Micah tossed her head back and laughed her first, really good laugh since she moved here. It was high, it was musical, and it racked her whole body until Micah's eyes were wet with mirth.
"Oh dear," Micah sighed, wiping her eyes with her napkin. "Next you're going to be some time traveling physician who spends her off hours saving civilizations and conquering empires.” And Keren might as well have been with the way she went on and on with the Doctor Who references. Micah only beamed happily and nodded in her understanding. “It goes without saying that the whale would behave differently. It’s not even really a whale is it? Just whale-shaped.”
At the question about her salad, Micah beamed again. “Oh, it’s fantastic. I love feta, and this thing has like a feta party going on up in its lettus.” And it was true. Micah would be hard pressed to get a bite of salad without the cheese on it. Not that she’d want to. “And this poppyseed dressing is fabulous. You want a try?”

"That's the plan," smiled Keren primly. Although she personally thought she was already more akin to Rory or Jack with her super not-dying skills. "And I guess it was too much to ask for a benevolent whale-shaped alien?" Apparently. Although Keren was over it and mostly happy to have her feet back on planet earth. If she never went back to the Surrounding again, she'd be okay with it. (Alternately, if she did go back, she would want a proper warning so that she could pack appropriately.)
"No, no, that's okay," answered Keren, declining the salad with a quick shake of her head. "I'm so lactose intolerant it's not even funny. Like, the Doctor has the Master and Luke Skywalker has the Sith and the Homestuck kids have Jack Noir and I have dairy products." It would be exactly forty-five seconds between the moment the cheese passed her lips to the time she was overcome with stomach cramps. Keren had timed it once in the name of science and then decreed, Never Again.
Her spoon scraped the bottom of her soup bowl. Keren checked her watch. It was getting regrettably close to the end of her lunch period, and even if her next class was independent study, she still had to get checked into the lab. Not to mention Keren didn't want to miss her chance to use the DNA spinner. "I'm actually almost out of time," she said regretfully, pulling her over-decorated and very expensive smartphone out of her bag. "How about I give you my number and we hang out later?"

Micah nodded in understanding. "I'm the same way with orange juice. I get the worst acid reflux from it. It's been known to make me cry. One sip and I'm pretty much useless. I've tried everything for it, the maximum dosage of every medicine avalible, ice, water, milkk, bread... all I can do is wait it out." However, that has not stopped Micha from downing a glass if it was freshly squeezed. Which is often around her house. Her mother did so love fresh juices. Marcia's most prized posession was the state of the art juicer that he got her on thier first aniversiry. It had since got out of date, but that did not stop her from loving it all the same.
Micah checked her watch at the mention of time. It was about time for her to get back home, too. Her mother was sure to start worrying if she missed her mid day call. Not that it really affected her meal. She'd downed the salad in record time, the deliciousness of it making her lose track of her bites. No doubt she had some dressing on her lips. She licked it off and wiped around her mouth gently witha grin.
"Absolutley. Maybe next time we'll have more time to talk." Micah fished around for a pen and scribbled her information down on it. "I said I'd cover lunch, so if you wanna jam so you won't be late, that's fine." Micah beamed as she handed over her number to the other girl, for some reason sincerley hoping that they would meet up again. Normally it was just a formality but this... Micah pushed aside the strange stirring in her stomach.

Keren programmed the number into her contacts file with lightning-fast fingers and sent Micah a quick text just to prove that she had. "The truth is out there! KDB it proclaimed, "Let me buy next time, it's only fair," said the girl, grinning giddily. And maybe next time she'd get to braid Micah's awesome hair? One could only hope.
Dropping her phone back into her bag, she wiggled her fingers at Micah in a small little wave. "Okay, okay, toodles fo real this time," emphasized Keren, pulling her bag over her shoulder and hurrying out of the restaurant.
She was already thinking of what witty text she could send to Micah next.
