"I'll drive you, then, if you don't mind. I mean, I am certainly not forcing you, but I think it would be safer if you were... a passenger, rather than in command of a large, unpredictable and dangerous moving vehicle."
He looked at her, arching his eyebrow at her pointedly. Tony did not think she was well enough yet to get herself home safely, with how shaken she had been and the lingering fact that it might happen again while she was on the road. He would never forgive himself, and Kyndall certainly wouldn't, if he let her get hurt.
He jumped when she hit the counter, moving to her and putting his hand on her elbow, guiding her hand up.
"Let's not do that," he said, his tone warm and no less understanding then it had been before. He tensed a bit when she asked him about his phrasing, not realizing she would catch on to them so well. He shook his head. "Unfortunately, the library is known for having a few... less than human patrons sometimes. It hasn't happened in a while, which I'm glad for," and he tried to personally ensure, "but you can never be too careful."
For her questions about him being part of it or if he had known something was there he simply let them fall, knowing she was only asking out of fear and not taking any insult in them. And he knew if he tried to explain them away, he would just make himself look even worse.
He was a good liar only when he had to be: when it was this personal and he didn't really want to lie, he was absolutely terrible.

“If you drive me then you’ll have to walk back. No offense, Mr. Darrow, but you own a cane. I’m not sure walking that far is a good thing. But I guess mom can drive you back here if she’s home.”
Kyndall usually was at this time of night to be there for Harmony who came trickling in to shower and pour herself into bed. The more exhausted she was when she got home the more she tended to sleep without dreaming. The less she dreamed the more sleep she actually got. So there was a method to Harmony’s madness and a method to her mother’s who still could not keep herself from waking every so often to pad lightly down the hall to check that her daughter was still in her bed. The idea of having her child already stolen from there once stayed with her and she was having trouble letting it go.
“You have monsters in here?”
She didn’t sound any more comfortable when she asked that then she did asking the previous set of questions. He knew about monsters? Did that mean he knew about the Negaverse, too, and all the bad things that happen to people? In her experience those two things usually went hand in hand. Harmony’s violet eyes studied him intently for a few long moments, trying to decide if she believed him or not.
“Does that mean you know about the Negaverse, too?”
She threw out the name to see if he’d pick it up. She heard it often enough in space. Negaverse, senshi, sailor scouts, youma. All of them foreign words she was now intimately familiar with. She could put out more words than just that one if he seemed to recognize it. She’d never thought of Tony being a part of all this. He was just a dopey librarian her mom had a crush on. With a stab of fear she wondered if her mom knew about this…about the “attacks” at the library and the part the librarian may or may not play. She added stiffly.
“I won’t let you hurt my mom.” But it was unclear in what context she meant it. It could be assumed emotionally but the erratic way Harm was acting, you couldn’t be sure.

Tony looked a little ruffled, but she was right from what she could see. He did have a cane. He walked where ever he needed to go, though, for the most part, as his car had been puttering as of late. Death coughs, he was sure, but he hadn't had it very long and he did not want to have to go and get a new one. So the obvious answer was not to use it too much, save when his leg hurt or the weather was bad.
Because that made sense.
Growing tense, he shook his head.
"There are a lot of things we learn about, when we would rather not know," he said vaguely, knowing she would understand that idea, at least. He looked at her, and offered her a warm smile. Reassuring. "Whatever monsters or bad guys I've met, I keep this place as safe as possible. There's only so much we can do, but we can make it work."
"The last thing I would ever do is hurt you or your mother, let alone let someone else hurt you. You're going through a hard time right now, and you don't have to trust me beyond what you're comfortable with. But I'll be their for you, either way."
He watched her, tilting his head.
"I'll call your mother, if that's easier."

"No. It's fine. I'll just have her drive you back if you want. I don't want you to walk."
She knew her mom wouldn't mind in the slightest having to drive him back. She had a crush on him, didn't she? She'd do anything for him. That was the whole point. She liked him and, secretly, Harm didn't think it would be so bad for her mom to like someone. He hadn't said he had a girlfriend. He knew exactly who she'd meant. Maybe he was interested? Besides, her mom dating had the great benefit of getting her away from the teenager which sounded good. The more she thought about it the more it just made sense.
He hadn't denied knowing about the Negaverse, only seemed sympathetic that she knew. So that was it. He knew all along about it. Did everyone in this town know or was it just her luck to be surrounded by them? She'd have felt better knowing he was Camelot but it was nice he wasn't trying to push or placate her. He was being honest and seemed to want her to go at her own pace...which was new. She threw her arms around him again strangely comforted by the fact that he told her she didn't have to trust him. By contrast, it made her want to.
"Just...drive me home and I'll run inside and have mom drive you back. She won't care. She likes you, remember?"
Harmony also implied that she supported this idea with her tone.

Tony blushed a deep red, but was thankful Harmony was hugging him and couldn't see it, when she mentioned her mother's crush again. he nodded his head, hugging her reassuringly.
He kept his hand resting lightly on her shoulder as he guided her to the front door. Everything was closed up and the timers would take care of the lights if he didn't, which was fine by him. He held the door for her, then locked it behind them.
"Lead the way," he said, not sure where she had parked, and not wanting to run around trying to pick what car was hers. Not that there were many choices at the moment, and he could probably guess the logical one without looking like an idiot. But he didn't, instead looking at her and smiling.
He was rather glad she had showed up to help him, as he felt like they had done a bit of bonding. Not that he was sure why he was so willing to bond with someone else's child when his own was as aloof as the king of England.
Or maybe that was part of it. Only part of it, though. He had been so dedicated to finding Harmony and making sure she came home safe, which he only kind of accomplished, and he cared about Kyndall and the things she cared about. Really, it only made sense for him to want to play parent. especially when she came to him in need.
