Oh man. He was supposed to pick the lantern Danny would have to display in front of everyone? Why did that make his hear squeeze in dread? He didn't want that much on his shoulders, even if it was just a lantern! Still, she'd asked him too...
With a very visible pout, he began sifting through the lanterns, trying to be gentle. There were too many, and he sort of felt overwhelmed... until his lips twitched in amusement. Turning with the lantern hidden behind his back, his sing-songed her name. "Oh Danny...." chuckle, snort, "I found the perfect one." The lantern he held up was a soft blue with white trim, a very large, very cold looking snowflake plastered on the glass pane.

Danny's eyes swiveled around to look at the wonderful lantern Rikki had picked out especially for her. They were met with absolute disgust. He had picked out a big fat snowflake that just screamed Edel. Shouted it at the top of its stupid lantern lungs.
If anything, Danny was just disappointed. Her face fell immediately, and she shoved Rikki. "You just think this is a game don't you!" Was that a twinge of bitterness in her tone? Well so what! Rikki wasn't the one who had to carry this around on his tail for the rest of time.
Did Rikki even have a tail?
It didn't matter. Danny reached out with her leg to kick him in the shins, but it got tangled in a stray piece of rope on the ground (seriously, this poe needed to clean up his shop, pronto!). Suddenly she was flinging through the air.
Right onto Rikki.

He would have felt bad. He really would have! Except, he was laughing too hard. His ribs actually kind of hurt from the laughter. Oh man. How had this poe known exactly what lantern he needed? Thank you, mystery poe.
His laughter was only cut short by the impact that slammed the air from his lungs and sent him sprawling to the ground in a mess of limbs and crashing glass. The sharp, quick pain of a shard scratching his teeth made him wince, and when he lifted his hand to wipe away the blood he felt trickling, he brushed against hair instead.
Hair that didn't belong to him.
He blinked his eyes opened, and then widened them in slight shock. The weight on his chest wasn't a table or piles of broken lanterns. It was one very clumsy demoness. "Uh... H-hi Danny."

For a moment she didn't say anything. In fact, for quite a few moments she didn't say anything. She was really just enjoying how warm Rikki's body was. It was like a fireplace all on its own. Since when could reapers do that?
Wait maybe it was just the fact that her face WAS A NEW SHADE OF CRIMSON. Yeah, it was probably that. Now normally, Danny wouldn'tve cared about landing on someone. In fact, she landed on Roch all the time, much to his dismay. It was really more the fact that she had grown self-aware around Rikki. He made her feel like she was actually doing something.
Danny hopped off of him and brushed herself off, then immediately began busying herself with the nearest set of lanterns. She didn't even notice that they were bright purple and absolutely hideous. At the moment, they were a distraction.
Without even turning around to acknowledge him, Danny said, "S-so I think this one is nice." Could this get anymore awkward?

He kind of just... stayed on the floor for a minute, entirely confused. He had just been... laying on the floor with Danny. They cuddled all the time, but this was different. Not a bad kind of different, but enough to get the very unused cogs in Rikki's mind to start turning. There was something here that needed to be analyzed.
He only rolled to his feet when the poe shooed him away with agitated, wordless movements, and turned to snort at the lantern Danny was talking about. "Danny, that is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. And I've seen Roch without a shirt." He reached past her, his chest brushing her back for a brief second, before handing her a simpler lantern. Clear, almost rustic. She'd still be able to see her flame. "Get this one."

Forgetting that momentary experience, Danny continued pouring through the piles of lanterns. She was trying to get her face to stop being so hot. Danny liked fire, for obvious reasons, but this was different. This was TOO hot.
Then Rikki's presence came back, leaning over her. He really did have nice arms. "Ahhuhhh ..." she began.
Get this one.
It was an order, not a question. Nodding she plucked the lantern from his hand and looked up at him. My his face was close. "This one it is!" Okay, too close. Danny looked away again, and bit her lip. Why was this happening? She wasn't sick again right? Maybe her cold from the beginning of the school year had come back to attack her!
Either way, she needed to distance herself from him for a moment. She took the opportunity to walk over to the poe at the counter. That sounded good.

He had been about to rest his hands on her shoulders experimentally, but she whisked herself away while his hands were still in the air. Tightening them into fists, he shoved them in his pockets (a very common place for them today, it seemed) and watched her gloomily as she went to the counter. It was almost as if she was trying to stay away from him now. But, his male self was pleased that she'd decided to take the lantern he'd picked without question.
"Once you're done I can take it back to my dorm. I'll fix it so it'll go over your tail." Just because he didn't like going to class didn't mean he wasn't handy. He could work his way around a simple tool box if he set his mind to it.

Did Danny hear that? No of course not. Why you might ask? Well because she had already payed for her lantern and was halfway across the store, near the door.
In all honesty, Danny was avoiding Rikki. At least for the time being. Even standing next to him seemed to be altering her facial temperature. Definitely not something she wanted to experience without knowing what it was.
Besides, if she was sick, she didn't want Rikki getting sick too! Danny put her hands over her mouth. What if she had already gotten him sick! Oh no no no, that would never do. She couldn't go around getting her friends sick like that!
Danny waved once and said, "Okay that was fun bye Rikki" and skidded out the door. That poor boil. What had he gotten himself into?
