"Biting your tongue off is when it gets really troublesome," Nahm said. "One of the cousins did that once. Couldn't talk for a couple days till he could get in to see the FEARhealer and get it fixed." He shrugged. "The second and third rows of teeth come in later, or it'd probably happen more often." "Got no sibs, huh?" he asked, tilting his head. "At least there's lots of people around here. You can make some friends and have someone to hang out with." At the question, his eyes widened slightly, their greenish glow brightening. "No," the grue said, sounding surprised. "Sure we fight and stuff, sometimes we even get pissed at each other for real, but I dunno what I'd do if he wasn't there. It'd just be - weird. Being alone all the time?" He shook his head. He couldn't imagine it. Even if Ahm hadn't been there (and that was a bizarre enough thought in its own right), he wouldn't have been alone much; being alone in a grue clanhold took some real effort to pull off.

"It sounds entirely unpleasant. I do not recall the one time where I almost did such a thing. I am relieved by this, if we are to be frank." How fascinating; Grues had three rows of teeth? "Might I see the teeth? The additional rows?" He was curious; how did they all fit? His own single row barely did. Ash nodded reproachfully at the question. "I had a sister, but she was not strong. She perished, but it was before I was born." His parents had been especially hard on him, after knowing that they had already had one failure of a child. "Interesting. I...cannot fathom constant companionship. It sounds...nice. I have. My..boilfriend?" He was still unsure, always unsure, they told him to be afraid and to never take anything for granted-- "Is Thackery. He is a cerberus." A pang of loneliness struck him, as it had been building for a little in the conversation. "I am sorry to be abrupt, but I may ...I may depart to find him, when my food is done." It tasted like dust in his mouth-- how could he be sure Thack was safe without seeing him? What if he was-- Ash forcefully pushed the thoughts away, hissing through his teeth.

"Sure," Nahm said easily. "Can't take the hood off, severe light allergy, but if you lean over and look you should be able to see a bit." He tugged his scarf further down around his throat, adjusted the hood to let a small amount of light fall across his face, and opened his mouth wide; his jaw hinged back under his ears, gaping wide enough to fit a foxfire. Behind the outer row of sharklike teeth a second row gleamed faintly; behind that, the third row emerged further back along the sides of his jaw, heavy, blunt grinding teeth.  He closed his mouth and readjusted the hood to throw shadow across his face again after allowing a few good moments for Ash to look. "Haven't got the trick of unhinging it proper yet," he said casually. "Got to train special to swallow anything bigger than a cannon cat whole." "Sorry to hear that," he said, nodding somberly. "Oh ho. Boilfriend?" Nahm sounded cheerfully interested. "Good on you. Is he cute?" A grin. "Must be cute if you think about him and you gotta go find him right away."

Ashford leaned over the cafeteria table...and stared at the teeth in a stunned and appreciative silence.
"Those are most impressive." He did not want to put any part of him anywhere in the near vicinity of that mouth, especially given the fact that Nahm said they eat ...everything.
Oh Jack, did he say a whole CANNON CAT?
Another dumbfounded stare, causing him to blink green eyes owlishly. "Ah."
He would need to fully put together the thoughts regarding this fact later-- he was used to larger beasts consuming things, but for such a pint sized fellow...!
"There is no need for an apology, as you did nothing to incite the need for it. However, I believe I grasp your sentiments for my solitude." A resolute nod-- he was familiar with this. Thackery often apologized for no reason.
"He..." A perplexed expression crossed the reaper's face, wanting to be sure that he was using the correct word for Thackery. "Cute is an apt descriptor, and very kind." He fished his cellphone out, and pulled up a picture of the boil.

"Just weird, thinking about anyone being alone," Nahm said, tilting his head to the side slightly, watching Ash with a sharp and interested gaze. "For me, anyway. What's it like?"
He leaned across the table to get a look at the picture. "Jack, you got a good one," he said cheerfully. "Cute as a minipet. He good in bed?"

Ashford took his time in answering, letting the thoughts roll around in his head.
"It is quiet. Silence permeates your bones, and there is nothing to occupy your mind with but idle activities and your own thoughts. It is fine, for a time. But it gets tiring."
He smiled at Nahm's comment. "Absolutely adorable. He is proficient in bed."
Of course, Ash was thinking about cuddling. That is what Nahm meant, right?
Regardless, the reaper was done with his meal. He tidied up, placing every utensil back on his tray, standing. "I thank you for the company. I hope to see you in my classes, for your presence is amiable."
And then he offered Nahm a gloved hand to shake.

Nahm nodded thoughtfully, storing the information away in his head. It might be useful someday.
"Lucky boil," he said, and smirked. "It's always the cute little quiet ones."
A gloved hand for a gloved hand; Nahm's handshake was firm and confident. "See you around," he said casually.
