Ugh. That name. Candace grimaced, the excitement and delight she had felt watching a monster be turned into a mere weapon dissipating in an instant when he began calling her sweet and delicious. What a creep. It took everything she had not to roll her eyes and smack the man in the face with the freshly made scythe. "Candace." She said as...politely yet forcefully as she could manage. Candace, damnit. Candace. She looked toward the lock boxes and found what he was talking about, digging through her bag for the pendant as she made her way over to one. She held the pendant against a box until she heard it unlock and opened it, gingerly placing the scythe in the box. She stared at it for a good minute before slowly pushing it closed.

This was more her speed.

Candace raised a brow and looked up at the yelling creature as well. "Harrison, Jerry and I should probably head back inside soon...is there anything you'd like us,"--Me~?--"To do before we leave?" Did she get to have a little fun with the captives? There was a very, very faint chuckle from Atropos in the back of her mind.

The doctor gave a soft chuckle at her question, "Ah...how generous to offer yourself, my dear Candace." It rolled off his tongue slow as honey, and was barely an improvement over Candy. "Alas, I must be off to find our heroic Mr. Brant, but you may want to take a moment or two to study the creatures of myth and legend without the onus of subterfuge, hm?" Moments later he was gone, leaving Clarice to oversee the tent.

"Don't touch the equipment, trainee," the assistant's voice was acidic, "...and don't touch the bars on the cages. It would be a shame if a sweet and delicious treat such as yourself had an accident."

The figures ignored him. No surprise there. A trio entered the tent: a girl covered in spectrum slime and two half-naked men toting unicorn clothing. If Diece hadn’t been so aggravated from his current predicament, he might have actually cracked a rare smile, or at least smirked amusedly.

The hooded figure that appeared to be in charge strolled over to an unfamiliar contraption. He could spot a screen with tiny, tiny text he could not read from his current position, but it did nothing to help him figure out what the hell was going on. Why the hell was he in a cage? Who were these people? Why were they calling him a specimen? Why were those two guys wearing unicorn clothes? THINGS DID NOT MAKE SENSE.

Things began to spiral into even more confusion as one of them strode over to the connected cages and conversed with the creature. What kind of s**t were they spewing now? Soul Harvester? Prototype? Weapons? Diece heard the mention of FEAR and he perked up a bit. Finally, something he knew and understood!

Unfortunately, the victory was short-lived. The creature seemed to fly into the container and in moments, the container turned into a scythe. “What…the hell?” Diece hissed in a low voice as he stared at the weapon with disbelieving eyes. Was…the creature no more? Was it dead? His mind seemed to cling to that thought. Had these things come to take him and others for this purpose? To kill them so that they could turn into this stupid tools? “You’re never getting me into that thing, never.”

“Do something?” he echoed as he turned to the girl next to him. “Yeah, because we can totally break out of these cages and do something.” Then he looked at Glen, his expression serious. “…what the hell are you saying? I can’t understand you!”

As he spoke her proper name Candace was suddenly unsure of if she preferred him saying her name correctly or saying it as Candy. At least when he said Candy he wasn't tainting her actual name, but with Candy he was speaking of her as if he was going to eat her. It was creepy. She gave a snort as he mentioned having to go find someone. "Have fun. Don't get covered in rainbow goop." She herself was still covered in the stuff, but now it was dry. Ugh. He had a point though, she did want to see what these creatures were like. She was about to even walk up to the cage when Clarice's voice cut in.

Candace rolled her eyes then, giving the other woman an unimpressed stare. "Wouldn't dream of it...ugh, why does he insist on calling me a treat." She turned her attention back to the cages, looking each creature over. She was looking for something...but what? Whatever it was she didn't see it in any of these cages.

"So these creatures are from that other world, huh? Precious." She looked to the fire demon curled up in his cage. "They look so...sad." There was no sympathy in her voice as she said this. They truly did look sad, and pitiful, and pathetic. Not a very impressive bunch.

"C-candace, we should go..." Jerry had fallen quiet while Candace had tended to Dr. H's dirty work. his face pale as he stared at the cages.

There were... things in them. Those students. It was odd seeing them with his own eyes- that time in the Golem felt like a dream, but this... this was real. Those creatures were really there, watching him as he moved to gently put a hand on his team-mate's shoulder.

He wished he was wearing something more dignified than the rainbow-tailed unicorn pants, but alas... His lips pursed, shaking a bit as he pulled away from her to the closest caged creature. It was watching him. *Judging* him. Perhaps sizing him up to see how he would taste?

He was sick of this. "You're where you belong," The usually bubbly man snarled, his face reddening, "And getting what's coming to you. Who's the prey now, huh?" He ignored the superior's urge to not touch anything, giving the cage a sudden kick. "WE AREN'T AFRAID OF YOU YOU KNOW." By we he meant himself. And also might have been lying a bit.

B0nez was noticeably silent as the...guardian? Chainguy was pulled from the cage and pushed into a chamber.

Harrison wasn't sure if he was supposed to be surprised that a chamber was responsible for the monster-to-weapon process. Chambers were responsible for just about everything else. Where Fear came from was easy. Scary stuff, obviously. And here they were, in the middle of a bunch of scary stuff, right next to the House of Lisa Frank, and with cages of bigger creatures...not minipets, but the walking, talking, going-on-minipet-catching-adventures ones, piled high.

Some of them were snarling and hissing. And that was okay.

Some of them were articulate, and insulting them, or crying... Harrison felt the back of his neck prickle. These were baby monsters. They seemed harmless but when they grew up, they murdered people. Preyed on humanity. They were crooks-in-training, and this was the process by which they started fighting for people instead of against them. They became his good buddy B0nez, and not ready-to-tear-his-throat-out shadows in the dark.

Caelius showed him the blade. Controlled. Like taking wild dogs and making them police dogs. Partners. He didn't have an opinion on the science or philosophy. Harrison nodded once, tightly, but didn't say anything. He couldn't hear anything from the new weapon.

Caelius left, and he looked over at the other 12 cages. Then Dr. H. swept in, and Clarice commented on his...uniform. Responding to her was easier than talking about or to the monsters locked up in cages.

"Yeah, thanks. Jerry's got matching shoes," Harrison said to Clarice. What was he supposed to say? I'm stuck in this thing and the house ripped off my shirt? He settled for looking like he absolutely belonged in the damn thing and it was wearing it on purpose.

Candace was all taking it in stride. She sounded ready to have another go at the house. Or a poke at the monsters.

"I'm ready whenever, I guess. ...Are all these guys going to be turned over like that?"

Clarice gave Candace a long level stare before turning back to Harrison, whatever she had to say was promptly interrupted by the outburst at the cages. "...Jerry, was it?" She began, audibly biting back the desire to begin kicking something or someone herself, "Jerry, step away from the cages."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:45 pm

"What would you rather do," she hissed back at her fellow captive, "just sit here and do nothing? Does anyone have a useful power, something that could help us get out of here? I don't want to be a sitting duck."

She talked boldly to the boil, but deep down her stomach was busy tying itself into knots. Knots that twisted further as two of the beings approached, a ghoul and one of the sparkly unicorn...things.

She hated this, hated feeling like some animal in a zoo, waiting to be gawked at by the ignorant public. The girl viewed them with such disdain, when obviously something was wrong with her, to view what they had just seen and just act like nothing was out of the ordinary, like everything was fine.

But the one who really pricked at her was the boil who came up to her. When he went off on his spiel, and then kicked the cage it was the last straw. With far more bravery than she felt she crept forward to stare at him with baleful eyes. "Who's the monster here really?" she demanded. "If you aren't afraid unlock these cages and lets see how tough you really are." She wasn't much a fighter, but any chance would be better than being locked up, waiting to face her doom.

Jerry's blood was boiling. He had never felt this way. These weren't the students back home he had taught. These were the Shadows. These were the things that had driven him nearly out of his skull his whole life. These were the things that made him terrified of his own shadow.

Face to face with them locked safely in their cages, it was easier to not be so petrified. It was a ruse. They were going to be made useful, productive. Tamed.

Face still trembling behind his thick glasses he glowered at the creature, finally spitting at the base of the cage before stepping back, "Yes, Ma'am." His voice had lost it's jolly edge.

He was facing his fears. He was done being afraid.

"Uh," Harrison said to the thing in the cage. "Pretty sure it's you,"

Jerry's face was turning all sorts of weird colors. Harrison gave him a slightly goopy pat on the shoulder.

The hand on her shoulder pulled her attention away from the cages to look back at Jerry, grinning again. "Aw, but Jerr-bear. This is so interesting! I'm intrigued! It's incredible. Turning these things into weapons? Forcing them to aid us? It's amazing." She spoke in awe and wonderment even as one of the creatures, a female one, began speaking of methods of escape. Candace laughed, a laugh she hadn't heard from herself since the incident in The Room. The laughter cut off as Jerry suddenly snapped at one of the monsters. She jumped, eyes widening and turning to watch Jerry. Her Jerry was getting all tough tonight! First the fight with the Boos, now this? Though as he kicked the cage she gasped and reached out to stop him. It wasn't that she cared he was kicking the cage, she cared that kicking the cage could hurt him.

"Jerry. Jerry stop. Shhh, Jerry.." Candace was smiling as she reached out to put a hand on the man's shoulder, pulling him close enough to rest her forehead against his and peer at him through the lenses of his glasses after he had spit at the cage and answered to Clarice. "You're doing very well tonight. I approve." A hand was still on his shoulder, the other one lifting to brush the backs of her fingers over his cheek. "It's okay~. Let's go back inside and kick some a** and complete this mission, okay?" She leaned in enough to rub the tip of her nose against his and then peck a light kiss against it, leaning back with a grin.

"Ready to go, Jerr-bear? Harrison's ready when we are~."

Again, a swim of colors, although the man's expression contorted. Gears were clearly slipping and regrouping and the clutch might have stuck for a moment, causing things to grind a bit as his brain attempted to change direction a bit too quickly for the slightly unstable man.

Candace was- and her head was- and her nose was- and her lips just-

"I... ah... ahahahaha... y-yes.. um! I guess we have er... a yellow-brick road to follow still!" His voice had lost it's edge, wobbling back to his usual nervous excitement. He was crimson now for entirely different reasons. As he pushed his glasses back up his nose, his eyes slid beyond Candace's encouraging face to the more sullen one behind the bars. They narrowed, looking away again.

They were doing them a favor with this process. Bettering them for society. It just didn't realize it yet.

Roar was still uncharacteristically quiet on the matter. He was thankful for it.

He had found another happy place. A slightly more grounded one. "I can do this. They wouldn't have recruited me if they found me completely useless, ahahaha..." He swallowed, clearing his throat as he straightened his scarf-tie and hoisted his unicorn pants. "A job to do, yes!" An arm suddenly thrust around Candace's shoulder to guide her pointedly back away from the cages and feelings that left the hunter a bit worried about himself. He covered those feelings with a steady hum of "If I only had the nerve."

She was actually glad to see him get all flustered and nervous again. It was so...Jerry. Her grin softened to a gentle smile as she ruffled the man's hair. "Thatta boy." Her gaze followed his to the cage beside them and the girl inside it, the one who had thought it would be cute to ask who the monster was in this tent. She rolled her eyes and scoffed lightly, giving Jerry's shoulder an assuring squeeze before dropping her hand away. "The yellow-brick road, huh?" She chuckled. So silly.

The arm around her shoulder was a surprise, one that had her stumbling and flailing until she could loop an arm comfortably around Jerry's waist. Candace laughed, tilting her head to rest it against Jerry's. "My, my! Getting bold now, are we?" She looked back and reached for Harrison as well, grabbing his hand and tugging him along with herself and Jerry as the older man actually led the way for once!

Donatello was conscious he had been for a while now but he was in far too much shock to say or do anything. He heard the screams voices, whispers it was all too much for him he didn’t know what was happening or if he even cared. He finally raised his left arm to covers his eyes he wanted to cry but he couldn’t more like he wouldn’t. Not in this place he sat up finally running a hand through his hair once then twice then several more times frustrated.

He looked around once more maybe this will call him down if he could understand what was happening. He didn’t pay much to the other captors it was cruel he knew that but it was no point getting others hopes up. He closed his eyes trying to call himself down he was trying to recall whatever he heard. A few words keeps playing in his mind weapons, thirteen, and destruction why was he here was all he could do is wonder.

Donatello sighed once more the word destruction it was always an end game wasn’t it. He laughed a very eerily laugh he had been in a few pinches but none like this. He laughed for a while then let out a long sigh. He figured this was a hopeless cause but those were always the best he sighed leaning his head back eyes closed with a smile on his face.

Glen's anger kept him out of what was going on for some time, the red haze in front of his eyes enough to carry him, make him forget where he was and who he was surrounded by. For a time, he persisted yelling a few more expleitives and posturing as menacingly as he could at the cage. However, his anger, like all extremes of emotion could only carry him so long, his body quickly ran out of fury as he watched some of the hunters leave, some of them perhaps seeming interested in their captive plight but ultimately indifferent.

"Aye, run away ya fannies!" he croaked weakly, his voice hoarse and rough from yelling. Finding the wings of adrenaline had dropped him to earth. Fear still gripped him but now it was tempered a little with despair.

He let himself flop to the floor of his cage in a heap, pulling his knees up to hug them, curling in a defensive foetal position, the shivering anger leaving him feeling hurt and sorry for himself. It wasn't manly, it wasn't tough but what he needed was a good cry and he was determined no one else would see him do it or hear his defeated little whimpers.
