Hearing Mitsu's question, Shun looked over towards her, blinking. Thinking it for a moment, he shook his head.
"It's nothing," he said softly, "You're.. doing a good job so far. Considering this is your first time doing anything like this."
Nodding, he stepped back.
"Alright. Start blocking my strikes. I'll start off slow. If you seem to be doing good I'll pick up speed," he said, "I'll using both kicks and punches. So keep an eye on how my body is moving and react accordingly."

Well, either nothing was bothering Shun or he didn't want to talk about it. Too bad Mitsu wasn't sure which of the two it was. The praise though had her perking up a bit feeling a little better about what she was doing. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
"Start blocking?" Oh..OH RIGHT, she should probably get into a stance. Quickly, or as quickly as Mitsu could manage, she went into the stance Shun had shown her. Though there was a little bit of shuffling and adjusting her feet into the right places to stabilize her balance. Would an opponent wait? Mitsu felt that was unlikely.
"I-I'll do my best." Wait...kicks? They hadn't really gone over kicks just punches.

There was only a moment or two of pausing before he began to slowly strike out for her. He wasn't aiming to spar here and all. Going all out would do little to teach such a beginner anything. Even he knew that much.
Though... quite frankly, he couldn't really remember much of his early training. At all. Which.. was a little odd. Hmmm...
Shrugging that off, he started off with two punches, before following up with a kick.
"These blocks can be used to deflect most striking attacks. The fundamentals are the same if you're blocking a hand or foot strike."

There was only a moment for Mitsu to collect her thoughts before Shun began. She nearly panicked as he threw a hand out even if it was slow, but thankfully she brought her arms up to block just in time.
She managed again with the second punch but as she feared the kick caught her off guard. The mask limited her ability to see down and she had not seen the movement coming until it was too late. Thankfully though the kick wasn't so much of a kick as a tap. Shun wasn't out to attack, though if he was Mitsu knew she didn't stand a chance.
Quietly though Mitsu fell back into stance only slightly frustrated. It was her first time after all, it wasn't like studying for class or reading a book. This was a completely different game all together.

She managed to block the first two attacks pretty well, though his kick had gotten through.
"Good. Though keep an eye on my center of gravity. If I'm going to strike, my whole body has to move to some extent. It'll be easier than focusing on my fists or my feet respectively. Let's do this for a little longer."
Nodding, Shun went on to perform a series of strikes to see how she'd fair. He kept to roughly the same speed he did before, but he varied where he was attacking and how he was doing that. Perhaps after this, they could move on to some basic strike techniques with the girl.
But.. he knew well enough that it would take more than just one session to teach her.

"Okay," Watching his torso seemed easier than trying to keep an eye on both his hands and his feet all at once. Honestly Mitsu had no idea why she hadn't thought of that herself. Though shortly after thinking that she answered her own question. Because she had never fought a day in her life.
Keeping his advice in mind Mitsu followed through to block as he started up another round of throwing light punches and kicks. It did help to watch his torso but that didn't keep her from lagging here and there or panicking in her movements. A few punches and a kick or two would have made their way through but it seemed she was catching on.
When they paused again Mitsu brought up a hand to push some hair out of her eyes. "Did you struggle when you first started to learn doing this sort of thing?" Shun seemed so good at it she couldn't imagine him struggling much.

As he worked with Mitsu, he was trying to think of ways that could make this easier for her to learn. But, it seemed that she was catching on pretty well.Shun wasn't sure if she'd be able to block an attack strike from him, but he was certain she'd get there eventually.
At her question, though, he paused, trying to remember.
"I probably did. But.. I don't really remember much of my early training. I think I started really young."

"Oh," Mitsu wasn't sure if that was all too reassuring. "So you've been training for a long time then." The lycan already knew he had been training for a long time, but so long he couldn't remember the beginning? And it was possibly deep down Mitsu might have wanted to be reassured that it wasn't easy. It was silly because common sense told her it wasn't easy, it would require work but it was another thing to hear it.
"Do you think it will take me a long time to be any good?" Mitsu asked curiously. She had no idea what kind of time frame she was looking at though she supposed it would depend on her goals as a whole.

Nodding in response to how long he had been training, Shun lowered his hands before looking to her as she asked the next question.
"That depends on what you want. If you wish to become a master at this... it will take a lifetime," he said before glancing away, "Sometimes not even that."
"If you want to have a good grasp of all the basics... that could take a few weeks to a few months, depending on how quick of a learner and how devoted you are. A lot of what this is, is muscle memory. The more you do it, the better you'll get. The more you push and challenge yourself, the more you will grow."

The subtle gestures in Shun's stance and what he said had Mitsu wondering if he felt he couldn't obtain that goal. Did he feel that becoming a master was such an unattainable goal?
"I think a basic understanding would be okay?" She looked up at him in a questioning manner. It wasn't like she was raised a fighter, she just wanted to know a bit more so that she could defend herself and help her friends. She didn't want to be the weak link, the one that held everyone back. And most importantly she didn't want someone else to get hurt because of her.

"Then it shouldn't take too long, relatively speaking," He said quietly in return, "We could make a semi regular schedule of this to help speed up that process. One day of tips isn't really going to teach you a whole lot."
Shun paused at that thought before looking at her more directly, "Though, you're going to have to practice on your own time as well."
Nodding at this, he took in a deep breath and got back into stance.
"Alright. We'll cover some basic strikes now. You have quite a bit of power in your legs so we'll go over kicks. I suggest you aim low with these. The higher you kick, the better the chance of someone to catch your foot. Striking their legs will slow them down in any case," he explained before showing off a roundhouse in slow motion.
"That's a roundhouse kick. Watch my movements carefully."

It was a relief to hear that it wouldn't take too long. If she kept to it maybe she would have the basics down in no time. Practicing on her own wouldn't be a problem she would just need to know what to do.
Seeing the reaper fall back into stance Mitsu watched him carefully. Her eyebrows knitted together behind her mask. They were moving onto hits already? At least he was focusing on something he was sure she would be good at. She knew she had strength in her legs though she had also been building up the strength in her arms as well.
"Does it happen often that someone catches your foot?" She asked curiously before she watched Shun complete the roundhouse kick in slow motion. He did it so well she wasn't sure she could mimic the move. Everything so far had been blocking which didn't require a lot of coordination, mostly just a solid stance. This was spinning and as Levi and Mot had learned during their dance lesson, spinning was not Mitsu's strong point. She had gotten used to it a little but it was hard to master.

"It depends. People who are more experienced will have a greater chance to try and catch your foot. It's happened to me a few times. But if you aim for the knees, it's generally harder for them to do that. That aside, it would reduce their mobility, which would come in handy for if you need to flee," Shun explained. Running was not something he enjoyed to do. But with Mitsu, he knew there were probably times where a retreat would be most ideal for her. He was trying to teach her to protect herself, not to beat up other people, after all.
"Alright. Lift up your knee like this, then twist your waist... from there that's when you kick. I'll steady you as needed," he said before moving closer to her so he could do just that.

The ability to flee was ideal, though if a friend was in trouble Mitsu wasn't so certain she would be able to leave on her own. Knowing how to fight would improve her chances of being able to protect her friends as well as herself.
Following Shun's instruction Mitsu waited for him to stand beside her before she lifted her knee like he told her. Already she could feel her balance was a little off. After a moment of steadying herself she tried to continue. She tested out slightly twisting at the waist first. That wasn't so bad. Maybe she could do this.
After she thought she had that movement down Mitsu brought her knee up, twisted at the waist and kicked....and quickly found her other foot coming out from under her from the force. Her own kicking momentum had thrown her off balance sending her falling into Shun. Mask now slightly askew on her face she tiled her head up to look at the reaper in an apologetic way. "M..maybe that was a bit much?"

Shun was watching Mitsu carefully as she went through the motions of the kick. It started off going pretty well but then her balance ended up getting thrown off. Catching her, the Reaper froze momentarily as he held her steady. Lingering there for a moment, he cleared his throat and released her once he knew she was stable.
He.. was trying not to think about how close she was right now. It was a little distracting.
"Ah.. yes," he said, "When you kick, you need to lean back with your upper body to counter weight yourself."
