Cass was there. She was learning quite quickly to not lag or be late to anything, even if she wanted to be. Why? Because she didn't know if Aria was going to be there or not. THat was her primary concern. Not pissing off the boss-lady and being killed until she was dead. She wasn't sure what that would entail, but..
...
....

She kinda had a few things in life she was enjoying and wanted to dabble in for a while longer. Nothing more. Nicodemus didn't approve, especially verbal about this in her head. He was making helpful suggestions of people to pair up with, but it was obvious that Cassandra Norris was waiting for someone in particular before she did anything else. She lingered, but made a point to look busy. Frankly, she didn't put any trust in Caelius's ability to make groups.

In fact, she had very little trust for the man. Nicodemus felt like that was how it should have been. If he could get Cass to pry herself away from other people and focus on being the astute hunter he was sure was hiding in there somewhere, maybe she would stop having so much focus on that boy. Cassandra had no time for boys. How did she manage to get so much of it in??

So, she'd just look for someone she recognized... hmmmm...

A foot nudged the charred tech's body, producing a pained moan, "Perfectly fine, no thanks to your mythical technical skills, Cael. Really, since when were you capable of more than enigmatic warnings, a supposedly charming smile, and leaving your weapon laying around for people to slaughter each other with, hmmm?" Dr. H, still in his customary robes, crouched down beside the injured tech and began making sad little tsking noises as he inspected the apparatus. "Perhaps it would better if you used some of that supposed charisma to ah...hmmm, maybe you should just go...carry something."

The only answer Bix received for his first question was a mute nod, Gale's eyes flickering first from the albino now beside him, to the large and imposing apparatus several feet away. He did not want to let on that he was relieved of having the older boy on his team; considering that Bix was one of the few who actually treated him like he was a member of the hunters and didn't wonder about his age, it would be nice.

"I haven't seen either of them," Gale said, frowning slightly, but before he could look any further, someone had stepped towards them, shouldering a knapsack.

"Hello," said Gale politely, though he already knew who Tika was. However, at the time they'd met, he'd been in the body of a female ice demon, and she a large, male yeti, so he doubted she remembered that. "I'm Gale."

"Bix! After!"

There was only one person left who still actually called him that. Before received a genuine smile from Gale, though he winced slightly at the raised voice of the other hunter.

"Before. Er. Volume."

His eyes slid back to the female hunter, a frown tugging down Gale's lips. I'm here too, was what he had been about to say, but then gave up and remained stoically silent. It would do no good to take offense at small things, after all; that was both childish and petty, neither of which were attributes Gale wanted to be known for. So instead he gave Tika a small, brief smile, and said "The more the merrier, right? We'll be one kickarse team. Now if only we could find Boss..."

The vibrant sound of an electrical shock seized in his ears, making him flinch involuntarily, Gale giving their instructor a wary glance - which was followed by an equally wary and slightly more irritated glance as the hooded Dr. H inevitably appeared.

Scowling, Gale twisted the silver and gold ring on his finger. Nothing good ever came from the appearance of that man...

"I'm going to go find Boss," he muttered to Bix and the others, then disappeared into the throng of hunters.

Glancing around the area for a suitable minion, the doctor's eyes landed on Davey, "Mr. Brant!" He called out jovially, "Perhaps you could give me a hand here?" He nudged the tech again, possibly just to make sure he hadn't died in the interim, "Could you carrying this fellow to the infirmary? After your done, please fetch a couple of the large containers from the lab area. They'll be marked with the word 'protoype.'" He paused for a moment, "Unless a bit of fetch and carry is beyond your ah....grasp?"

Davey perked up a little when Caelius spoke of volunteering to help out. He could do that, at least. Better than sitting around twiddling his thumbs.

... And then the current 'help' screamed and collapsed. Davey shot Caelius an incredulous look. Was he trying to get Davey killed again? The third time would be the charm, no doubt, as they were no longer in a virtual reality (as far as any of the trainees knew, anyway - Davey wasn't putting much past that psycho doctor).

Oh, had Davey been glaring at Caelius? It was nothing compared to the deathly look the doctor received as he called on Davey. Acid-green eyes narrowed beneath his hood, Davey stalked forward. One arm was all he needed to swing the moaning tech up and over his good shoulder. Hell, Davey even made it look easy (and really? It totally was. Davey was used to doing this with fallen comrades who were wearing nearly their own body weight again in body armour and survival gear.)

"My 'grasp'," he snarled, "is just fine." As Davey turned and headed for the infirmary, he muttered, "I could still benchpress more than you with just one hand."

Davey's mood wasn't going anywhere but down today. He even glared at the fellow trainees who didn't move out of his way fast enough. ******** probably agreed with the doctor - useless cripple, huh? He'd show them. He'd be back before they left or did anything useful. In his dark mood, it slipped his mind that several of them had stuck up for him before against Dr. H. Davey stalked off, still muttering darkly.

Ariane wasn’t standing with her “group” upon arrival; she knew that they would distract her and had decided to slip away to stand at the side as their superior started his debriefing. As usual, he was vague and while he kept saying that they were to retrieve an ‘artifact’, she couldn’t help noticing that he did not tell them the name of said artifact nor did he describe it… She raised an eyebrow, grabbing her phone and holding it up to check the screen; perhaps more instructions would come later, in the form of texts…

It reminded her of when they were still faceless, masked people, trying to survive.

“Hey kid,” She greeted Gale, holding up a hand in a casual ‘hi’ gesture as he appeared through the crowd that had begun to form; her tone wasn’t mean, but mildly teasing instead, ”I’m touched that you would come get me.” So touched that there was an amused grin on her lips. So very touched.

”Are the rest over there?” She was referring to the Betas, of course, even without meaning to; as much as they were supposed to work ‘as a whole body’, she had a feeling it would turn out this way – cliques clinging together due to their shared experiences. As she walked in the direction Gale had came from without waiting for an answer from the boy, she was surprised to see an unfamiliar face among the many familiar faces – a girl with quite the radical hairstyle.

Ariane,” She extended out a hand towards the girl with radical hairstyle, ”I don’t believe we’ve met.”

Jude's arms crossed over his chest as he listened to the objectives for their first mission the inconsistency of that statement and what he had gone through prior to this particular mission was dismissed as the dear instructor having a sudden case of Alzheimer's or something similar of that nature. Clearly they just liked yanking them around just for fun and games. He rubbed at his jaw a bit and then gazed around to see who he could team up with, voices going on around him and he for the most part ignored him.

The warning was spoken by Caelius and that seemed to be all he needed to be more proactive in his hunt for group members. As if he suddenly had a fire lit right under him he started looking around not for familiar faces but for faces he could be around without wanting to smother them for stupidity or taking too long to decide things.

His eyes fell on Cass and he gravitated toward her, "We're going to be teammates," he said bluntly in a tone that meant he wasn't going to argue with her on the subject, "if you don't mind."

So nice of him to pretend to give her a choice.

"Help me find a couple of other people...Please." Jude murmured to her.

On his way to the infirmary, a cloaked figure speed walked past him, in an obvious hurry. It was several moments later, that a soft feminine gasp echoed through the hallway. "Oh! Oh no!" The figure turned and rushed back to Davey, "Did you need help? It was the doctor wasn't it, he's always like this, making fun of other people's hardships!" This was followed by a dramatic sniff, and a no move on her part to relieve the trainee of his burden at all.

"Why just the other day, he said to me, 'Clarice,' in that awful way of his. 'Clarice, have you been playing with the sleepers again?' And I told him no! I mean after the last time, I got so many horrible duties to make for it. And it's not even like I did anything wrong, the guy woke up just fine. Maybe with some kind of...weird unicorn fetish, but that could have already been a thing with him. Not to mention I have yet to lose anyone's..." her voice finally trailed off, and she glanced over at him again, paused and then exclaimed, "Oh no that's right! Do you need me to give you a hand?"

Another pause.

"Oh god.
Oh wait no! I didn't mean it like that! I am so sorry, that was so completely insensitive of me!"

Davey had a vague recollection of Clarice from the 'lecture' the doctor had given a short time ago. At the time, he'd wondered just how crazy someone had to be to work for the sadistic man. Now he knew.

And he really, really hoped that Clarice hadn't been allowed near his body while he'd been under.

"I've got it," he said in response to her offer of help. Her initial offer, that was. When the second one came, he winced but was going to pass it off as a figure of speech. Then the wailing started.

Davey ground his teeth and prayed for patience. He didn't have enough for all the trials he was suffering in this place. Or was that all the fools he was suffering? Either or.

"Please, stop," he tried to interrupt Clarice. "Look, the doctor wants me to bring back some 'prototype' things from the labs after I get this guy to the infirmary. Maybe you could help me with that?"

At the very least, it would have the dual purpose of hopefully shutting her up and preventing the doctor from making more sarcastic comments if Davey had to transport the thingies one by one. Hopefully.

Ennéa grabbed her backpack and put it on. A mission, a mission, they were going on another mission~ She absently fidgeted with one of the backpack straps as she stood on her tip-toes trying to spot her fellow Phoenix members. The other hunters all seemed nice but she... just didn't feel quite right... going into a dangerous situation without her old teammates at her back.

You're scared?

"Huh?" Ennéa blinked and spun in a circle, looking for the person who had addressed her before she realized it was coming from within her own head. Baraz. She still wasn't quite used to the weapon's presence in her mind. In fact, it was a little creepy, like a person reading over your shoulder all the time and commenting on the plot.

"I'm good." she replied a little impatiently, "A-okay, okey-dokey-smokey-lokey!" Ennéa gave the ahriman in her mind a quick thumbs up and then resumed looking for her teammates. Was that Petra over there?

...smokey-lokey-what? Baraz asked. Oh, whatever. Ennéa had a mental image of leathery wings being refolded and settled. That one of them? he asked.

Ennéa automatically looked in the direction Baraz had mentally indicated. "No, that's Before."

She spotted a familiar head of red hair beyond the other hunter though and smiled in relief, making a straight bee-line for it. "But Jordan is standing a little ways behind Before, so I guess you could say that Before is before him." She giggled a little at her own joke. "Get it, Baraz?"

Oh Jack. Really? The ahriman grumbled.

Ennéa ignored him, utterly distracted as she noticed Maddie and Jerry were standing next to their leader. "Hey everyone!" she called, cheerfully bouncing up to them. She latched onto Jordan's arm and gave him an affectionate squeeze. It was nice already being part of a team.

Ennéa had arrived at the tail end of the group's conversation and it was only then that the implications of what Jerry was saying dawned on her. "Wait, you're not going to be on our team?" Ennéa transferred to Jerry's arm and hung on, pouting vaguely.

Things were always more interesting with Jerry, her singing partner, but Ennéa wanted to be on whatever team Jordan was leading. It looked like Maddie was going to go with Jordan too and Ennéa wanted to be with her friend.

She bit her lip and reluctantly let go of Jerry's arm. "Be careful, okay? Try not to die."

DID SHE REMEMBER HIM? DID SHE? DID SHE?! DID SHE?!?!?! Before's mind was whirring with that hopeful little phrase set on repeat. When the younger girl acknowledged him and his identity, Before could swear he heard the Hallelujah chorus blasting in the background. *w*!!!!! <3333 Yes, YES SHE DIIIIIIIIIIIIID~ or maybe it was because he had just reintroduced himself?

...

Oh hush. Let Before have his moment 8C "You're on our team?! YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!" Normally, Before would have flung his arms around Tika by her admission. But he was shy around her.

Yes, this was shy by Before's standards. He managed to restrain himself and instead gave her the BIGGEST, GOOFIEST, OMG-I-SO-HAPPY grin he could muster.

It was a little creepy.

The grin and the creep factor was toned down (majorly toned down) when he turned his attention to Gale. With a chipper nod to the youngest trainee, Before gave Gale a thumbs up when he volunteered to go fetch Boss. Turning to Bix, the brown-haired hunter offered up half of a fist-bump, solemnly waiting for the return. "Don't leave me hanging, bro!"

His arm was still raised when Ariane arrived. Which was not Bix's fault in any way. Ariane and Gale just returned faster than Before anticipated. "BOSSSSS!!!" he cheered, waving at her with his free hand, "This is Tika! Ain't she got the coolest hair? N-not that yours ain't cool but she just rocks that style! N-not that any of you guys don't look awesome with your hair. I-I mean, if you notice all us Betas have a set of really lovely locks and uh n-not that short hair isn't nice but, uh, yeah!"

Dear God, would someone put Before out of his rambling misery?

Unholy Jack, silly Before, think before you speak next time? Perhaps you might actually be able to impress Tika, hmmmm? his weapon chided.

W-why would I want to impress her?! I-I'm not trying to impress Tika! WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT?!?!?

Bix felt free to interrupt his friend's awkward ramble by just proclaiming. "BROFIST!" and fist bumping Before back. Hopefully that would distract him from his rambles about hair. Bix knew the truth, the slight crush that Before seemed to have on Tika based solely on her unique look. He wondered if the other hunter had said more than a five rambling sentences to her in their whole stay on the island.

"Boss.. err Ariane. Whatever!" He gave her a crooked smile and a playful arm shove. He seemed to have finally recovered from the fact that his dear, domineering Boss was a hottie. She was just.... BOSS! Would she take the initiative and lead in this venture like she had in the island trial? They'd all changed, even in the smallest way, since that time. Thankfully having his friends here had calmed the flopping of Bix's stomach and he was feeling slightly more confident.

"One.. two.." he silently counted the rest. "Nice. We have a group of five." he glanced around then attempted to signal to Caelius. Hadn't he asked to be informed when the groups were decided. "We have our group over here.. uh.. sir?" Was he supposed to call him sir?

"We got your point. Now, do us all a favor and shut up before one of us forces you to," While she did not show it, she was glad that Before was still Before, and that he hadn't changed much after all this time - there was something about him that made her want to punch his face in, yet pat his head at the same time... You just can't stay angry at someone like him. She was glad that he did not change into someone she wanted to punch all the time.

Turning back to the girl Before had introduced as Tika, with her hand still held out for a handshake, she grinned, "Well, it seems like we're on the same team for this mission, so let's get along, shall we?" She would soon realize that Ariane has a very special way of showing her care.

She raised an eyebrow at the arm shove from Bix; now, he is someone who had changed quite a bit... It seemed to her like it was for the better, although she found him a little less annoying in some ways and a little more annoying in others.

At least her 'want to punch him in face' rating for Bix was still on the low side.

"Bix," She greeted, punching him in the arm with a little more force than necessary; she too realized that they had a full group, and her first priority became grabbing their supplies, tossing the loaded backpacks at each of the members in the group, again, with a little more force than necessary. A quick check revealed that there was nothing missing from her bag, and she quickly rejoined the rest of her group.

Addressing Caelius after Bix had called for the man's attention, she chimed in, "We have a full group of five - Bix, Before, Gale, Tika and myself, Ariane."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 05, 2011 6:25 am

Bix rubbed his arm and gave Ariane a disgruntled look. Why did she have to punch so hard?! He sifted through his backpack briefly before putting it on and went back to rubbing the sore spot. While they waited for everyone else to get organized.

He found Ariane sooner than he expected - and then felt rather stupid.

Especially since the only person in the world who could possibly get away with calling him "kid" and not getting shoved for it would be his former Beta "leader." Gale's felt his cheeks flush a dull red with embarrassment, the scowl on his face becoming more pronounced as Ariane grinned cheekily down at him.

"I was just - " he started to say (most likely some lame excuse about how he had just wanted to get away from the others for a few moments), but the older girl had already started to walk away, and reluctantly Gale followed, dragging his feet behind him.

<< Kindly stop pouting. >>

I am NOT, thought Gale, in a somewhat outraged voice mixed with stubbornness. POUTING.

<< I don't believe you in the slightest. >>

When he got back to the group, Before was wearing an enormously, overly cheerful smile that was, well, rather characteristic of the other but still slightly awkward just the same. And then he was rambling about hair, Bix was brofisting him, Ariane was punching him, and Tika was just standing there.

Gale put a hand to his face.

Oy vey.
