Celsus arched a brow, giving Remarque a mildly disdainful expression.
"I said I'd let you live," he said calmly. "I didn't say I wouldn't kill you. There's a difference."
The old Celsus was beginning to return, sparks of amusement clearly evident in his eyes as he gave a glance towards the other, sliding his hands into his pockets. His chest was still aching painfully - not that he would ever admit it - and there was the taste of blood in his mouth from accidentally biting his tongue on impact.
"Just because I said I'd let you live doesn't necessarily mean that the only other option would be to kill you. I don't do that sort of thing."
He lifted a hand pushing sweat dampened bangs away from his face and slanted a look up at the sky, staring at the tiny pinpricks of the stars above his head. It smelled like rain - there would be a shower, eventually, but for now it was the calm before the storm, a gentle breeze brushing across his face.
Celsus' eyes moved back to Remarque's, still holding that calm facade, a smile playing on his lips.
"Figure out that puzzle for yourself."

There wasn’t much of a puzzle to figure out, Remarque figured. Either Celsus killed him or he didn’t; Remarque wasn’t foolish enough to, say, wander in front of a bus and let himself be killed, and he couldn’t fathom a situation where he’d need Celsus’ help to prevent death. Still, Celsus’ words made him suspicious, and he found himself mentally retracing what conversation he could remember that hadn’t already dulled.
“You wouldn’t kill me? …You tell yourself that as much as you need to,” the blonde mused; Celsus certainly wasn’t his idea of a good time, but now that they’d worked out what manly urges to beat the s**t out of something, he found him slightly more bearable. “One day, you’ll slip up. Or someone will push you too far. I’ll be interested to see how long you can hide behind those lies, Freckles.”
Everyone had their breaking point, and Celsus’ had become a sudden fascination of Remarque’s . He didn’t know who the male in front of him was, other than a pain in his a**, but everything about Celsus made Remarque want to see him fail.

He laughed, shaking his head.
"I think you're reading too much into this," said Celsus, with genuine amusement. "I don't kill people, despite what you might think. It's too easy for you to assume that I do, so you cling to that belief in order to paint a prettier picture of yourself in the process."
Remarque was giving him a dubious look, and the musings were not far off. Celsus himself knew that there was a breaking point somewhere - but, then again, there was a breaking point in every human being, whether they were of the White Moon, or lost in darkness.
Clearly Remarque's breaking point was easier to find, since the other had a temper...
"Perhaps." Celsus shrugged, his shoulders rising and falling. "But I'm afraid now is not that time. I'm tired."
He turned around, his back to the other, but something told him Remarque would not try to attack him again - not this time. Walking a few paces away, it was only after a moment that Celsus stopped again, turning his head over his shoulder.
"By the way...I like the nickname."
Smirking, he disappeared back into the shadows.

It was quite possible that Remarque had been reading too far into the situation from the very beginning, but he wasn’t going to chastise himself for taking it all a bit seriously. He very much wanted to see the knight suffering in some way, and even though their battle was over for tonight, Remarque had no doubt that they’d cross paths again in the future.
Getting knocked around wasn’t so fun, but repaying the blows and exchanging insults? Almost sounded like fun. Celsus was the biggest challenge he’d had yet when it came to fighting, but that wasn’t saying much given that Remarque’s usual fights consisted of squabbling with small children and playing mind games with some Super senshi.
He watched as Celsus left, rather glad when the redhead disappeared from sigh. He released a breath he hadn’t been entirely aware he’d been holding and slouched a bit against the tree. He reached a hand up to rub at his sore face, irritated at himself for getting hit as much as he was annoyed with Celsus’ for actually landing it.
Twice he’d run into this page, and still had no idea who the hell he was fighting. If Freckles liked his name, fine. Remarque still didn’t quite like the nickname ‘Poppet’, but of all the pointless things he could pick a fight over, that wasn’t at the top of his list.
Not knowing exactly where Celsus had gone off to after disappearing—and not knowing if he was still in the area—Remarque wasn’t going to stick around for any longer than he had to. Tired from the battle—and now very sore—he pushed off from the tree again and started off to find a mirror to get him home.
