Crisiant had passed him and she hadn't just passed him, she had nipped the edge of his wing too. Zamyr couldn't help but smile fondly as he found a solid footing in the sand and started to regain what he had lost with that dune. Now it was time to worry about Crisiant.
Zamyr focused his attention not on the doe taking a slight lead but on the landscape that had been his undoing in the first place. He wasn't about to make the same mistake twice. Before long he had caught her and he could see the red area approaching quickly. It looked like it was stone. Great rust colored stones poking up out of the golden sands. How fascinating.
Keeping his eyes forward he opened a wing and brushed it against Crisiant's side. "What do you say we continue on in together?" He inquired casually sounding ever so slightly out of breath. Long distance sprints could take a toll on the body.

Zamyr found it easy to catch up with the doe. Her stamina over the dunes wasn't great. Though the place felt like home, she'd never ran within it, and thus, she was sorely tried, and used to a much slower pace of travelling.
She felt completely out of shape!
With Zamyr's wing brushing her side, her head jerked back in surprise, before she glanced over at him.
Unlike her new-found friend, her breaths puffed audibly.
The drive to win was great, but the run itself had been fun, and Zamyr was proving a very comfortable companion to be around. Why win, then? Obligingly, her pace slowed, her expression grateful as she nodded.
"S-Sure~!" With a toss of her head, laughter bubbled up and out as her pace dropped significantly without immediately slowing to a walk, which would probably only hurt herself after the headlong sprint. Sky blue eyes danced, able to fully take in the sight ahead of them, and she gave a spritely little hop as she trotted onwards.
"Ohhh, look Zamyr, it's so pretty!"

Zamyr slowed in time with his companion until they were moving along at a more comfortable speed. He took in a deep breath to give his pounding heart some relief. He grinned as Crisiant bounced. She sounded a little worn out but she certainly didn't show it.
"It is." He agreed admiring the scenery. There was nothing quite like it back home. His people had some pretty amazing things back home too, of course, but no mineral field or cactus forest could compare to the great rock monstrosities he was seeing now. The color of the ground was changing already from pale to a dusty red and the spectacular rocks still seemed so far away. Perhaps they should have kept racing a little longer?
Oh well, there was no point in starting back up again now. He scanned the area trying to decide where to head first. There were some smaller stone pillars that looked closer but slightly less impressive or the full line of them in the distance. "Well, Crisiant, it seems we have a choice!" He proclaimed. "We can start our investigation at those..." he said nodding to the smaller ones. "Or those." He concluded with a sweep of his wing to gesture to the ridge in the distance. "The choice is yours to make."

After the bounce, though she was still animated, the plucky mare settled into a more leisurely pace, attempting to keep her muscles limber despite her huffed breaths. Bright eyes flicked around and back rapidly, as though she couldn't take in enough at the same time. This, too, eventually slowed and became more easy.
Her head ducked, lowered, puffing a strong gust of breath against the changing sand, delighted when it still drifted as easily as before she'd met Zamyr.
And then she was presented with a choice.
How dreadfully delightful!
The mare stopped, looking towards the stone pillars more readily available - no less impressed by them than the others - and then her gaze switched to the ones looming farther away.
It was a surprisingly hard decision, and she tilted her head one way, then the other.
"How long do you think it would take us to reach the others?" On the other hoof, this exploration of these smaller ones would give her time to recuperate after such a long run. "These ones look pretty nifty. I don't think we should overlook them, just 'cause they're smaller than the ones waaaay over there."

"Hmmm..." Zamyr looked at the pillars of in the distance and made a few quick calculations in his head. He figured it would take them anywhere from two hours to three hours to reach the larger ones. He didn't get to relay this information immediately because Crisiant was still voicing her decision making process.
"So, off to the smaller ones then?" He asked turning to face them. There was no bad decision here and if these weren't as nice they could always travel to the other ones after. He didn't expect they would be a let down though. Even if they were on the smaller side they were still gigantic and still interesting. Who knew what else might linger around them anyway? They could be in for some spectacular surprise.

"Sure." She agreed, dipping her head in a happy nod.
That seemingly decided, she turned towards the pillars that loomed close, her small tail flicking upright, perked and interested. She made sure Zamyr was with her, even slowing if necessary so they could walk easily with one another.
She took a better look at the ones in the distance, but it was still somewhat hard to gauge.
"...four hours, do you think? To get to them?"

Zamyr trotted along happily beside Crisiant. His eyes darted this way and that as he tried to take in everything there was to see all at once. He was hungry for information and this place was like a ten course meal. The ground was harder than the sand on his feet but the dust made from it was somehow much softer. There were strange plants growing around and some of them seemed to be growing directly out of solid rock. Then there were the little pools in the rock. They had passed by two small ones now, had Crisiant noticed them or did she think they were just holes? Zamyr had noticed, with his quick eyes, that there was actually a shallow layer of water in them. What was the reason for that he wondered.
His endless pondering was interrupted by Crisiant's voice. For half a second he thought that she was talking about the little rock pools but quickly realized she meant the larger pillars in the distance. "From here I think a bit less than that." He replied doing some more calculations in his head. "From our target destination...I think a bit more maybe." Either way a few hours was a short trip in Zamyr's book and the journey was always worth it.

Crisiant's bright eyes took in the sights, but her perusal of the area wasn't nearly so keen as her companion's. She saw the shallow pools, kind of, but didn't really pay attention; her sights were set on some of the plants, and she drifted away to sniff delicately at them, tilting her head this way and that to get a better look at them before she decided if they were safe to touch.
She felt that her chances were fairly good with this one, and gently nosed at it before perking up at the response.
"Sounds good~" She almost chirped, a bit of eager spunk to her tone.
She snorted at the plants, and then jumped back at the slight billow of dust, eyes wide in playful delight. It was that way she consciously noticed the ground was harder. How interesting!
"This. Is. Socool."

If Crisiant had noticed the little pools than it was clear she didn't care about them. that was more than alright though as she seemed to have taken on a new interest in the plant life...and in the dust. He grinned as she leaped backward much like a foal would when encountering a strange, new, leaping bug.
"Isn't it just?" He asked briefly wondering what those plants might taste of. He didn't imagine it was anything like cactus. Perhaps later into their venture he might like to try one, particularly if he couldn't find small pray to catch. He turned to look back at the large rock pillars they were heading to. "Now...just think about what amazing things wait for us there!" As he spoke he could barely contain his excitement. His feathers started twitching and he subconsciously scrapped at the ground with his claws in eagerness.
He wouldn't race off, they would get there together and the journey was always half the fun, but oh was he ever curious.

"Yeah-huh~" She nodded emphatically in response, her gaze still on the ground with her head quirked to the side. Her ears were pricked forwards, and she blew at the dusty dirt again with a slight sound.
A mini-squeal of delight.
Her head lifted after he spoke again, sky-coloured eyes looking into the looming distance that beckoned them ever-closer. And then her gaze drifted to her companion, and she laughed, enchanted by his enthusiasm. He was going to be an awesome friend, that was for sure.
Her tail twitching in mischief, she crept over as best she could, and gave him a firm nudge.
"Antsy to get going, Zammy?"
...nicely done, Cris. Give him a nickname, why don't you? She didn't seem to look flustered by it, or even bothered. It popped out naturally and she wasn't going to apologize for it unless he was put off by it.

Zamyr felt the sudden addition of weight on his side as Crisiant nudged him. To keep from stumbling about he shifted his own weight towards the opposite side drawing the foreleg closest to Crisiant up in preparation to step in case the movement was needed. Thankfully his companion hadn't thrown her full weight at him and, aside from looking silly, the only thing that happened was Zamyr cut a few shallow gouges into the surface of the rock beneath his talons. He set his other foot down trying to pretend that his overly animated reaction had not just happened.
"I am." He replied not saying anything about the nickname. He wasn't used to them but perhaps that was because he had always spent so much time alone. It wasn't necessarily by choice but he had once been solitary all the same. Perhaps shortened names were normal between friends and his was now 'Zammy.' "Don't tell me you aren't." He teased with a look of fake surprise. "And here I thought you were looking forward to this trip. I suppose we should turn around and take you back to that dune where we met...which one was it?"
