"Yeah... all of us... We've seen and been through things no one else will believe. My... mother through I was nuts, even with what little I told her. The police seemed to have their mind made up but they interrogated me anyway. Did you know if anyone else made it out ?" Joshua has no idea, really. He'd been worrying about Fritz's well-being prior to this chance meeting, and it had rekindled his hope that if Fritz had made it, then maybe others had... "I haven't heard about much of anyone beside what showed on the news while I... was at the airport." Yeah. Messy. He'd prefer not to talk about that if he could help it, but he had an explanation lined up if Fritz asked for one.
After all, who in their sane mind wouldn't leap of the first plane out of DC after living what they'd been through ?
"Math teachers don't tend to be humorous." Joshua made a bit of a face at the flying potatoes - wasted food, what a sin ! - and finally took a bite of his sandwich. "Well, I can't promise anything, but I'll try."

Fritz let out a small snort, shaking his head. "My mum just wanted to know what sorts of drugs I was on from those 'crazy Yankees.'" He rolled his eyes. "She's a good person, but I don't think she quite gets it. Tolliver, at least...well, he understands enough, at least."
Except that I can't tell him the most important secret to me.
Joshua's question dragged him back to reality and Fritz absently twisted the fork in his hands around in his fingers. "I've...I've heard rumours," he said hesitantly, but then shook his head. "I haven't seen anything, though..."
He trailed off, brows lifting. "Airport?"
But then he waved his hand, as though it didn't matter. "At any rate, I haven't actually seen anyone - just heard things."
With a sigh, Fritz set his fork down, finally finished eating, and stretched his legs out beneath the table, accidentally kicking his friend in the leg in the process.
"Whoops! Sorry about that, mate."
Leaning forward, Fritz rested his head in his hands. "We're just a couple of suckers."

"My mother wanted to drag me back to Vancouver." This much he could at least admit, if very awkwardly. "I... ran. I didn't want to go. Maybe it sounds weird, but... I really didn't want to go. My whole life is here now. Everyone I know, beside my family... And my parents don't understand. They never can."
Awkward moment was awkward. "Sorry..." Really, he shouldn't have even talked about it. He usually didn't talk about it. But the dark mirrors had asked and he had provided.
He just hoped it wasn't about to become an habit.
"I'll forgive you this once." He said, glad for the change of subject. "But i'll get you next time, gadget."
He went to finish his drink then, hoping Fritz would get the reference. He couldn't be the only one with a love of old cartoons, right ?

"Oh, bloody - I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring that up," said Fritz, a little awkwardly as he waved a hand, trying to dispel some of the unwanted tension that had abruptly risen. "Just ignore me; sometimes I don't think before I speak."
Though it was true for the both of them - just as Josh's family would never understand, Fritz's wouldn't either; especially Tolliver, with whom Fritz normally shared everything. It was killing him, hiding this secret from him, but he could not afford to share it - which meant that Tolliver would not ever understand.
"Gadget?" Reddish brows rose in amusement, Fritz pushing back his chair and rising to dump his rubbish in the bin and return the tray to the stack of dirty ones beside it.
"Inspector Gadget is always on duty, Doctor Claw," he replied, with a wink and a mock salute.

Heheheheh. Joshua settled into a grin, finishing off the last of his food, then stood to follow Fritz. If only he knew how actually accurate that exchange was - through he certainly would never consider himself the bad guy. He was wholly blind to his own corruption - and would most likely always be.
"I'll have to polish my evil laugh then, I guess. And get a cat." Came the amuzed chuckle. "Anyway, class's coming up... I'll catch you later ?" It certainly wouldn't do to be late.
