"Oh, I see..." Clarice was also trying very hard to school her expression. The one that asked, Why are you trying to ruin my life? "So that's what happened, that's great." There was always the possibility that the trainee's memories had been tampered with, but...there had been a couple things in the past few days that indicated that her memories were the ones tampered with. Along with the doctor's and a number of techs' as well.
It was slightly grating, the idea that a trainee would know more about events than she did. She dropped a candy into another tank, only noticing a moment afterward that is was another little doll thing. She bit off a soft curse, stupid dolls. "The Soul Harvester could manipulate the fabric of reality," she began explaining, as much to herself as to Ariane. "In my version of events she broke our barrier, and you guys entered into the fight but left soon after. We had to call another Hunter squad to defend the base camp. There wasn't any time for pendants, or traps, or...Barths."
She paused, curious, "How did they work out anyway? The traps?"

"They have the ability to do that?" That was really disturbing; the Soul Harvester... She was sure that was the thing that they were after from the start, "Wait... Ah... We were called away by Caelius." She remembered that part - at least, if they were talking about the same thing.
"They worked great, actually," She grinned, resuming the task of feeding the minipets, "When one of them landed on it? BOOM. They explode into nothing. The sad thing was that the room tossed us around, so a few from my group landed on some of the traps we had planted. It apparently hurt really bad." She shrugged, unable to speak from experience.

The hunter visibly perked up at the news, "A nice clean nothing? No parts and gore?" Beyond the trainee casualties of course, but they all made it back, so the traps couldn't have hurt them that badly. She couldn't help but sigh a bit wistfully over the house, though. "I wish I could have gone in there, the accounts for the different rooms are so varied, it sounds like a pretty amazing place."
She came up to a particularly rotund little unicorn...thing, and fed it a candy, muttering under her breath, "Killer unicorn my a**."

"Not that I remember, no," She stroked her chin thoughtfully, hugging the box to her chest with her other hand, "They just explode into nothing. Pretty useful." Not that most of them looked like they were in any condition to put up a fight against them.
"Amazing? The only room we got to experience before we were whisked off to play 'shoot and capture a specimen' with Caelius consisted of walking on thin ice and being dropped into icy cold water if you took a wrong step. Then again, Harrison did come back with a mustache..." Okay, pretty amazing.

Absently petting the happy little unicorn, Clarice had a faraway look in her eye as Ariane described the room. Could she do that? She hadn't tried working with ice before, but some of the cave systems on the island had pretty unique properties. "I'm pretty sure I could replicate it...not the mustache, of course, " simply because facial hair lacked the right sort of impact the assistant preferred, and Harrison had ended up looking like a cross between B-movie and bad porn. Actually, that whole team and their odd costumes...if the rooms shifted according to the people in them, what exactly did that say about those three? "But I wonder if there's a few other rooms we could duplicate here?"
She smiled brightly at the other woman, in a way that did not bode well for any future candidates or training courses. "Thanks for letting me know."

Ariane wasn't sure how she felt about the life hunter at this point in time, mostly because she was sure that Clarice had been exposed to too much 'H radiation'. Then again, most hunters she had met weren't exactly 'normal' by... 'Normal' standards.
"Oh?" She was done with that particular row of minipets and was walking back, stopping to stare at the thing Clarice was petting, "Cute in a punched-in-face kind of way." Ariane approved of the derp-unicorn thing.
"You are most welcome," She put the box of left over fear candy down before walking over to a random cage, spotting... A floating collar? She shrugged, leaning against the roll of cages, "I look forward to seeing what you come up with~"

The smile twitched into a smirk, as Clarice refrained from mentioning that Death trainees would probably be the first to test any new areas. It looked like the feeding was pretty much covered, "Right then, good job, trainee. Now...there's cleaning supplies in the closet, if you have to clean up after something burn-y or bitey there's handling gloves in there as well. Any questions?"

Ariane decided she liked this woman, even if she didn't like the look of that smirk on her face.
"And this is why I never wanted a pet," She shook her head at the question, looking around for the closet - which was quickly found, "They must stay in the cage to survive, right?" Wouldn't want to accidentally kill one, after all.

"Oh, they can leave the cage for a little awhile, but if left out for too long, they start to lose shape. It's...slightly disgusting at first, especially if they get all melty, because they don't die right away, and so they'll be all slowly coming apart and just staring up at you with big, sad eyes..." Clarice's gaze became slightly distant, "...like they're asking you, Why? Why is this happening and why won't you fix it?"
Clarice wasn't much of a pet person either, as they had a habit of dying and leaving her forever alone. Minipets were, if anything, worse than regular ones. She'd only named one once.
Rest in peace, Flamey McBadass.

"I'll... Be sure to keep that in mind," She muttered, grabbing a pair of handling gloves because no way she was touching any of those things with her bare hands. Pulling them on and grabbing what looked like something , she approached the thing Clarice had been petting - the unicorn derp thing.
"Now..." As gently as she could - which took way more effort than not staring at Caelius' new look - she moved the minipet to a corner of the cage, holding it there with one gloved hand. She then begun cleaning the glass with her other hand; it soon became obvious that Ariane was not used to cleaning up after others.
And maybe herself.

Blinking away the horrible, tragic memories, Clarice just kind of stood back and observed Ariane's performance. Yes, yes good, the trainee was indeed cleaning. The assistant was not. Excellent job, Ariane. You are a goddamn pro. She did give a word of caution, "Be careful with that one, wouldn't want team Killer Unicorn to lose their mascot."
She paused a moment. She should do something right now, what was it...oh yeah.
"You're doing well, Ariane!" Positive reinforcement.

"Team Killer Unicorn?" She had to laugh at the name - number one, it was ironic since a unicorn probably belonged to Halloween and it's like calling themselves 'Team Killer insert mystical creature of the night here' and number two, a unicorn? Really? Of all the things?
She looked at the derpy thing; at least the mascot was fitting.
"Thanks," Her voice was strained, like she was talking through clenched teeth, before she paused, suddenly tossing a cloth in Clarice's direction, "And thanks for your help~"

Clarice's smile has turned slightly smug until the cloth went flying toward her, goddamnit. "Well, you're always welcome to receive whatever help my knowledge and experience can offer." Despite that she very pointedly left out anything close to manual labour, the Life Hunter turned to the nearest tank to actually do her part. It was one of the bunny things. With the badwrong mouth, tongue, and teeth. Also from the looks of things, it had been having some stomach issues. "You should try the Life Arena sometime," she encouraged lightly, "I think you'd really enjoy it."
It wasn't that she disliked the trainee, far from it, but just at this moment? She kind of wanted to draw a poo on the girl's forehead for not meekly acting like a newbie drudge. In the end it was a good thing but...
Clarice glanced at the next cage and made a face.

"That is a very generous offer. I shall have to remember that," She grinned, finishing up with the unicorn derp's cage and closing the hatch, making sure it was secure since... She really did not want to turn around to come face to face with a melting unicorn derp, with its heart-shaped irises and cross-eyed eyes...
"Life arena?" She seemed to consider it, looking thoughtful as she moved onto the next cage; the death arena's instructions reminded her of something she had to go through when she was still a hunter candidate, which was one of the reasons why she hadn't actually tried it yet... If it had a giant yellow smiley face painted on the wall, she was going to punch the nearest person in the face.
The cage she was cleaning held something that looked like a ball of fluff with ears, four short limbs and an equally fluffy tail... The cutest, most normal looking thing she had seen so far, despite it's unnaturally colored fur.
... Although it seemed determined to lick her face, causing her to twitch and pin it against the side of the cage. Suddenly it seemed easier to be gentle, despite the constant yipping and squirming from the fluff thing.

"Mmmm yep, our training course, definitely not for the weak of will." Clarice used her own to will away the memory of the past few couple tanks, as she moved onto clean up...rainbows. Pop-tart cats. Just what even the hell. She glanced over at the foxfire, "Some of them really can be all adorable and affectionate, but...be careful of the once that are a little bit too affectionate. Especially the tentacle things."
Clarice wore her coveralls in here for a number of reasons, and tentacle things were very much one of them.
