And another one came out, once again very similar to himself and yet he remained blinkered to this fact. Picking the tiny cub up, he said the second down beside his brother and returned to his position. All in all, the entire process was mundane and robotic, he made a series of approximately five moves and then returned to staring at the wall again. Evidently his ears were stuffed with cotton wool, or alternatively, he just hadn't heard Tarni right given that his response amounted to more of a grunt than anything particularly coherent.

Eh, but at least they were coming out healthy, right?

Afina had been fortunate in that respect even if the father was absent, the gods had smiled kindly upon her and ensured that those left behind would be healthy. With a family like her's they were also likely to be happy too, although he would hazard a guess that they'd probably be dense, stubborn and bratty on the side. The gods would have to have mercy on the souls of those that encountered them in the future, if Xenon had been fully 'in the room' then he may have remarked that the god of patience would suddenly become very popular in the Bahari'mtoto.

Nevertheless, with the exception of a few murmured thoughts in his head as he planned what to do with the rest of his evening, Xenon made for rather lousy confirmation within the den. After all, he technically wasn't meant to be here, right?

The time passed in this manner, one cub following the next, Afina became more and more tired with each push, with each arriving cub she lost girth and energy. It wasn't until the eigth cub emerged that she finally let out a long exhausted sigh and closed her eyes. She was so tired but each of the cubs had emerged healthy and happy and each of them jostled for position against her deflated side. It felt good feeling them there, drinking, getting healthier by the minute.

She opened a lazy eye and smiled up at Xenon "You're still here." She whispers her voice rough and exhausted. "You're still here." She lets out a pleased little sigh, looking down at the cubs whom fed at her side, a tired but pleased smile on her maw. They had certainly made a lot of cubs, she had never expected to give birth to so many and each of them was as beautiful as the last.

Tarni shakes her head, she sits down for a moment and smiles at Xenon "Congradulations Daddy. I'm going to get some water for her, will you be alright for a few minutes?" She raises a brow getting to her paws without waiting for an answer and going out of the den to fetch water for the new mother.

Well, no one could fault Afina for being fertile and they probably couldn't fault the father either. Xenon had counted as they'd come out and had systematically placed them beside each other until she was finished. When her body gave a final shudder and it appeared to be over, he was finally allowed to move away and back towards the exit of the den. Evidently he had no intentions of staying, particularly now she had calmed down and was in the correct mindset to allow her parents to enter safely... In his mind, he was still of the impression that the cubs weren't his.

However, as he ducked low and picked his way across the den, he caught sight of the flashes of grey in his peripheral vision. Admittedly there were some oddities in colour, but there were ample levels of splotching and... It gave him reason to pause. His brow furrowed and with his paw still lived in mid stride, he slowly flicked his gaze round to inspect the litter properly. What he saw was enough to shock him to the core, but more importantly, it was enough to drive him mad as well!

"AFINA!" he roared, his temper flaring as he smacked her upside the head with his paw. Clearly the necessity for rest of a mother was now lost on him as he bore down on the lioness. "You complete and utter, ARSE!" he declared and pointed his tail at the cubs.

"Those are MINE - what kind of selfish little minx are you that you would deny them their right father?" he howled furiously, his cheeks puffing out and mane flaring. Alas, the blue lioness wasn't allowed to rest yet, it would seem.

"Owie" She mumbled looking up at him, she was too tired to argue with him. Instead she looks utterly contrite. "I'm sorry..I did tell you..You just wern't listening." She pouts some, a watery look in her golden eyes. "Please don't yell, you'll scare the babies." She quips, keeping to her usual form in demanding something from this conversation. Letting out a very tired sigh the young lioness looks up at her ex-mate hopefully. "Please don't go, I asked you to come because I need you, we need you, you are my mate and you are their father. Please, don't go away again, it hurt so much last time."

The deep blue lioness looks at her paws saddly, she had deserved the thwap and she knew it, she had lied and decived and just generally been a little brat, but that didn't mean she didn't love Xenon more than anyone else. He was her mate, he had brought her all of this little fluffy joy. "I want you to be their father, I want my mate back, I swear I will never listen to a word my mother says against you ever again. I'm sorry I listened the first time, she was wrong and I should have known..I was..I was scared you would leave me and then you did any way." She lets tears roll down her cheeks "I don't blame you for going..but please, don't go again we need you, I need you, I don't want them to make the same mistakes as I have and only you can stop that from happening. Please?" She looks up at the big gray male, her gaze watery and tired. She was exhausted, alls he wanted to do was sleep, but she couldn't sleep until she had sorted this out with Xenon, he needed to know how much she loved him, how much she needed hima nd how very sorry she was.

Please..Please don't go.."

"They're going to have to get used to my booming voice anyway, let them sppok," Xenon snapped grumpily, abruptly seating himself as he glared at the lioness. At least she had the decency to look ashamed of herself, even if he wasn't buying an immediate apology. Oooh no, while it might have been appropriate to a certain extent, she was going to have to work far harder to get back into his affections. He usually wasn't one to hold grudges, but in this case he was going to drag the little madam over the coals.

"And whether you would have liked it or not I would have been their father anyway, even if you had flat out refused I would have overruled you," he continued, indicating that he was prepared to stay. Admittedly, he was staying predominantly because he happened to have sired eight cubs and they needed a father, as opposed to staying because his bratty little ex-mate had declared she still wanted him. No, for all intents and purposes she needed him because she was now a single mother with a lot of children.

...Or at least that was how he was going to see it until proven otherwise.

"I will be here to raise them, but if you expect me to take you back as my mate you are sorely mistaken," he continued and heaved a sigh. "You are going to have to work hard to reach the point that I place faith in you again, do you understand?" he added. Even he knew that he was treating her like a child in these moments, but at this point in time it needed to be done. After what she'd put him through and the lies she had told in her anger and stubborness, she would have to put a bit of effort in before he would accept her... But heh, at least he was there for the long haul, right?

"And if you reach that point; then and only then, will I accept you again." he finished in the same disgruntled manner as before.

Afina smiles a weak, exhausted smile and nods. "I understand." She whispers, lowering her head to her paws. "I am sorry I lied to you,Ii was so angry at you for.." She sighs and shakes her head, "It doesn't matter.." She didn't want to go in to it, she was tired, she just wanted Xenon to forgive her to take her back but it seemed that no matter how much she appologised she wasn't going to gain his trust in one very painful afternoon.

She smiles softly her nose turned towards the little wriggling squeaking bundles that were her babies, their babies. "They are beautiful arn't they?" She coos, a pleased little sigh escaping her lips. "I want to sleep but..What if they wander off?" She blinks owlishly struggling to keep her eyes open, she was so tired, so very tired her whole body screamed for a rest but there was all this weird worry in her now as she looked at the cubs their little bodies so vulnerable to everything in the world.

"I'm glad you're here for them Xenon." She whispers closing her eyes for a long moment. "Thank you, for coming, will you be here when I wake up? You'll watch them while I have a little nap? I promise it won't be long." She looks around to him tears welling in her eyes again, she was feeling very emotional and frightened of what she could ask Xenon to do. Would he stay and watch their children while she slept? "Please...I promise I won't sleep for long."

"Just don't do it again," Xenon replied rather flatly, drawing a line under the entire affair as though it had been dealt with appropriately. There was only so many times a lion could listen to the same phrase over and over again before he cracked and it would be safe to say that Afina had apologised enough. While she had a little work to do in rebuilding the trust she had cast aside, she had made her feelings quite clear on the issue. She recognised she'd made a mistake and he wasn't going to punish her for that, he'd accepted the apology, even if it may not necessarily have felt that way to the young lioness at this precise moment in time.

"And yes they are beautiful," he confirmed. However, he couldn't stop his brows from shooting up at the words that next fell from her lips. He'd heard a lot of silly things in his time but only Afina could possibly think her cubs were going to go for a walk an hour after birth. He looked decidedly amused as he stared at the sleepy female and then shook his head. "Given they're scarcely an hour old and can't even open their eyes, I doubt they'll be walking for a little while yet," he pointed out mildly, forcing his brows to lower as he regarded the bundle of cubs, needless to say, there were a lot of them.

Not bad for an old boy, if he dared say so himself.

"Now go to sleep," he murmured and flicked his gaze towards the lioness. "I'll be here when you wake up," he reassured her and released a sigh, lowering himself down into a more comfortable position for the evening. Well, now there were no mysteries as to what his evening entailed - babysitting and potential crisis management in the form of a distraught set of parents... Oi, but he wasn't looking forward to that encounter.

It sucked being the responsible one sometimes - it really did.
