Bikes, skateboards... The pup didn't know what sort of toys those were, and he offered a curious head tilt as he peered through the front window. He had virtually no childhood to speak of, on account of appearing in Halloween at more or less his current age, and only having a brief few months to play with puppy toys before preparing for highschool. So this toy concept was still fairly new.
He stared through the window a little longer before attempting to follow Roch in, but he was stopped short by the scream that pierced his fluffy ears and darted back a few steps. Ouch... The ghost watched with a worried expression as a parent walked in with their scareling, neither showing any reaction. Was that screaming normal?
When the next customer entered, Jove darted in fast on their heels as though he could avoid triggering the scream himself, and hurried to catch up to the reaper.

Roch blinked at the ghost, having wondered what was keeping him. "You okay, dawg?" he asked him, wondering why he felt worried for an upperclassman, and more importantly, a ghost. "Hey, check it out, they got a row of pet toys, too," he said, pointing at the sign hanging over one of the aisles. "Maybe if I get Jackdammit a scratching post he'll stop tryin' to use my face."
Ah yes, the Roch is distracted moment. It happened SO often. "You like dog toys?" he asked Jove curiously as he started down the aisle. "Maybe some chewtoys or a frisbee. A frisbee would be awesome," he went on, grinning as he remembered prom. Well, the one fun moment of prom. "There!" he said, heading towards a rack of frisbees with scary pictures on them.
He picked it up, mimicking throwing it.

An indignant glare was all Roch received in reply. Jove was absolutely fine! Certainly not worried about stupid things.
And it wasn't even a full minute later when he snorted, as though saying "Jack no, I don't care about that kind of dog stuff." However, he glanced down the aisle with enough interest to prove otherwise. When it was clear the reaper was focusing on something else, Jove was only too eager to follow the boil over to look at the frisbees, and even trotted a little ways further down where they had little balls, just the right size for foxfires! Jove's tail started to wag, and he trotted across the aisle to look at rope tug toys.
He might have been a year ahead in his schooling, but Jove was still just a puppy. All the bravado in the world couldn't change that fact. He could try all he wanted to act bigger and tougher, but at that moment he could have been mistaken for any other little kid the way he peered around with wide eyes and tried to see everything all at once.

"I was just askin'," Roch said at the glare, wondering--oh, no, the ghost boil was distracted by toys then. He would have been bothered by all the glaring and growling he was getting, except, well... the boil was wagging his tail and balls and rope toys. This kid, well, Roch couldn't see him focused long enough to plot out how to kill him.
Idly he reached into his pocket, digging out a handful of seeds and counting them. Twenty, he thought with a snort. All the cash he had on him--well, there was a way to pick up some quick seeds if he needed them. Not... y'know, that he was gonna buy a toy for the kid. He didn't like ghosts!
But... he had dragged the little guy along with him. "I got some seeds, y'know, if you see somethin," he told the pup. "As thanks for this. And to bribe you to not tell Danny about this, okay?"

Jove pulled himself away from the fun display for a moment to regard Roch with some confusion. What did seeing things have to do with seeds- Oh. What?! It suddenly clicked that the reaper was offering to buy him something, and Jove's immediate response was to start blushing like a little ghoul and shake his head. No, he couldn't accept that...
The pup hadn't brought his own seeds with him, his caretaker provided him with a generous allowance he used very, very sparingly. He understood the value of money! And didn't want to take favours even if he could easily pay the reaper back when they returned to the school. Besides, there was no need for bribery in the first place. He was so quiet, even if someone had asked he probably wouldn't have said a word. Technically he even had some serious dirt on Riley, had he been inclined to share.
With a shy look, the pup went back to looking at the toys, but not as intensely as he had before. Just to be on the safe side so he didn't give Roch the impression he wanted something.
But maybe... maybe later he could come back and buy some things for his pets.

"Yeah? Alright," Roch said, heading for the small balls and grabbing an orange one. "I should at least get Clef something," he said. "Poor little guy keeps getting picked on. I'm gonna go see about getting that string," he told Jove. "You can keep lookin' if you want, I'll come back."
He turned, heading for the music area towards the front, carrying the cheap guitar and the ball.

Jove trailed along after the reaper, his big, luminous eyes darting left and right as he tried to look at everything they passed. From the way he stuck close he might have even forgot his animosity for the time being. There were just too many other things to catch is attention, and too many ways to get lost in the crowd if he wasn't careful. And for the moment that thought seemed more frightening than a fellow student looking for a cheap guitar string.

The back of his brain was itching horribly, and Roch even reached up to scratch the back of his head as he got to the strings. He picked the one he'd broken and started for the check out, only to be stared at by the checkout ghoul.
"You're the one!" she said abruptly.
"What?" Roch asked.
"You and your ghoulfriend! You're the ones that raced through the--"
"I got no idea what you're talking about," Roch said blandly, putting the string down. "And she ain't my ghoulfriend," he added, blowing the first line out of the water even as he paid for the string.

Jove peered over the counter and watched the exchange, ears swivelling back and forth as Roch chatted with the ghoul behind the counter. It seemed they were familiar with each other. The reaper must have left the campus often to know so many people outside the school, but the pup couldn't imagine ever coming out to the town all on his own. Roch made it look so easy.
He watched more as the purple haired boil exchanged seeds for the items, and his ears perked to hear the boil say something about not having a ghoulfriend. So even some reapers had good sense too! That was a bit of a surprise, and the pup spent the rest of the transaction re-evaluating some of his earlier notions. Maybe... if Roch wasn't so bad, they could be friends even.
With a thoughtful tail wag he started towards the door, trusting the other boil would follow him.

Roch pocketed the stuff he'd just paid for and headed for the door, right behind the ghost boil. "C'mon," he said, speeding up slightly. "Before she tells her boss. I still don't know why they ain't called my old man about that last time," he said, a grin pulling at his lips and amusement in his voice. "Especially that ramp trick Danny pulled at the end."
He laughed as they went into the main part of the maul, again, forgetting that the other boil was a ghost and not just another dog kid.
"Okay, I have the string! Now you can listen to me play--but if it sucks, it's because of the guitar, I swear," he said, looking around. "And we might as well see if we can make some cash while doing it!" He headed for the fountain in the middle of the maul, dropping down on the half wall that surrounded it and starting to string the guitar.

Jove tilted his head in a typical canine expression of confusion. He had no idea what the reaper was talking about, but it sounded like trouble, and perhaps it was not god for him to get too curious.
He followed Roch out to the center of the maul's main hallway, his ears perking as he went. Finally he could hear the reaper play that thing! At first he had wanted it to be done and over with so he could go on his way, but for some reason, now he didn't really mind spending time with the other boil. He was surprisingly honest, and the pup quickly grew on those who's words always matched their body language.
Wait, earning cash? Now he was really curious, and he hopped up onto the wall next to Roch to watch him string the guitar. And he tried to ignore how his feet didn't touch the ground.

Roch finished stringing the guitar, then dug through the big pockets of his pants, pulling out a ragged looking hat and tossing it onto the floor in front of them. "Well, this time I can actually do the jackin' song right," he said, as if this was the only GOOD thing he was going to get out of the stupid knock off imitation of a guitar. He'd memorized the song Just Breathe, so he figured he might as well get some use out of it, he thought as he started playing the mellow song, his voice, for once, fitting the song.

Jove's ears swivelled forward as Roch began to play, and he listened in silence for the first few bars before his tail gave a short wag. This was really music, not the sort of half-hearted notes most students managed in Music Class. He watched Roch's fingers, and wondered how long it took to learn that sort of co-ordination, and then marvelled that he could sing and play at the same time.
Pulling his pale glance away from the boil, Jove scanned the crowd around them. It was less pressing right up near the fountain where they sat, but the longer Roch played, the more the area opened up and gave them space. And instead of the impassive, dour expressions of people going about their business in the most businesslike way possible, there were smiles.
The pup's tail wagged again. This meeting really wasn't as bad as he thought it would be, it was actually pleasant now that he thought about it.

He wasn't that happy with the acoustic, but he could get a somewhat decent tune out of it. "I gotta admit something," he said. "I haven't played anything other than my electric since I was eight years old. So if I can only remember stupid four chord songs and the REALLY traditional stuff, that's why." He tuned it slightly, still not quite happy with the tune, then grinned at the little pup sitting with him. "This one I was taught by a drunken skeleton on a street corner--oh hell, who am I kidding? All of them I was taught by a drunken skeleton on a street corner." He started playing again, this time not singing. But he didn't need to sing for this song.

While he was so engrossed watching the boil's fingers on those strings, and the crowd around them, Jove wouldn't have noticed the difference between a grand orchestra and a simple rendition of "Scary is the Little Lamb". His ears perked towards the guitar, and even when he looked around one ear remained trained in it's direction.
The pup glanced up at Roch, tilting his head ever so slightly. A drunken skeleton? Could they even get drunk?
