That's when she felt it. That tingling sensation in her chest, like rising heat that feathered out and stretched up to her eyes. She could no longer flush from anger, but it didn't stop her body from recreating the feeling. Alien and weakened though it was, she recognized it, and her eyes turned to look at him with all the hardness she could muster.
"Do you know where the path you follow leads, soldier?" Her teeth grit as she watched him, but without a word she shifted, until she was sliding off the edge of the pillar.
She landed in a flurry of dreads and fabric, letting it all settle back around her shoulders as she found her footing on the floor of the arena. Her bright eyes stared up at him expectantly as she waited, arms on hips, for him to follow her down.
They were going on a little field trip.

He didn't like the change in her tone, or the little flashes of anger he saw light through her. He mostly didn't like that her emotions were so...muted. What had happened? He still didn't understand the whole situation that had happened or how Alkaid had managed to return to her star, he had always thought it was impossible for the corrupt.
Then again he used to think that many things were impossible.
"Yes," he replied without hesitation, blinking once as he spoke. It was a half-truth, he had an idea where the path led yet he didn't know for sure. He hated the poor habits he had let himself fall into yet he couldn't will himself to pull out of them. "No," he admitted slowly watching as she moved from pillar to ground. "Who says I walk the same path?"
He stayed seated, examining the senshi before he sighed and followed suit. His landing was hardly as graceful as hers, it was shaky and he seemed to nearly lose his footing. A clear sign of his failing resolve.
He sighed again and fell in step behind the ascendent general.

She waited patiently for him to fall into line and turned, walking blatantly for the exit of the arena. She said nothing to answer his question, but continued to lead him down a winding path that clearly lead out of the heart of the underground city and out into the battered ruins and what was once probably a lush countryside.
For a long time they walked, until Alkaid could feel the uneasiness of the youma upon her at its strongest. It was a precarious line she walked, being a creature made almost entirely of energy and yet.. a rank that kept them at bay by command. Regardless of the added safety a General's rank provided, she reached a point where she absolutely felt she had to stop, less she risk actual danger.
From seemingly nowhere she plucked an energy orb, holding the glowing ball up between her forefinger and thumb. With one quick glance back at him, she tossed it into the darkness, where it lingered a moment untouched. Then two youma, ghastly beastly things, descended upon it and fought until one had swept it up into their clawed hands. She watched with a mostly blank expression, though inwardly the youma were just as unsettling as ever.
"When you burn yourself out, this is where you will end up. Here, among these creatures, mindlessly fighting over energy to sustain yourself." She turned her back on the scene, with more will power than she would show, and stared him full in the face. "There are worse things than dying."

He was uncomfortable, he didn't like the silence that had settled between them nor did he like the idea that she had something to show him. Something that was to discourage him from continuing down the path he had chosen. Being around her was strange, since they had...broken up he had avoided her taking care to stay away. Especially when Hematite was around her, things had never settled well with him and it took all the self control he had to keep himself from flying off the handle.
Being around her only seemed to making things worse.
He was uneasy as he traveled behind her, careful not to speak. Amber eyes looked upon the ground, glancing around curiously as the aura of youma and strength fluctuated around them. His rank provided little protection for him, yet since the excursions for the Great Youma had occurred the captain felt a tinge of comfort around the twisted creatures. In some places he was welcomed, others he was not yet the Rift had come to be a place he preferred to spend his him.
He couldn't explain the reason behind it.
Then she produced an energy orb, tossing it before them to watch as two youma attacked each other, desperate. His face was expressionless as he watched quietly, hands clenching and unclenching as he struggled to not respond emotionally. "Are we done here?" He asked looking at her only then.
Even with a possible future shown right before him Labyrinthite was too stubborn to admit that he had a problem.

She watched him for a long moment after he spoke, curling her own hands into fists and inwardly struggling not to show her own emotions. The danger with hers were that they were untamed and raw. When they surfaced they were strong, powerful, and overwhelming. As she stared up into Chase's passive eyes it was like a current beneath her skin trying to burst out through all the tiny cracks.
Why were humans so reckless.
"You're as good as dead already, Chase. I'm not going to keep wasting my breath trying to keep you alive if you've already given up on yourself." It was kind of figurative - she didn't actually need to breathe.
She looked away from him in the same moment that she fell into step, brushing past him and heading back for the shattered city. It would have been so much more effective if she could have just teleported out. Instead she had to walk, her stride quick and her heels digging harshly into the barren earth with each powerful step. There were few people that still triggered her emotions so powerfully but Chase, it seemed, was one. She supposed even ascension couldn't kill emotions that had a deep root.

Chase liked to believe that he had a strong control over his emotions, there were few and far between that would force him to wear them openly. When he should be emotional and expressive he instead chose to shut down upon the person who deserved some sort of response from him. This was the second time he had shut down on Kaia, it might even been the last time. He turned, the flicker of a frown on his lips, to watch as the corrupted senshi stormed off.
Since she was no longer looking at him he let his emotions show. Hurt, sadness and regret flooded his features as he watched her leave. He was half tempted to call out and apologize to her. There were many things that he wanted to say to her but once again, he held his tongue. He sighed, running a hand through his hair before he turned and walked back towards the training ground.
He was done for the day but he decided he reflect on this meeting. For now, he would take a break.
