"It involves some chance is all I meant, not that you wouldn't do it," he clarified, still smiling despite the apparent offense she had taken to his remark about possibly not having to do anything soon, "If they have their cubs at separate times and the other midwife happens to be around closer to the time, you may miss the opportunity to work."
He shrugged, it wasn't a big deal, it was luck. And they needed two midwives to make sure one was always within reach when they were needed.
"Of course, you could also end up with both," he added.

The black lioness looked at her father and raised a single eyebrow. "Gee thanks Dad. That makes me feel soooooo much better," the sarcasm was dripping off her tongue in drops large enough to fill the watering hole. But for all that, there wasn't as much bite in Caritas' voice as there could be. He was her Dad, he deserved that much.
She levered herself to her feet. "I get the feeling I should go before you manage to talk me into stalking our two would-be mothers or something equally embarrassing," she pointed out.

Uli grinned, giving the strong impression that exact suggestion might have come next if the conversation continued. Her attitude begged for it, really. And it was more fun for him that way.
"Maybe you should," he said, managing not to laugh this time, though still smiling brightly at her.

Caritas snorted, flicked her tail in Ulivuma's general direction, and turned to go.
A few steps away, she paused and turned back. "Or maybe I should go so that you and Mom can work on getting me some more siblings," the lioness retorted with a wink. It was only fair, after all.
Feeling much better, she continued onwards to her own den and some silent contemplation.

At that potentially uncomfortable remark, Uli only snorted and held back another laugh. She had no idea that he and Mawu had been discussing that more seriously again recently, there would be no more surprises and considering the current social situation in the pride they had decided it was best to wait a bit.. but it was cheering to know there was at least one lion out there who would be happy.
"Have a good evening, Caritas!" he called after her before settling back down to wait for his mate to return.
