When Theluji yawned, she nuzzled the lioness in an affectionate manner. "Go to sleep young one. We are safe here." She waited till her friend had fallen asleep before whispering, "When you find your name, we can go to that waterfall together before you go home." Then she curled up near the entrance to their shelter. If anything came near them, she would be the first thing they would encounter.
