They warm rock beneath her, the hot sun above. So this was living. Despite how awful the first few hours of life outside of her BCR, Ginevra was able to enjoy it. She recovered surprisingly quickly from the cold, thank the 'Deities. It was odd, but she didn't question it. Chocking it up to the flames, which grew stronger and stronger by the second, was good enough for her.
Ginevra stretched luxuriously along the ground, rolling around on the warm rock. It felt so nice. Suddenly, she accidentally rolled onto something, or someone. How could she have forgotten the existence of the 'Phim who had saved her? She rolled off quickly, lowering herself to the ground to examine him. She hoped he was okay, but couldn't tell with him sleeping.
The other kit woke up, very suddenly, soon enough, though. Ginevra had startled him, on accident, of course, and he seemed angry. "I'm sorry," she said, lowering her eyes to her paws. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay. You did save my life, after all." She glanced up at his face, glad to see that his expression has softened some. "I understand you must have been tired; I tried to let you sleep as long as possible.
"Thank you, really," she said graciously. "My name is Ginevra. I'm afraid that's all I really know about myself, though."

Draconis simply frowned at first, but he was no longer completely angry. "That's all you know about yourself?" He repeated questioningly. "How is that even possible? And what were you doing up there all on your own? Where are you parents?" Even though they were both kits, it was clear this Ginevra vixen was still younger than he was. Without really waiting for any answers, Draconis sighed and shook his head.
"Look, there's no real need to thank me or anything. Or to apologize." He shrugged. "It makes no difference, really. You were there, and some instincts just took over. I could see you weren't well, and there really weren't any other options. Sure, I probably could have just left you there, but that seems too heartless for even someone like me."
Draconis honestly didn't know why he had even said all that. He was a bit of a loner, and thus never said much to anyone. But this vixen, for some reason, he just continued to elaborate everything to. The 'Phim didn't know why, and decided to just chock it all up to growing up or something. Whatever.
"Look," he repeated, going off on a whole new tangent. "We should probably go find your parents. Got any idea where they went, what they look like? You do know what your parents look like, right?" Draconis looked at the 'Daeva expectantly, but doubted that the response would be what he expected.

It was now Ginevra's turn to frown. "Fine, don't accept my thanks or apology," she said, doubting that this was the conventional way of going through all of this. But then, what did she know? This 'Phim was the first fox she had ever spoken to.
"Well, I had just hatched from my BCR when you found me," Ginevra told him. She understood that he probably hadn't seen the rest of the capsule already buried under the snow. "Through an unlucky turn of events, I just wound up on that freezing cold mountain with neither of my parents, nor any other fox, in sight. Not until you arrived, of course." The 'Daeva sighed, wondering what had happened. She knew she had a family, but had no idea why they would just leave her on a mountain like that. "Maybe they just left me. Or they could have just accidentally dropped me while flying over the mountain. Or they just left me..."
The thought saddened her, as it would any other abandoned kit. Ginevra curled up on the ground, staring hard at the space between Draconis's two front paws. "I know I'm not much help," she said, sounding miserable. "And you probably don't want to sit around listening to me whine and all that. Feel free to leave me if you want. You can just... go on back to your own family. You probably have a loving family full of other 'Phims, living in a nice forest or some place..." Ginevra trailed off; she had to stop before she depressed herself even more. She didn't know the first thing about doing anything on her own.

Needless to say, Draconis was caught completely off guard. He didn't interrupt her at all as Ginevra spoke. The young 'Phim couldn't fathom that parents, even 'Daevas, would just neglect their own child in this way. Perhaps in other ways, sure, but to leave them, even unintentionally, atop a mountain as a mere BCR... Draconis shook his head of these thoughts and returned his attention to Ginevra. He didn't know how to go about comforting this vixen, so for the longest time Draconis just stood there, staring down at her.
'Ah well, at least she isn't actually crying,' he noticed. That was good. Odd, but good. He wasn't prepared to complain about it, despite how weird it seemed. Perhaps it was just a 'Daeva thing. Fire everywhere, sounds like things such as tears would be too out of place, even at birth, at one's most vulnerable. It was this observation that really made Draconis want to comfort her somehow. Slowly, unsurely, he trotted over to her and patted her head lightly with a paw.
"Don't worry about it."

Ginevra looked back up at him at his words, eyes completely dry but still conveying sadness. Draconis's words were short and simple, but they were enough. She smiled up at him as he patted her head. "Alright, I guess," she said. "I won't. But what are we supposed to do now?" Ginevra stood back up now, eyes turning up towards the sky. She was searching for something, anything, that may indicate her parent's returning to find her. There was nothing to be seen.

Draconis watched blankly as Ginevra got up and stared at the sky. Inwardly, he was trying to find a solution to their predicament. He sighed quietly before saying, "You were wrong earlier. I don't exactly live with a loving family full of other 'Phims. It is a nice forest, but it's only my mother, sister and I. 'Loving' is also a bit of a stretch. My older sister is a little... Bitter. She's a normal. As for my mother, she's been raising us on her own. Father left us with no word of explanation."
Draconis didn't know why he was saying all of this. Perhaps to make her feel better about her own situation? Even though in his opinion, she still had it worse. At least he wasn't completely alone.
"Anyways," he continued after clearing his throat some. "Perhaps I could take you back home with me. I don't think my mother would mind, and my sister is fully grown now, so she no longer needs taking care of. I don't think Mother would be able to turn you away, once she hears everything. You're only a kit, after all, and you don't seem to have many 'Daeva-like tendencies yet."

Ginevra turned back to Draconis as he began to tell the story of his family. Had she understood, it probably would have affected her a little more. Only by the 'Phim's tone of voice and manner of storytelling could she draw the conclusion that it was an uncommon, and less than ideal, living situation.
Still, the thought of family sounded beautiful. "You would bring me home with you? Really?" Ginevra asked, just to be certain. It all seemed too good to be true. Though she yearned for her own, Ginevra just wanted someone, anyone. What did she want with foxes who just abandoned her on top of a mountain, anyways?

Draconis nodded and replied, "Yeah, I don't see why not."
... [End Flashback]...
'Don't see why not. Hmph. Is that what I said to her.' A much older Draconis thought disdainfully. 'And therein lies my problem.' Rolling his eyes and turning over onto his back, the 'Phim stared up at the sky instead of his reflection. Sure, the rest of his kithood hadn't been so bad with her around. It was much less dull and fairly interesting.
But what difference did it make! She was getting on his nerves. Constantly. Although, to be fair, he instigated this argument and was the reason it went a little too far... Perhaps he even felt some... remorse?
No. Don't be ridiculous.

Her reminiscing period over, Ginevra knew she had to make things right with Draconis. Regardless of who's fault it was, regardless of who would take the first step to apologize, Ginevra knew that the problem would never be solved if they weren't anywhere near each other. The 'Daeva didn't know why, but there was undoubtedly something about the 'Phim; somehow she just needed him. It was unbearable to leave things on such horrid terms. There was no explanation as to why she even cared; did she need one? Did flames need a reason to cling to her paws? No.
So she flew in the direction she knew Draconis had disappeared to. Down the side of the mountain, over the trees; it didn't take long until she found him at the edge of the water. She landed lightly beside him, knowing that he was already well aware of her presence. The 'Phim didn't speak, so she didn't either. Ginevra simply stared at her own reflection in the waters of the clear lake, and then at his. For a long time, these two old companions remained in this state of silence.

It was Draconis who first broke the silence. "You remember that day, I'm sure, when I first brought you home," he paused long enough to see Ginevra's short nod of affirmation. "You recall, then, the fit my older sister threw when she learned that mother had agreed to take you in. The jealousy that flashed in her eyes as she tried time and again to convince mother of how dangerous you would turn out to be." Draconis paused again, his mind wandering through a short flashback of that day. "Moral of the story: if I hadn't saved you, I would have been stuck with that bitter, old vixen for the rest of my life.
"I know I shouldn't have said those things. Honestly, I'm quite sure my life is... more interesting... with you in it." The 'Phim didn't know why he had started to ramble. It really was something he could only do around her; never had he been so close to another fox.

Ginevra smiled slightly. "Well, it's not an apology, Draconis, but I'll take it all the same," she said. "I mean, really, it's not like I'm wholly ungrateful, and you know that." With a sigh, the 'Daeva lay down beside the water, her long tail dipping in slightly. Apparently every problem they had could be solved with a little time apart; it had always been this way.
"You remember, I'm sure," Ginevra began again, mirroring his earlier words, "the first time we argued over something insignificant. All that business over the bird I was trying to keep as a pet."

Draconis rolled his eyes. Yes, he remembered that very well. "Of course. You blamed me for setting it free because I was just so jealous that you were giving it all of your attention," the 'Phim let out a bark of laughter. It was only the most ridiculous notion he had ever heard. "As if I had to compete with some bird for your affections.
"And then you refused to believe that my sister was the one who freed the thing, even though you know it's something she would do." At the time, that was the part of the story that had frustrated Draconis to no end. Only his sister would have any enjoyment to gain by ridding the family of Ginevra's pet.

Ginevra raised an eyebrow at Draconis's comment. "Right, because there's still no way I would love you over any other potential pet bird," she responded. "Besides, at the time I had no way of knowing your sister was really that bad. I was just a kit, and really had only just met her." Draconis really had warned her, but she thought he had been exaggerating, initially. He hadn't lied, though. This incident was only the first in a long line of offenses until his sister finally left.

Draconis smirked, suddenly wrapping a tail around the vixen's torso and pulling her closer. "Don't be ridiculous, my dear," he said. "You know very well that your feelings for me, though not reciprocated on my part, are stronger than any force that foxes typically think of as 'love.'
"You believe there to be something between us. Something inexplicable that just draws you to me. It lacks any sort of rhyme or reason, and yet you'd trust it, me, without any trace of doubt." His eyes met hers, the expression on his face still looking rather smug.

"Oh, Draconis, I never knew you to be such a poet," Ginevra drawled in a voice full of sarcasm. "Sadly I can't say your arrogance surprises me any. Not to mention how completely and utterly incorrect you are." She disentangled herself from the 'Phim's tail but remained at about the same, close proximity.
"You've let your imagination run rampant, Draconis," she said. "That is, in thinking that you don't reciprocate any of these supposed feelings that I have for you. In fact, I'd say that you return them tenfold."
