"I think that I just have a wonderful sparring partner!" She laughed, trying to land another hit...
...And missing.
"...Though I definitely need more practice." She rubbed at the back of her neck, smiling sheepishly. "I'm sure if you had any other students, I would probably pale in comparison. I...I didn't know anything about fighting or self-defense until I came to this school." She had learned quickly though, this was true. Most, if not almost all, if her skills had to be credited to Levi. Without the tatzel's advice, this battle...

He smiled brightly at her and laughed. "I think you are quite misjudging me, my dear Xiu. I am merely helping you to enhance your own abilities through...er, well, beating me up."
"And just because you have no experience with fighting does not mean - "
Sparrow disappeared in a gust of black smoke, his body dissipating. It swirled around, then twisted in a circle around the baku before settling just beside her. Tendrils curled up and out as the reaper reappeared, reforming into his humanoid form.
" - that you are cannot be good at fighting," he finished, and swung the weapon in a wide arc, sliding it around Xiu's torso and sending her flying off to the side.
[ HP: 15/30
Target: Xiu.
Damage: 4.
FEAR Attack: Using the blade to "capture" the shadow, Sparrow can hold an opponent in place long enough to do at least some sort of damage. ]

Xiu yelped in surprise at the strike, trying to turn herself in the air in an attempt to ensure that she didn't land too awkwardly. Unfortunately, this wasn't something that she had yet perfected, so her landing was...
...Less than graceful.
Despite the fact that she was wincing, she immediately pushed herself back to her feet, knees bent and fists up. At the very least, she seemed to be a stubbornly determined fighter. "I still have a long way to go." "Ow."
Xiu's throw hadn't hit him too hard, but it was hard enough that Sparrow staggered backwards several steps, rubbing his chest where her fist had hit. He swung the scythe out a bit halfheartedly, but it missed, swiping through the air with a small whoosh.
"See?" said Sparrow, a bead of sweat sliding down his face as he stumbled a bit, winded and starting to grow rapidly more tired. "You're doing delightfully well already."

Perhaps Sparrow was right--she really wasn't doing all that bad--but as the baku dodged back to avoid any more attacks, she realized that she was panting pretty hard. While she was used to practicing everyday in her dorm room, attacking and inanimate object was nothing like sparring with another living being.
Without much warning, the baku suddenly flopped onto the ground, emitting a loud sigh of relief. "S-sorry Sparrow, could we...could we end it here?" She was tired, that much was for certain, and she felt that the reaper was probably starting to become the same. Sitting up, she grinned up at the boil as she peeled off her fake mustache (and promptly winced while doing so).
"Thank you again for agreeing to battle me!"

He leaned forward, his hands on his knees as he tried to get air back into his lungs. Clearly Sparrow was not nearly as experienced in fighting as he wished to be, but this had been both a good learning experience and a fun time with the baku. He had started to enjoy her company quite a bit, after all.
"I think that's a great idea," he replied, wiping his forehead with a handkerchief. He beamed down at Xiu, and smiled brightly, extending his hand to help her to her feet.
"Any time you want to fight, just let me now, okay?" Sparrow told her, and flicked his wrist, the shadow scythe disappearing in a cloud of black smoke.
"And thank you for being such a worthy opponent," he added with a grin, ducking down into a deliberately over extravagant bow.

She took his offered hand and got up, grinning at his offer. "Y-yes! I'll keep that in mind, thank you!" Xiu would definitely take him up on that offer again someday. It was nice to spar with a friend once in a while, though she would have to get over that feeling guilt every time she punch or kicked someone.
For a moment, Xiu was caught off guard by the bow, her eyes widening. However, a grin spread across her lips as she recovered, dipping herself down into a low curtsy. "No, thank you." As she straightened up, she noticed the fake mustache she still had in her hand. After a moment of pause, she held it up.
"Did this help? Maybe I should wear it to all my spars, then!" She beamed, wide-eyed and wagging her tail.
No, Sparrow. Don't let her do it.

"You're welcome," said Sparrow, wincing a bit as he pulled Xiu up. He rubbed his lower back, his body aching a bit unpleasantly, but for the most part he felt quite accomplished at the battle. Xiu had fought admirably, and she had done much better than he had expected - it was a rather nice surprise - as was the mustache.
Which she was now holding up and smiling brightly about.
"Er," said Sparrow hesitantly. He almost said no. Then he gave a small, mildly exasperated sigh and said "Yes. Yes it did."
Then he offered her his arm. "Shall I escort you back to the school, kind lady?"

Oh, yay! "I'll keep that in mind for next time, then." She promised, glancing down at the mustache before she stuffed it back into her obi for safe-keeping.
When he offered his arm, she laughed, taking it gratefully and giving a polite half-boy. "Thank you, sir. Lead the way!"
That battle really hadn't gone too half bad, had it? She would definitely have to practice more, though!
