Itami It could be my old-man goggles, but it seems a like they increase how often they do that sort of thing year-to-year. It has gone from small here and there attempts at humor to this years series having multiple things per episode. Again, I understand that a show doesn't have to be dark or serious a lot. I enjoyed humor from Kabuto, Den-O, and other rider series. It just seems the tone of Kamen Rider has changed over the years, not just in outfit design (with them resembling metal heroes or other previous tokusatsu more), but with adding in these "cute" moments more often. Since I saw episode 6 today (slow TVNihon subs are slow) I have to add this in to the discussion: Why did they abandon the need for the Radar+Launcher combo already? First episode he fires and the shots are mostly random so he needs the combo. I noticed it an episode or two ago that he used Launcher without Radar targeting and landed every hit like he did when he used the combo. In episode 6 it happens again. I really hope they didn't already say screw it to the continuity of how things work. Kabuto and other shows at least made it near-end before doing things like henshining right into Rider Form gonk The furthest back I've seen a full KR series is probably Den-O. I've seen bits and pieces of Kuuga and only wanted to watch Kabuto because Mizushima Hiro is hot, so I guess I can't really comment too well on the existence of an increase in awkward comedy moments. As for continuity, I honestly didn't even think about it like that. My assumption was that with practice he's getting better and doesn't need to waste screen time targeting if he is confident he can land his target.

I can't see him learning to control the missiles in the air. It just doesn't make sense, like Chewbacca living on Endor. I would have really liked them to keep the need for the combo since it adds a bit to the modules and the amusement of the system. Now Radar is just a glorified telephone without being able to guide missiles or have a need to combo with other things. Hopefully they think to bring it back in some way, such as using it to seek targets that are darting behind cover a lot or teleporting around.

I wasn't thinking he can control missiles in the air, he's just learned how to aim them. Like, I can't control a kickball in mid-air but I can learn how to aim it to go the direction I want, that was my train of thought. If you look at the way the story has been going (and pretty much any KR stories that begin with an inexperienced person wearing the suit) the person gets better as they practice and slowly lose the need for certain crutches. Besides, think about it from a director's point of view. Not having that sequence each time he goes to use something will save money. They could even say that he's been using it all along and they just didn't cut away to SHOW him using it a few times. And, I think you take the usefulness from the radar too early, we're only 7 episodes in, there's a bunch of crap they could add to it between here and the end. Like you said, he could bust it out for an enemy that specifically needs targeting or something. Or maybe he can use it for the bestest, most on-target Rider Kick in history...Also, it isn't UNABLE to guide missiles or combo with other stuff, he's just not using it like that right now I think.

My problem with that is that it isn't like kicking a ball. He can't aim the launcher anymore than he does already by just pointing it in a direction. The missiles themselves are chaotic while in the air, thus the need for Radar to home in on the enemy and give the rockets an easier time hitting the enemy. The key in what you said as well is slowly. There was no sign of him even practicing, much less him using it a second time. If it eased into, it would be more believable. At the very least they should show only a few hit and some miss for a while. I don't know about behind-the-scenes stuff like that, does a director really care about money? I would think a director would more want things to line up how they should compared to previous scenes/episodes/movies and the vision of the series rather than worrying about how much each scene costs. I can't see it costing that much to have a switch appear, especially since they already have done it a few times with Radar just for a call. The problem with hoping for more on it later in the series is that we have more than one rider coming out and they are going very quickly into the 40 switches. They will want to showcase them more rather than going back to Radar. We might see him use it in some way, but it will be very brief and likely won't be combo'd beyond the one time with Launcher and maybe with a switch that is coming up soon. As it is, Radar was used once to combo, I think once to find the Chameleon (don't recall if he did or not, but it was a prime monster to use Radar on) and every instance beyond those of Radar is using it as a phone gonk

Itami There was no sign of him even practicing, much less him using it a second time. If it eased into, it would be more believable... The practicing and hard work he puts into being Kamen Rider Fourze is implied when he persists at the switch that Kengo immediately assumes is useless (I think it was the hopping one). If I remember correctly he spends time training both on the moon and on earth in the suit for several other switches as well, at times with the help of the entire Kamen Rider Club. It'd be silly not to assume he had practiced using more switches than have been shown. He already has too many switches to waste screentime on, and they just keep adding more and more. It'd be silly to show him training with each individual switch when we can tell that he probably does just looking at his personality. The sheer determination he has shown despite epic failing repeatedly is testament to the fact that he's not the type to skip on practicing for the sake of becoming better. Also, on the chaotic-ness of the missiles, we can give excuses to each other about why he can or can't possibly learn to aim the missiles himself all day. Maybe he has been practicing ways to make the missiles come out in a more predictable pattern, maybe he didn't have time to hit the Radar switch when he did it before, who knows? Maybe if he twitches his leg at a very precise moment the missiles come out less erratically. Itami I don't know about behind-the-scenes stuff like that, does a director really care about money? I can't see it costing that much to have a switch appear, especially since they already have done it a few times with Radar just for a call. Yes, the people making the series do care if they have enough money to actually complete each episode, unless they are just a never-ending fountain of money. The state of the "special" effects throughout the years in Kamen Rider alone is testament to the fact that their budget can't be particularly large. The idea is to both make a good episode AND not go over budget with things that can be left out without ruining the way things line up. Being conscious of the budget doesn't mean they're totally okay with ruining the continuity of the story itself, or that they care any less for how well the story comes out on screen. He uses it in exactly the combo you're talking about in episode 8. It seems that he can either choose to use the Radar to target or choose not to and hope he lands his target.

Considering there hasn't been any really-heavy areas of CG or things like the ranger war going on, they should have a large enough budget to add in the effects or be able to do the trick where they cut to something else (like the monster) while having the sound and implying the animation still happens without showing it. ebifry As it turns out this entire argument about the Radar being/not being used to target rockets started too early. I'll have to see episode 8 to see why they add it in, otherwise this just leads me to feel more that its bad continuity rather than anything else. Like I said earlier, there are a number of answers I can pull out of thin air for that because it's a fantasy show and that's not so big a detail that it HAS to be covered in the story. Also, I was saying that he practices ALL of his switches, not just the ones he sucks at. Of course he'd practice his worst switches the most but I get the feeling he doesn't just go until he can say 'okay, I'm not kicking my own butt anymore so this one is in the bag.' Itami I meant is that the directors themselves probably don't care that much about it, nor the writers. I think its the producer or someone in that area who worries about budget. Okay, now you're just nitpicking about who in what department would care about the fact that there's a budget. Does it really matter who the people who worry about that are specifically when the bottom line is that SOMEBODY cares and will step in and yell at somebody else when they're over budget? Either way, we agree that 1) special effects cost money and 2) that they may or may not want to spend for whatever reason. I'm not behind the scenes myself so I don't know the budget, nor can I explain why there aren't any super awesome over the top effects at the moment. Maybe that ugly Dizer thing and constantly showing the moon is super costly or something. Maybe they're saving it for the last episode where they'll try to melt our eyeballs out with special effects every two seconds. Itami That goes against everything about him learning to control it then if it is back. I'll have to see episode 8 to see why they add it in, otherwise this just leads me to feel more that its bad continuity rather than anything else. It doesn't go against him having learned to AIM it, not control it, what it says is that he simply can choose whether or not he'd like to aim it himself or target something. And, there's still the possibility that they just aren't SHOWING him target for whatever reason too. It's not like it's a brand new trick to just not show something and expect the audience's logic to fill in the gaps. I won't give away any plot, but he uses it to target a particularly hard to beat enemy. That's it. There was nothing really special, just "I REALLY need to hit this enemy without missing, he's hard to beat *targets enemy*" That's not a direct quote from the show, but it's what I imagined his logic was when he decided to waste time in a serious fight to stop and target something. Yeah, I think targeting is a waste of time, in a fast-paced fight before you could finish targeting your target will have moved and stopped you from doing so if they had have a brain. Itami To change gears: What is everyone's favorite switch so far? I'd have to say it's the Rocket thing he can punch people with, simply cause I gave it a nickname cause I thought it was funny that he can totally rocket punch people in the face.

Of course he'd practice his worst switches the most but I get the feeling he doesn't just go until he can say 'okay, I'm not kicking my own butt anymore so this one is in the bag.' And I still can't see practicing with something like that equating to perfect hit-ratios as if they were still locking on with another tool. Aiming it at them, sure you can get better. Hitting every shot with something that doesn't have it's own targeting system and is in it's nature wild to shoot is very farfetched. Its like saying that a person with a shotgun can hit every scattered piece of it's ammo into it's target from 20 feet away just by practicing enough. ebifry Okay, now you're just nitpicking about who in what department would care about the fact that there's a budget. Does it really matter who the people who worry about that are specifically when the bottom line is that SOMEBODY cares and will step in and yell at somebody else when they're over budget? Maybe that ugly Dizer thing and constantly showing the moon is super costly or something. Maybe they're saving it for the last episode where they'll try to melt our eyeballs out with special effects every two seconds. Not nit picking, just pointing out that they are separate things. A budget can affect a show, but the directors and writers generally won't worry about it. Someone else will complain about budget things, but there are people whose job it is to keep continuity too. If it truly is because of budget, people are dropping the ball then. Be it the people who are meant to uphold continuity, or the budget people for cutting back on something that really shouldn't cost much versus a lot of other things and hurting continuity in the process. I also can't see them already getting low on money since OOOs was very profitable for them, unless said budget people just suck that badly. All I'm saying on the lack of large effects eating up money is that if they haven't spent a large chunk of budget yet, there's no reason to restrict keeping continuity when the effects involved are very minor. The only logical thing I can see, beyond bad continuity keeping, is time issues. Even then it is very quick for Fourze to summon or unsummon modules. I'd be fine with implied Radar targeting, like I said with the trick of cutting to the monster while they do the sound and assume the module appears and is targeting. Neither case of him using Launcher minus Radar had this which is my problem with it. As for them planning the ending out this far in advanced, it would likely be one of the first times they bothered to do that. A lot of time they don't know how they will approach the ending this early in the show. ebifry It doesn't go against him having learned to AIM it, not control it, what it says is that he simply can choose whether or not he'd like to aim it himself or target something. And, there's still the possibility that they just aren't SHOWING him target for whatever reason too. Yeah, I think targeting is a waste of time, in a fast-paced fight before you could finish targeting your target will have moved and stopped you from doing so if they had have a brain. It goes against it to me, at least the controlling missile hit-ratio part. If we suppose that he did train off camera for so long that he can somehow control chaotic missiles to hit with each one, then turns around and needs to use Radar again, then it just baffles me as to why. Even if it is a tough enemy, unless it teleports or has superspeed or cloaking, then there would be no need for Radar's combo anymore if he can use the module exactly the same without it. ebifry I'd have to say it's the Rocket thing he can punch people with, simply cause I gave it a nickname cause I thought it was funny that he can totally rocket punch people in the face. I like Rocket the most as well due to it's functionality. It provides both a weapon to hit the enemy and acts as a transportation device.

I'm tired of arguing the same thing, neither of us is going to budge obviously so I won't even go there. But, I just thought it was hilarious the reasons we stated for liking Rocket. Itami I like Rocket the most as well due to it's functionality. It provides both a weapon to hit the enemy and acts as a transportation device. ebifry I'd have to say it's the Rocket thing..cause I thought it was funny that he can totally rocket punch people in the face. The contrast there is hilarious and kind of shows where our disagreements on the show are going to be no matter the issue. I need no reasons or explanations (or even logic sometimes) to be completely happy with the show, but clearly you do. Oh, the disagreements that will ensue. Anyway, I was talking with somebody else about Kamen Rider Fourze and we stumbled across the topic of the amount of slots for switches he has and I was wondering what anybody else thought about it. Basically, our thought was that over the last few years the series seem to merely be adding on slots to the belts by default to give the riders more abilities (and not only that, the names of the shows match the number of slots on the belts). Double with 2 slots, OOO with 3, and now we have Fourze with 4. What do you think? Think they'll ever give personalities back to the things giving Kamen Rider power ups as in Den-O and Kiva or will we continue to keep being seeming haphazardly shown new switches. Fourze has 4 slots so like Itami said before the amount of switches he has will expand faster than I care to think about. Even now we're only 8 episodes in and I can't name the switches we've been introduced to. I also noticed a couple of episodes back they just kind of threw a training scene in with some never before seen switches and called it a day for the introduction to those switches...and then, because he already has this many switches a few have fallen into that "I haven't seen them lately so I don't remember them" category for me. And it's not like this is OOO where I can simply guess and have a vague idea of what the new thing he's cramming into his belt is. In OOO I could say, "Oh, it's a green one, it must be something buggy" here I can say "...wtf is that one...oh, it makes his foot all spikey and crud"

With the contrast, it does show our differences in what we want/expect from the show. I watch it for the action and it seems you enjoy it for the humor. For the record however, I can be happy in a show even without logic or explanations involved, as with the case of two shows I've gotten into recently. What I find the most funny myself though is that we both picked the same switch out of the 16 or so shown so far.
For the question on the slots I think the answer is a simple one. Double sold well with memories and the two theme. OOOs sold even better with the triple memory idea. If Fourze does better than OOOs, they will likely push the idea to a five-based rider to sell as many toys as possible. I can't see them keeping this up for much longer beyond that though, maybe up to a six-based rider but that would be stretching things.

KR isn't really that funny to me, I'm not watching it for the humor at all xp
I watch for the action too, but I don't require for the story to make sense all the time. (example: he magically doesn't need to target the rockets and I don't even blink)
And like a lot of stuff I do/watch for fun, I think a lot of the entertainment comes from my own head. I was suggesting that you're needing the show to make more sense logically than I do looking at your last question is all. Funnier than the fact that we chose the same switch was the reason we each cited. Mine made me sound like a 9 year old and yours made you seem more mature and thoughtful.
Double was good, and OOO was good, but to be honest I'm of the mindset that 4 is already pushing it. It's way too much to keep up with. I feel like Double and OOO had story elements that Fourze just hasn't even begun to develop yet and the way I'm a complete nerd about KR but had no idea there were already 16 switches until you said it just now is just sad. Just in OOO the whole 3 medals making a combo thing left hundreds of potential transformations, 4 only makes that number higher and its not like all of his switches are really working together in the same way OOO's did. Yeah, its working together but slightly differently, and to me it feels a little separate. What I am interested in seeing will be Fourze's other forms like the gold-colored one that's all electricy and stuff. I noticed in OOO they left the whole "this is your sword form, your gun form, your kick butt with a stick form" thing out and I want to see specific abilities and advantages they give Fourze overtime. ...and I'm super curious about who's going to become the second rider. The show is already in dire need of one, its bad when you've got cheerleaders controlling the dizer because you're getting your a** handed to you in battle.

To change the subject, what does everyone think Meteor Storm? Personally I think it's nice look. The finisher is a tad silly, but at least its abilities are explained well. Can't wait to see how Ryuusei reveals his identity to the KR Club. (<--------- Has already seen scans, but wont reveal anything. (^^)v )
Also, how do you think the story and characters have developed since we lasted posted in this thread?

The exploding-heart-palm contraption from Kill Bill! Oh-sh!t--it WAS the Exploding-heart-palm from...WAIT! That means? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!" And, it was true. I was right. I had to watch the HOW part of how Meteor killed Gen twice to get my brain to catch up with me. It was pretty surreal, but this is my first KR series, so death probably happens. I just haven't gotten far enough in KROOO to understand it, yet. So, I'm curious if they are going to have a different opening song or after effects collage of sorts for next week's episode opener. This is going to be interesting. I am going to miss Gen.
