 CelesteCeleste glanced at the bucket of cold water and shuddered, tensing her little shoulders and crinkling her nose in disgust. Water really was a wretched thing.
She inhaled slowly, putting her arms behind her back. She laced her fingers, squeezing them to keep her mind off what she was doing. She'd never admit that, though. Fear was for idiots, especially of something so simple as water.
Hinging at the hips, she opened her mouth, trying vainly to grasp one of the apples between her teeth. They were so damp and slippery, though, with their smooth peels. Every time she came close, she felt one escape her grasp.
She did, however, end up with a leaf bit caught between her teeth.
With a groan of frustration, she straightened in anger, trying to pry the leaf out.
"Arceus damned apples... Who played this frickin' game, anyway?"

Damon Blindly searching for anything in the cloudy water, the Shinx hybrid felt the smooth surface of another apple. He chomped at it, careful not to swallow any of the foul-tasting water, and grit his teeth as the fruit swirled away. Trying again, more carefully, he found that if he juuust barely touched the apple, he could maybe grasp the stem between his teeth... Damon's head shot back out of the water as he gasped desperately for breath. Well, so much for that. Craning his neck back over the tub rim, he grudgingly plunged his face back into the dark waters.

CelesteThe Chimchar tried again, ducking her head and snapping at the nearest apple. The smooth peel of the apple forced the brightly-coloured fruit out of her straining jaws once more.
She was beginning to really get frustrated, trying to grab one of the apples from the water's surface. She hadn't touched the water yet, unlike some of the less intelligent contestants, but she also hadn't gotten any apples.
She would have to dunk her face under, she realized, if she was to get anything.
No, Celeste mentally refused. She was not about to lower herself to such standards. What was winning, if one got their face so damp to do so? She didn't want to be dripping wet in front of everyone!

Jack held his paws behind his back, and dunked his head under, eyes closed and mouth open. He swooped his head through the water like a Sharpedo. Speaking of Sharpedo...one was released into the barrel! Jack didn't notice as his lips wrapped around an apple, and his face started swooshing towards the surface, but the Sharpedo rushed him and took the apple away, munching on it happily. Jack's ears drooped with wetness and disappointment. He looked around, and saw Aku. Damn, she was watching all of his shame! He tried to look all cool, but realized being in his 'costume' probably was as lame as he could possibly get.

CelesteCeleste grumbled to herself, almost wondering if she couldn't just reach in with her hand and grab the apples that way. Sure, it was cheating, but if no one saw, that wouldn't really be a problem.
She just wanted to get an Arceus-damned apple, at this point.
She'd tried so many times, just to get yet another leaf stuck in her teeth. She ended up spitting this one back into the water, rather than pulling it away with her fingers. Ugh. Leaves tasted nasty; she didn't know how some of the other Pokemon around the guild could stand them.
She bowed her head, curling her lips away from her teeth as she fought vainly to grasp another apple. Another attempt, another failure.

Jack dunked his head under water once more, keeping one eye open for any Sharpedo that may want to eat his face. Of course he saw nothing but blur, and quickly shut it again. His mouth opened and he moved his head back and forth real quick, trying to feel with his mouth. Instead his ear twitched and he swore he heard the roar of some angry Sharpedo coming straight for him, and he pulled out, ears and fur splashing water backward. He gasped for air but got none. Two apples stuck out of the HamHams mouth.
( Edited, forgot the Sharpedo made it a 7 instead of an 8 )

CelesteCeleste huffed irritably. She already knew that she wasn't getting anywhere with her current strategy, but out of sheer stubborn nature, she continued to follow it. She would not get her fur damp.
A Sharpedo, something she hadn't realized to be present, shifted in the depths, startling her. She let out a sharp cry, the noise sounding choked and strangled as her face plunged into the barrel of water.
She pulled her soaked little head upright, looking both extremely embarrassed, and extremely murderous. A shiny red apple was clenched between her jaws.

Jack turned to see Aku, looking kind of bad for poor Jack. Jack realized that it was just a game. Although he wanted to impress everyone, trying too hard wasn't going to get him anywhere. He shrugged and stuck his tongue out at his partner, who brightened up right away. He turned around, opened his mouth, and then ducked it under the water once more. Almost instantly an apple slid into his mouth, as if it wanted to be there. Jack sunk his teeth into the apple and tried to bring it up quick, but the Sharpedo beat him to it, and ate it right out of his mouth.

Just as the Deerling lost what little of his footing he had left and ended up with his head submerged completely under the water and a layer of apples, a sudden pressure that encompassed practically an entire side of his face left him in more of a panic than what he previously was. Hyperventilating and flailing wildly for any hope of regaining solid ground, Lynne soon realized that he was being lifted from his watery demise and within moments he was able to catch a breath of air once more; his entire body having flopped limply over the side of the barrel after Goop's initial aid. Little care did he have in this moment to take note of the pink blob attached to his head, rather the shivering child broke into a sneezing fit as he was sprawled out on the unforgiving ground. With each abrupt exhale the mixed Grass and Normal type changed formes, cycling through all of the seasons before finally reverting back to the winterish one which he started out this whole process in. With each change, his short, thin fur was shed in what would be comparable to a cloud of dusty smoke that if inhaled probably didn't lead to any of the sweet tastes Goop was hoping for. Throughout this whole process two apples had slipped their way out of the barrel, most likely having done so at the same time which Lynne was struggling to get out; the red spheres landing next to the duo of still attached Pokemon.

Bang! The shot was fired so suddenly that it caught Eon off his guard, giving the other contestants several seconds of a head start on him as he reeled back and did his best not to fall over. His heart was pounding with adrenaline mixed with nerves, and he knew what he had to do. Taking a deep breath of air he plunged his head into the water. It was cool and moist, feeling almost pleasant to his too hot skin. The Pikachu blinked his eyes open in the murky water, looking for the shadow that would signify an apple. There was one close by, just out of reach. He could get it if he just moved a tiny bit closer. Then suddenly a splashing sound from nearby threw off his concentration entirely, he inhaled sharply before pulling back as he breathed in the water, resulting in a wet and coughing Pikachu without an apple. Grimacing as he coughed the last bit of fluid out of his lungs, Eon breathed in slowly, the oxygen feeling much better on his lungs than the water had. He was better than this. Damon Damon felt another apple touch his sensitive nose. Snapping forward, his teeth scraped the slippery surface before finally finding purchase and sinking deep into the white flesh. Sweet juices oozed out of the delectable fruit, and Damon was reluctant to let go of it into the separate bucket meant for apples caught. Yawning to try and get his cold, numb face muscles working again, he looked uncertainly at the bucket full of apples before once again plunging face-first into the foggy water.

CelesteInfuriated, Celeste lifted her dripping face, popping the shiny red apple from her jaws, and spitting it out into her hands. She set it aside onto its designated ledge, and she glanced up in time to see a nearby worker put a tally mark by her name on the scoreboard.
She glanced back at the barrel, and crinkled her nose. The water still rippled from where her head had gone under, and the droplets off her fur sent little waves across the surface.
The movement of the Sharpedo beneath, too, shifted the water's surface. It was shallow enough that the great predators didn't really bother with not disturbing the water above; they just didn't want to hit bottom. Every so often, in fact, she'd catch the tip of a fin brushing the surface.
She bent over to snag another apple with her teeth, and quickly withdrew, still watching the great shark Pokemon move about. She didn't want her head too close to jaws that big.

Used to the icy touch of the water, Damon felt it safe to try and open his eyes to have a look around. Big mistake. He quickly slammed his eyelids back shut, his eyes stinging from the cold and trapped grit. Dangit! Why couldn't they make the water cleaner. Though overall, it was most uncomfortable, perhaps it would at least make it slightly more bearable. He wasn't even able to see two inches past his nose-- something brushed aside his cheek. The cub quickly snapped at it, cursing as it slipped away. He accidentally swallowed some water and was forced to fling his head back, desperately gulping air and choking. This didn't look good; the Chimchar next to him had already snapped up a few apples. He returned to his fruitless searches after his coughing fit passed.

CelesteThe Chimchar waited, watching the Sharpedo under the surface for another moment. The second she felt they were a fair distance off, she ducked her head back down, and in her hurry dunking her face under the surface.
The icy water lapped and splashed against her charcoal fur, sending chills racing through her spine. She felt unnatural and exposed. She forced her eyes open, squinting in the dark waters as she tried to keep the grit from touching her violet eyes. It was so dark, even for her. She could barely see.
After a moment, the water cleared, and she managed to secure an apple stem between her teeth. She reared her head back, drawing her face out of the water.
The apple still hanging from her jaws, she watched as the surface rippled again. A Sharpedo passed by, beady eyes staring back at her.
She gulped, and dropped the apple down into her hands. That was lucky.
