She swung and she hit, and she suddenly stopped. Candace doubled over with a surprised gasp and curled an arm around her middle, gripping Circe's handle tightly with her other hand. What just happened? When she hit Jordan she felt...a rush. It was like being punched in the chest and then being Popeye when he breaks open a can of Spinach and suddenly getting a rush of inhuman strength. Wait this..this was...! She didn't have time to register it before she suddenly felt Ferros slam into her side and send her flying several feet, hitting the ground with a thud. Normally this would have been followed with a groan, but what did she do instead?
She laughed.
Candace rolled onto her hands and knees and grabbed Circe again, grinning at Jordan. "Nice hit." She commended him. But she had a feeling she could do one better. "My turn~!" Candace swung again, using the tried and true 'swing it like a ******** club' method that had done her well before.

She was laughing. The strange reaction caught Jordan by surprise, and he stared at her as she climbed to her feet, unsettled. She'd looked like she'd been in pain the moment before Ferros struck her, but now, it was like she hadn't even registered it. And he knew that had been a solid blow; he'd felt it, and felt Ferros's flare of satisfaction as the weapon ate away some of the shield Circe was generating.
He'd let his shock slow his reaction time - stupid - and her return strike knocked him back and away from her. He rolled back to his feet and took an instant to regain his balance. Well. If she could shake off injury, this might be pointless, but it didn't mean he was about to give up. "That almost hurt," he said, forcing his voice to stay even. "Good one."
This time, he only landed a glancing blow. Ferros growled in frustration, but the sense of him was growing hotter, some internal flame fed even by the light hit.

Ah, but Jordan was wrong. Candace had definitely felt the hit, and she definitely felt the pain, but with the second strike she found herself giggling. Ohhhh that one felt nice. It was like getting another hit of a drug. People on the outside didn't know what they were missing out! The solution to the world's drug problem was simple! Give them all this scythe! Haha! "Only almost~?" Candace smirked, her chest shaking with laughter she was trying to hold in. Of course that effort was useless as Ferros hit against one of her hands and smacked against her knuckles, causing her to hiss at first until she looked down to see the mark on her hand. Her knuckles were red, they probably even needed to see a life hunter after this, but other than that... Heh.
"Cute." She didn't give any warning as she struck out at him with the blade of the scythe, actually using the mud to slip closer to him. It was something she would have done with Atropos were she to use her instead of Circe, but while the effect was not the same it still helped her use the momentum of her body to swing that much harder.

It knocked him off his feet this time, sending him skidding a short distance along the wet grass. Damn! How was she hitting so hard? Stupid question; Circe was older and more powerful than Ferros or Atropos. Jordan picked himself up, hefting Ferros again. They weren't going to win this one, but he doubted Candace would let him concede, even if he wanted to.
"Circe," he called out, struck by a sudden thought. "Can you hear me? Do you know what you're doing to Candace? This isn't good for her." He took a cautious step towards Candace, readying Ferros for another strike. "Atropos can't be happy about it, either." He watched Candace's eyes. This was probably going to piss Candace off something fierce, but he had to try. "Circe, if you really do like Candace, you should let her fight with Atropos."
Ferros rumbled agreement in his mind, a building force of wordless fury.
Jordan aimed deliberately for the scythe this time. If he could knock Circe out of Candace's hands, maybe the loss of contact would help. ... Or make her angrier; that could happen too. It was worth a shot anyway.

Candace readied herself to strike at Jordan again when he suddenly called out Circe's name. She blinked, looking down at the scythe to see what would happen. What wasn't good for her? Making her feel powerful wasn't good for her? Making her nigh invincible wasn't good for her? Look at him! She'd hit him three times and he was clearly losing to her! Imagine if he wasn't a fellow trainee! She could go wild killing one of those freaks. She snorted and rolled her eyes as Jordan continued to try and reason with Circe. Seriously? This was pathetic.
"Blah blah blah blah blah. Boooooriiiiing~." Candace mocked him, narrowing her eyes. His hammer came up and glanced the corner of Circe's blade where it connected with the handle and she gasped, wide eyes settling on the scythe as she brought it close to pet it.
"Ohhhh nonono! Are you okay? I'm sorry he hit you! Ohhhh, Circe. Are you hurt? My poor baby. I won't let him hurt you again, I promise." She cooed to the scythe like a hurt pet. Atropos snarled savagely at Candace's behavior. Candace couldn't hear it, especially not as she gave the scythe another long swing. He hurt Circe, she was going to hurt Ferros. She aimed for the hammer this time, the energy blade scraping against the metal of Ferros' hammer head.

Ferros snarled as the scythe scraped along his metal, sounding an unpleasant screech. Then, reluctantly, he said, Jordan ... she's draining me.
I know. Pretty soon it's gonna hurt a lot more when she hits me, huh. Aloud, he asked, "What are you going to do when you have to give her back?" Then he lunged in, swinging at Circe again, trying to get in a solid enough blow to knock the scythe away. But without much hope; Candace was clinging too tightly.

That was a good question! "I'll give her back when I'm ready. There's no telling how long our precious leader will be bedridden. I doubt he can force me to return her without physically getting to me." Candace laughed, actually using Circe to block the blow this time..or she would have if she had had a quicker reaction time. The hammer hit her in the arm and she stumbled back, dropping the scythe to hold her shoulder. <********>. That hurt. A foot was placed on Circe's handle while she took a moment to regain her composure.
She was quick about picking Circe up again though. She couldn't let him take her. Jordan was just jealous, that was totally it. He wanted Circe for himself because of how well she was doing. That was the only explanation here.
Jordan couldn't have her. Candace would see to that with yet another swing, aimed for the very things that would ruin this for her: Jordan's arms.

The blade slashed diagonally down along Jordan's arm, catching at his wrist and jolting his grip loose; he took an involuntary hissing breath as the joint wrenched painfully. Ferros roared protest in Jordan's head as he began to fall, but Jordan pulled, unsummoning Ferros barely long enough to let the ring form on his hand and then summoning the weapon again, the haft rematerializing firmly in his palm.
"I'll bet there's a way," he answered Candace, gritting his teeth against the pain in his wrist. "After all, she's not yours."
If she could aim to disable, so could he; this time Ferros swung in at her leg.

Candace laughed at how pathetically Jordan had to work at keeping his weapon held. What a fool! He seriously thought he could beat her?! "Right now she is." She said smugly, shrieking with pain the moment the hammer made contact with her leg and sent her to the ground.
She growled and made one more swing, this time hooking the blade around behind Jordan's calves and pulling it out from under him. That's what you get.

Jordan couldn't dodge the low sweep of the scythe in time. The blade bit into the leather upper of his boot and pulled his feet out from under him; he saw stars briefly as the back of his head hit the ground hard. Funny how much even muddy ground could hurt, he reflected dazedly. He lay flat for a moment, winded. It took more effort this time to pull himself to his knees, then his feet; the dual ache in his wrist and head threatened to make him dizzy enough to fall again. Somehow, he'd avoided twisting his ankle when he fell. Small blessings.
He wasn't going to get another chance at this. One more time. He saved his breath for the effort of his swing.

"Heh. Not so tough now, huh?" Candace grunted and stood, pulling herself up with the scythe again and using it as a large walking stick until she was able to support herself on just one leg. Okay. She could do this. She grunted, using the scythe's handle to brace herself for the next attack. She was done playing nice. Jordan was so determined to make her give back the scythe! Caelius said she could borrow it! He said!
She had to stop him. Now she meant business. Candace put all of her power behind this one last swing. It had to count. It just had to.

It hurt this time. He'd tried to move back and away, but the tip of the blade caught across his collarbone, sliced down and to the side, the force of the blow throwing him to the ground. The pain and the impact were more than enough to send him spinning into the darkness behind his eyelids.
The wound wasn't deep enough to kill, but blood seeped into the torn fabric of his shirt and coat, staining it red.

Candace blinked, slowly tilting her head to one side and just staring down at Jordan. She nudged him with her foot once, twice and finally a third time. No response.
...Boring.
Huffing in disappointment, Candace watched as Circe desummoned herself. "Circe, he won't play anymore." She sighed, reaching out for the floating eye. "Let's go. We'll find someone new to play with you."
She walked away from the bleeding body of Jordan without a second thought.

Robert hadn't been watching.
If anyone said he had, he would have punched them straight in the face. If he had been watching, of course he would have stopped the fight before his boss fell to this bitches blade. He wouldn't have stayed back, watching, and waiting until the fight was over to come out, drop to his knee, and slide his hands underneath the bloodied Phoenix.
No, he'd just been walking by at the right time.
Robert stood up, carrying Jordan as gently as he could in his arms, and pulled him against his chest. His eyes narrowed as he watched - still breathing, thank God. But just barely.
His eyes glared at the spot Candace had been standing.
"Christ, Jerry." Robert whispered to himself. "Why you gotta fall for the wicked b***h of the west."
Shuddering with rage, he hugged his boss tight against his chest as he carried the bloodied man back inside to get some help.
