"That's alright, I haven't done this since I was your age, probably. So you could be hustling me and I would never be the wiser. Not that you would need to. This will probably be a very easy victory for you, either way."
He laughed, but seemed not to mind and was still very willing to play. He did not mind the challenge, if it was for the better cause of taking Ever's mind off whatever it was that troubled him. He didn't need to know the cause, just help do what Ever had come to him for.
That's what friends did.
"I think it is part of the rules to at least be half drunk, if not fully, before starting a game, though," he said, watching as Ever started the game. He took a drink, shaking his head as it burned all the way down. He grinned. "At least, I do remember that much whenever I did play. If it's not an official rule, it should be."

"I've barely been drinking recently..." Things too crazy; too much time spent with Zac. Enough that Ever hadn't realized his virtual prohibition. Instead of drinking, he'd found himself stumbling into Zac's to curl up in his bed -- or, worse yet, working. He rubbed at his eyes and downed another huge swallow, gesturing for Tony to take his turn.
"...make up for lost time tonight." It was mumbled, into the glass, his eyes flicking away and then back onto Tony, mouth shifting in an uncertain way. He didn't know if he wanted to just drink or if he wanted to -- well. Who knew.
"I'm betting dollars to donuts you don't want to hear about my boyfriend troubles." His tone was dry. Apprehensive. Straight men generally didn't.

Tony moved to take his turn. He frowned, tilting his head and looking at the pool table in wonder. It occurred to him that he literally had no idea what he was doing, but he tried anyway. At least he managed to hit the white ball, whatever it was called, but not much else.
He scratched at his head thoughtfully.
"Well, I remember this being a lot easier," he said, "so clearly my memory is less reliable than I thought."
He took a healthy swallow of his drink, enjoying himself. He was feeling calm, at least, though he hadn't been more tense than usual at the start. Still, it was interesting to see that his 'normal' level of tense was still rather profound. It was very nice, then, to just unwind.
"If you want to talk," he said, looking at him for a serious moment, warm green eyes settling on the younger man passively, "I'm certainly always willing to listen. It might be outside my realm of expertise to offer advice on, of course." He offered a smirk at that.

Ever didn't take his shot. Instead he dug the heels of his hands into his eyes again and tried to think. The issue with the situation, of course, was how tied in it was to the Negaverse; how would he explain to Tony the issues with promotions, with General-Kings, with boyfriends who maybe didn't quite qualify as human anymore?
Add to that the fact that Ever was thinking of Zac as 'boyfriend', and the world had entirely descended into chaos. Both literally and figuratively.
"Have you ever had a relationship with someone you worked for?" It was delicate, careful, dancing around the subject and trying to phrase it in everday terms. For all Tony knew, Ever had a second job. He could probably get away with that.

Tony coughed, shaking his head.
"Ah, no," he said, then looked thoughtful. He was already having some trouble thinking. He shook his head, leaning on the pool cue and tilting his head at Ever. "And I assume you don't mean me, eh?"
He had never really had much of a job before coming to the library, and even when he was younger and just starting there had not exactly been anyone date-able in the staff that had caught his eye. Plus, relationships, at that point, had far eluded him. A trend that had not lost much steam since then.
Growing a bit more serious and level headed, he motioned for Ever to continue, interested and even refraining from having any more alcohol for the moment, just to make sure he didn't addle himself further and prevent himself from being helpful in anyway, even as a listener.
"Are you having trouble?"

At least the suggestion it might be Tony got a flicker of a smile, even if it was distracted, worried. It'd be easier if it had been Tony. Tony was kind of a sucker. Zac, on the other hand, was far too clever for his own good -- and, in some ways, too fragile. Ever scraped a hand across one brow, thinking.
"I don't know. It's one thing, I guess, when someone actually has some power over you. I mean. I kind of had a thing...well, there was this teacher, at one point..." He waved that off, vague, as he finally stepped in to take his shot. Not terrible, but he didn't sink the second one. If he knew how little Tony understood about the game, he might have cheated, taken another shot. As it was, he just went for his drink.
"That was fine. It wasn't blurry. He was jerking my chain. This is different." He tipped the glass up, not quite meeting Tony's eyes. "There are no boundaries so I never know where we stand, and he just broke down what few boundaries I had managed to put up."
