She had a point.
"Ah. I live. Somewhere," he said vaguely, clearing his throat. He grinned at her, though, as he imagined she could guess why he really did not want to answer he question straight up. He smiled warmly, though, not being aggressive or defensive about it. Still, better safe than sorry. He could not assume just because they were close as civilians that his secret would be safe with her. He didn't know if she was keeping one, as well, even if he had rationalized that she wouldn't be so upset if she did know about things.
No one acted this well, did they?
Still, though he hated thinking this way because it made him feel paranoid, he had to be on the safe side.
When she called him her hero he blushed and looked down, feeling silly for being so touched by the sentiment. Wasn't that what he was trying to be? But to hear her say it made him bashful about the whole thing. Maybe he was better suited to being one of those unsung heroes. Calling attention to it made him feel awkward and silly.
He waited until she went inside before he moved off, certain nothing would attack her between her porch and her front door, but not taking the chance anyway.
