He gave her a look. "If you say so." Lucky wasn't exactly the word he would use to describe anyone who met him. Azria didn't have the best luck himself, and trouble had a nasty habit of following wherever he went. Sometimes he thought it would be better for everyone if he just avoided them, perhaps avoid bringing his troubles to them.

"Why wouldn't you?" He echoed, growing angry. What did she mean, why wouldn't she? There was so much she didn't know that would never help or benefit her if she did come to learn them, so much that she ought to just let alone, and yet here she was, asking why she should dig up a past she had no business knowing.

"Because I did plenty I shouldn't have done and most of it damn well wasn't right and I knew full well when I was doing it," he snapped. "Is there honor in that as well? Sometimes we just do bad things, Awen. The world isn't made of honor and righteousness."

He stopped, feeling guilt begin to creep back to him slowly again. It wasn't fair to her. She didn't know and she had done nothing to deserve a telling-off except try to understand something she couldn't possibly understand because he hadn't bothered to explain. And how much could he possibly expect her to comprehend? They had only just met, after all. Azria shook his head. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean that... But... see, that's what I mean. You don't want to know. You don't need to know, and you should keep it that way as long as you can. It's nothing but trouble"

Awendela paused in her steps, her body shrinking under his change in tone. Her tail found it's way between her legs at once, and as if she had been struck her ears flattened against her head. What had she done to cause such a change?

"Well...that..." Her voice was small, timid, and just as weak as she in that moment. Anger wasn't something she'd seen a lot of her world beyond arguments between her siblings. The small lioness took a deep breath to steady herself, and tried to stand a little taller. "B-b-b-bad things happen, Azria, whether or not you chose to do them." As she rose she realized that despite her fear of him, she'd seen too much of him already to shirk from him. A response to that unknown, the snap itself, had stirred in the little Ela, and build like steel in her blood. "You lived in darkness, and for all I know you may still be there. However, as you said, it's your choice. You chose to do those wrong deeds, but that doesn't mean that you can't choose to change." By now she was shaking, but on her paws, standing as close to him as she possibly could, her eyes staring into his. "There is honor in the soul that chooses to acknowledge their choices, regardless of what is believed to be 'wrong' and 'right'. There is honor in the lion that chooses to lead a lioness back to her home when there is no gain in it for himself."

Awendela's posture softened, as did the firm line of her mouth into a softer smile. "You're right. I don't know much about the real world, and there's a lot of it that would probably break me. I'm not as strong as you, Azria, but that doesn't mean that you should have to suffer for it. If you're as bad as you say you are, then you would have killed me and been done with it." She heard the paws of other lions, their voices over the hills, and knew now that they were close.

"Please come with me...You don't have to tell me anything, if you don't want, but I...I..I was taught that when someone's in trouble, we're supposed to help them, and if you're in trouble, I want to help you. "

Azria was unfamiliar with the idea of being in trouble or needing help. In many ways, those were labels that he railed against, ones that suggested a dependence on others or a lack of dependence on himself. But perhaps there was something to what she was saying.

"There's a lot of lions where you live who won't agree," he cautioned. There were a million ways Awen's idea could go wrong, and if her pride was anything like her then Azria didn't doubt for a second that there would be opposition to his being anywhere near them. "They won't want me around."

And that was alright. Azria understood. They had a duty to protect their families and his presence could easily seem a threat. It wasn't necessary that he bother them anyway, and perhaps they would all be better off if he just let them be.

"I'm sure you're right." She didn't try to deny it; her own parents might shun her choices, but if a pride could raise her to see the potential in others, wouldn't that mean that they could see it themselves? Awendela shook her head. "We won't know until we try, and I'll be there with you to speak on your behalf." In truth, she didn't know how far her word would go, but...well, she couldn't just leave him!

"Please, Azria, just give it a chance. Stay with us for a week, and if you don't like it you can leave. I won't fight it, or make you feel guilty; I just...I just don't want to see you out there on your own again."

He studied her and seemed to decide that it couldn't hurt to try, even though he could already imagine her attempt failing. It was like fighting a losing battle, struggling to leave behind those parts of his life he didn't want anymore. But trouble seemed to haunt him and perhaps it wasn't worth bringing his trouble to her pride.

Then again, it was impossible to know and he was tempted, if a skeptical. "Won't be long before I'm there again," he intoned. "But I guess a week... I could spare." He could indulge her optimism for that long, at the very least. After all, how much could someone change in a week?

Still, anything was worth a shot.

Fin? Or would you like to add another post? c:

"Stop doubting yourself before you even try." Awen tried to smile cheerily, but even she had her worries. There was just as much possibility that he would despise her home, and be shunned for his gruffness as there was a chance of being accepted. With her clansmen now visible over the landscape she knew that the nearness wouldn't give him any opportunity to get away without being seen, so regardless of any last minutes reservations, Awendela pushed forward.

"A week is all that I ask for. If anything, you'll get a fresh meal and some company to share it with." If he was into that sort of that, that is. Awen was already planning on staying close to him during the week as a sort of go to person, but mostly so she could fix as many problems as she could that might arise.

After all, what could a week hurt?

"If they don't chase me out before the end of it, you mean,"Azria said with a shrug. It would be the first time something like that had happened, and it certainly wouldn't be the last. But the years had given him something of a thick skin, and he didn't mind the rejection so much. Mostly, he figured, those lions were just being smart.

Still, Awen was right. A week couldn't hurt.
