"You have been lucky, some are apparently. At worst I've met one who was rather...full of herself, enjoyed inflicting a panic attack upon a person, she saw it as karma come round to bite them in the backside." Obviously he was talking about something which had happened to himself. Some senshi were tolerable whilst others seemed to enjoy whatever damage they could inflict upon the enemy, it was no walk in the park and he was learning that and suffering from it.

"Tell me...what you were told as a fill in...?" He asked, hopeful. He knew he couldn't avoid answer the others last question, as much as he wished he could.

Falling silent his eyes, even his head, went up to look up at the night sky. "Two of the stars up there..." Pointing upward slowly. "I've snuffed out...and one civilian. I have done what I never wanted to in this war...but it seems that no matter the morals we go in with we cannot avoid certain things." Try as they might, try as e had. It had happened, again and again and it would happen again at some point. But not now, not any time soon. He couldn't go back in to fighting now, not with sightless eyes still filling his dreams. But one night he would have to fight again...and kill.

Dropping his hand to his side, his arm seemingly having gone limp. "I may have killed...but I will never become like them." No, he would never drop to that level. He would see to that. He was doing that now and would continue to insure that it never somehow happened.

Younger and yet as he looked to the older it was Benotite who seemed perhaps a touch older, and like he had done something which had damaged him, his spirit, in some way.

"It is because this is war, and our enemy is willing to do such things, that we all much keep safe and become as strong as we can." A smile, forced, as he leg his arms come across his chest.

The senshi were clearly not as innocent as they liked to pretend; Remarque’s eyes followed where Benitoite had been pointing. If there were stars missing in the sky, they weren’t stars he recognized or was missing. Looking up at the sky like this, standing next to the Negaverse Captain—it was just odd. When he lowered his eyes at the end of Benitoite’s words, he took note of the male’s appearance.

On any given day, he might not have thought much of the smaller male’s appearance, but either it was the conversation, or the way the light shone down on his face—or maybe it was just something that he’d missed, before, when taking in the Benitoite’s expression, the way he looked…

It was a bit unsettling.

“That makes you the better man, then,” he said; he could understand doing whatever was necessary in the name of war—for the greater good; he didn’t know what he would or wouldn’t be able to do if it came down to it. Could he torture someone? Would it ever come to that?

He shook his head. “We got the basic lay down, not enough information past what you seem to know. Benitoite,” he said, addressing the male by name thoughtfully. He’d killed before—and it clearly seemed to bother the male next to him. If Jett had to guess, he’d have assumed that the he seemed weighed down by the kills, but he couldn’t exactly be certain. “…Why do you do it? The whole…Negaverse thing.”

"Freedom, for myself and those who cannot fight weather due to age or whatever other reason. Should the white moon win and the Queen of the moon rise...it would be like it once was. The story I was told was of a Queen who wanted those of Earth to be second class citizens to those of her Moon Kingdom. The citizens, civilians with no power, rose up against her in revolt and she struck them down. The youma....they were once those people, who fought her." It was why he cared for the youma, they had fought against her; with honor. They did not deserve to be killed so matter of factly by senshi.

"I fight in the hopes to keep the senshi from ever finding her, waking her, or what have you. I wish for this war to end, for the senshi to drop this war and return to space...to leave Earth to us here. But seeing as they are not about to do that I fight to keep the past from happening again." His reason was honorable, pure. It was for nothing dishonest or purely for himself.

"It's that simple, for me." But the fighting, the killing, the battles. None of those things were simple, they were hard on him and he was suffering. He had to just...find a way to get through it and come out at the end, somehow.

"I will always strive to be better than those senshi of the white moon." He wouldn't let himself ever sink to the level some of them had sunk to. But killing...that was something both sides done it was something which seemed casual for some. It was something he hadn't been ready to commit, it had been too soon.

His eyes shifted to look about them both, searching for people who could give energy to the cause. There were always people around who could give a little, or a lot.

For the moment, Remarque had forgotten entirely about finding someone to drain of energy. He had been completely enthralled at Benitoite’s story. The whole concept was novel to him; it sounded like it could have been something out of a child’s storybook, and yet he took it completely seriously. The male before him had no reason to lie, and the pieces seemed to fit together and make sense.

“You seem very noble,” he noted; while he was still questioning his purpose within the Dark Moon Court, Benitoite seemed to have made up his mind on what he was fighting for and had been deeply moved in the fight for his cause; in a way, it was inspirational. Remarque understood, for the most part, what he was doing, but he hadn’t been involved for long enough to be so passionate about what he was doing. “…I hadn’t heard that story,” he confessed after a moment, crossing his arms over his chest.

Bits and pieces of a history that seemed too fantastical to be real were slowly coming together to give him a bigger idea of this whole world he’d gotten involved in. At the very least, his opinion of the White Moon senshi soured further; he neither appreciated nor sympathized with them, and willing them all back to space didn’t sound like a terrible idea to him if it meant this world would be safe. He wasn’t as selfless in his beliefs as Benitoite, though it wasn’t hard to understand the Captain’s perspective. “Are all those in the Negaverse as altruistic as you, or are you just a special breed?”

Slight movement out of the corner of his eye and the scuffle of shoes on pavement from one of the nearby alleyways told him that if he had wanted to find someone to drain, there was someone very obviously nearby, though in no rush, he didn’t jump haphazardly at the opportunity to collect more information for fear of seeming too eager in the Captain’s eyes.

"Thank you." Though he didn't think of it as being noble, he saw it was being just and fair. Freedom was something all people had and should never have taken from them, especially by those who were not from here.

"It was a story I was told before I joined and more in depth after I did so. The one who brought me in told me it right after and showed me the ruined capitol of Earth, it's remains." He had no reason to not believe what he'd been told, not when he'd been shown what he had been. And yet senshi continued on thinking they simply followed orders and didn't think on their own. That was as untrue as saying the sky was neon green. He thought for himself and made his choices on his own, even when pressured he supposed the choice was still in the end his own.

"I again heard the story from General Painite, as I asked her to confirm it all. I had no reason to disbelieve what I was told the first time, but I find it best to make sure it all checks out." And it had, two people and proof. He believed it, with an unwavering loyalty to the story and it's authenticity.

"I would like to say yes but I don't know everyone so I can't say that and people are people, we are all different. So I'll leave it as: everyone has a reason to fight, some vary from others while some people hold the same reasons as others. So perhaps I'm in a minority but not special."

He too heard the scuffle and stopped for a moment. "I'll allow you this drain, unless it's two people than we each get one." A smile twisted his pale lips as they were brought up into a mischievous smile. "Does that sound palatable to you?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 07, 2011 5:17 pm

A slow smirk grew on Remarque’s face “Not as palatable as a steak, but it sounds pretty good to me. The next one will be yours.” Though he was enjoying the conversation with Benitoite, the cold was really starting to get to him. He wasn’t entirely sure if he should just jump right into draining the energy; Remarque was unsure how much the Negaverse knew of the methods the Dark Mirror Senshi used to gather energy.

Though Benitoite had given indication that he was close to Leto—or, at least, close enough that he was offering to keep his eyes out for her senshi—he supposed that the Negaverse must have at least some understanding of the practices of the Dark Mirror Court, so didn’t imagine that their method of draining energy was going to be some surprising new information.

It helped that he felt a little more comfortable about Benitoite, given that he had been willing to share information and discuss things with Remarque from early on. Drawing out the mirror shard, he didn’t waste much time in walking down the alley.

To his knowledge, he saw only one older looking male clinging to the wall. Another drunk; Remarque wasn’t surprised. It wasn’t exactly a challenge, but at least he didn’t have to worry about looking bad in front of the Negaverser.

The wraith drew out of the shard and made its way to the man; Remarque didn’t have to command it. Because he’d never drained in front of an audience, he was a bit more on edge despite the fact that Benitoite didn’t seem to be wanting to cause any trouble.

”What does the Negaverse collect energy for?” he asked, eyes still locked on the wraith draining the older man. It was clear it wasn’t having much difficulty; the man had fallen to his knees and barely seemed aware of what was happening, anyway. He understood why he needed to collect energy for his faction, and though the Negaverse and the Dark Mirror Court were fighting together, he understood that they were two very different groups—which meant that he still had a lot to learn about them.

He'd moved, slowly, to follow the other and watch just in case anything happen to go wrong. He wouldn't let the senshi leave his sight for long if he could help it, wanting to insure he didn't walk in to something which took him by surprise. It was always nice to also have someone watch and make sure no one came out of the shadows.

"Us...well to bring back the great youma we needed a lot of energy, and it's scattered remains. The youma live on the energy though...they need it to survive. I assume so does our General Queen, Tanzanite. I've heard she's part, or mostly, youma. Otherwise I can't say whatever other needs we have of it, but seeing as the youma fight with and for us I'd say that's the major reason." A light shrug of his shoulders as he stood waiting for the other to finish, watching how he drained energy. They didn't work in such a flashy manner, the Negaverse.

"And thank you, for allowing me the next person we happen across." A small bow of his head. "I don't know what your side needs the energy for, if you'd care to enlighten me?"

Remarque found himself amused that Benitoite was already thanking him when there wasn’t any guarantee that there was going to be someone else to drain, but he’d do his best to keep tonight fair for the both of them. Seeing no harm in answering Benitoite’s, he offered a small shrug in response. “For Ares. So we can continue fighting for our cause and support her in any way possible. I haven’t seen much of her in a while, though, so I couldn’t tell you exactly what the energy’s going for, right now. So far as I know, we’re not feeding anyone with it.”

Sans the basics, he couldn’t really be sure what the energy went for, nor how much they actually needed to collect for it to be of any substantial value.

Watching as the man in front of him collapsed in a heap to the ground, Remarque knew that his work was done when the mirror wraith moved to return to the shard. He held it out, letting it, and the energy it had collected, back into it’s little realm of safety. Pocketing the shard, he looked back to Benitoite.

He had learned much of the Negaverse during this conversation, and only wished he had more to offer in exchange. Still, he wasn’t going to lament because he knew less of the Dark Mirror Court than Benitoite did of the Negaverse; comparatively speaking, they were of entirely different ranks and power. He had learned a number of names that he made a mental note to seek what information he could on them. “Let’s go find you someone to drain so we’re squared off,” he said with a sturdy nod as he walked away from the unconscious male; he wasn’t about to make this evening unfair and just ditch now that he’d filled his self set nightly quota. He wasn’t worried about anyone finding the man—even in the daylight, he doubted someone was just going to stumble across him.

When was there never not someone else to drain? In a city like this it never truly slept, someone was always up and outside just waiting to be found, it was simply a matter of finding them. There were bars and clubs to skulk about and wait to grab someone, parks to find couples at. There was always somewhere to find someone, and it wasn't all that late either. The fact it wasn't all that late helped, a lot. The later it got the harder to find people, but it was still always possible.

Glancing from the senshi to the downed man he nodded and moved to follow, the man was fairly safe where he was. He doubted the man would wake to have no wallet, money, credit cards, or never wake at all. That was one thing about the Captain which perhaps set him apart from others, he did try to make sure those who donated energy to him were safe where he left them. This one seemed safe enough that he was comfortable in leaving him to himself. "Indeed." A nod of his blond head. Hopefully it wouldn't be long until they found someone, likely it wouldn't be. Though he suspected as winter drew closer, and the evenings became more chill, it would be harder to find people out and about. It was why he'd been tinkering with the idea of...mall shopping, to make it sound innocent. It wouldn't be all too hard, his uniform fit in fairly well compared to some other peoples. Though if some civilian, who was really a senshi he knew, saw him then things could become very complicated and even dangerous for civilians and himself. He'd work the logistics of this all out as it became colder out, and the malls stayed open longer and later.

"You energy gathering, how much concentration or focus does it take?" He asked suddenly, as the thought came in to being in his mind. "I'm curious, seeing as it does take some from us, sometimes more than one would like to give to such a thing." Since focusing on one thing could leave you open, sometimes very open, in a place you wouldn't want to be. It was a bit of a risk. "And if your mirror is broken is the energy let out and returned to the person?" Another question which quickly came up, and was subsequently blurted out.

It wasn't down an alley that he heard a person but rather as they rounded a corner he nearly smacked right into some woman, wearing flats as he noted quickly. Hopefully she hadn't heard him speaking, it didn't seem so but that could be due to how startled she was at the near collision. She was bent down, picking a bag up, and the spilled contents of said bag. Bending down, under the pretense of helping her gather her things, he flashed an all too charming smile while one hand reached out toward her. Not quite touching he started his own energy draining. Focusing on the task at hand he watched the energy leave her and collect in his own hand as a small, warm, glowing orb of light. She seemed started and tried to scramble away but he was on her rather quickly. He'd learned to not fear or worry over whatever position he may find himself in, and rather quickly pinned her down as he pushed her to lay on her back as he finished what he was doing, leaving her an unconscious mess of tangled curls of dark hair, parted lips, and slightly spread legs. The energy though was shown for a moment to the senshi before it was put into an inside pocket of his coat. He was nice enough to collect her papers and put them back into her bag for her. No need to assist in littering the city, there was enough of that as it was, and who knows how important those papers were. When he stood he nudged her legs closed and turned to the senshi, waiting to see if he said or asked anything.

Entranced by the method in which Benitoite gathered energy, Remarque was a little jealous. It seemed much simpler—and didn’t require the use of some ugly little mirror wraith.

But.

Benitoite clearly took a much different approach to the whole thing than he did; he seemed to genuinely care for the woman he had drained energy from, while Remarque had cared little for anyone he’d ever introduced to a mirror wraith. Albeit, perhaps things would have been different if he’d happened upon a woman, though Remarque doubted he’d have been as compassionate towards a female just because of her gender.

Though he had no intention of avoiding the Negaverser’s question, neither did he want to interrupt the ritual the man performed. It wasn’t an entirely altruistic action either, though; he also wanted to make sure he didn’t miss anything.

His assumption that Benitoite was noble was not swayed by such a display; he had only reinforced the concept by his tender treatment of the woman.

“I had a hard time summoning the wraith at first,” he said, shrugging indifferently; there was no shame in admitting such and he wasn’t going to claim to be perfect at everything. “But it all worked out. Took a minute or two to concentrate enough to summon it, but it comes, does it’s job, and goes, so I don’t have to do much other than call it out and take care of the shard. Which,” his hand subconsciously went to cover the pocket it was tucked away in, “Is necessary to keep safe. To my knowledge, if the mirror breaks, you’re screwed and lose everything, and then it’s a big pain in the a** to get another one and is just generally something I’d rather not deal with.”

He didn’t want to give the Court any trouble—or, at least, didn’t want to give the impression that he was more trouble than he was worth. Remarque once more refrained from the urge to rub his arms for warmth; tonight had been a very fulfilling night, so he wasn’t going to complain—unless he caught a ******** cold.

"I see, so a similar consequence and yet different." He said giving a bit of a smile. He had never been shy to speak of why he'd joined the Negaverse and he didn't shy away from showing compassion to those he borrowed energy from. They were the civilians he fought for after all, why treat the people you fought for badly? It wouldn't make sense. Another reason was wanting to be able to use people over again, if he came across them, for energy collection. You lost people, supply, if you killed them off or someone else did due to you carelessly leaving them all about.

Thinking over what he'd learned tonight he found it interesting, all of it really. He knew there were things this senshi didn't know or didn't have complete knowledge on. That didn't matter really. These were things he'd not asked Leto, though if he thought about it he should have at some point.

He didn't need to call in this unconscious woman, she was out in the open and someone would easily find her and call her in. It wasn't too late in the evening, people would find her. If it were later, darker, and in an area that wasn't residential he'd be powering down in an alleyway and calling in the unconscious woman for an ambulance so he knew she was safe and also wouldn't freeze to death.

Remarque nodded in agreement, still carefully watching Benitoite. The differences between their two factions were still vast to him, though there were similarities that he would not deny—nor had any reason to. There was a reason they were allies—even if it had stemmed from them both having the same enemy. Whatever doubt Remarque might have had about the Negaverse had been successfully eased away by the evening with Benitoite, and while he disliked being rude, he also knew that his body was very ready to turn in and that it was nearing time to part ways.

“Benitoite,” he addressed, giving him a curt nod. “This talk with you has been enlightening. I appreciate you taking the time to speak with me. You’ve left me with a favoriable impression of the Negaverse. It’s getting late, I—“

He wasn’t sure he wanted to reveal too much information about his personal life, so he just finished with, “I’ve got a busy day tomorrow, so I’ll probably head home now. But. It was nice meeting you. Take care of yourself, all right? I think I’ll look forward to running into you again in the future.”

He’d been good company—and it was comforting to know that someone was watching your back. He made a mental note to himself to go out and collect energy with company more often; it certainly helped pass the time and was a good excuse for social interaction, aside from just safety in numbers and all that jazz.

"Of course, have a good evening and a safe way home." He spoke sincerely as glanced about. "I still have a bit longer to be out, more energy to collect." He tended to call in fairly late, it was one reason he did look worn out, more so in the morning.

"Perhaps we can do this again." He did like to have company, though it was rare that he did. It was good for safety reasons but also a good way to spend the time between gathering energy. "I am glad I was able to shed some light on to things and make us look favorable to you. I hope no one tarnishes your opinion of us." He didn't want someone to do something to make the other dislike the Negaverse, but given how diverse the members where it was possible - anything was.

"Between tonight, and whenever we next meet, keep safe. I would not like hearing you've been hurt by those of the white moon." Smiling up at the other before giving a small, short, wave and turning to head on his own way, he had his duties to fulfill tonight.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 09, 2011 3:05 pm

Though Remarque might have felt a bit guilty about just ditching while Benitoite still had work to do, his own health took priority over keeping company. Cold and tired, he was more than ready to be home. Despite it all, though, Benitoite had left him with a very favorable impression, so the idea to keep company with him again actually appealed to Remarque.

He had no idea of how to contact him or anything of the like, but if it was meant to be, it would happen. Benitoite’s formality and poised nature boded well with him; the male seemed classy and of good taste. In his mind Remarque had related him to some sort of nobility in the way he carried himself and his manner of speaking—and Remarque liked it.

He gave Benitoite one last look before he turned and went on his own way, intent to get home before he met up with less than pleasant company.
