"My strings never break," Roch said. "I can tune without a tuner, and I don't need an amp. It's all FEAR," he finished. He closed his eyes. "I'm going to teach Amrita, and her hands are backwards, I could probably teach you." But something said that his mind and his mouth weren't exactly on the same subject.
His guitar started humming, and his fingers stilled, just holding the guitar, letting it be a focus. But--
"Jackdammit," he muttered, opening his eyes. "What is WRONG with me today?" he asked. Then he stopped, looking at the pets that surrounded them.
"I uh... think we should do this somewhere else," he said quietly.

Ren gave a mild snort. "Wish my strings were unbreakable," he said with a laugh, shaking his head. "But I'm afraid my FEAR has nothing to do with a guitar, though one might say it has some basis in song, since it has to do with my voice."
His brows lifted, head tilted slightly to one side. "Teach me?" Ren repeated thoughtfully. "I never considered that before..."
He trailed off, lost in thought for a brief moment before his eyes flickered back to the boil and the matter at hand. Roch was clearly uncomfortable, and Ren pushed himself to his feet, reaching for the shrubbery-plant-thing.
"All right," he said briskly. "Where would you like to go, then? We can go anywhere you want."

"Somewhere where... my pets aren't," he said, standing and letting his guitar disappear. "I don't want them to be terrified of me. I mean, sure Jackdammit might be a bit handy, but, well, I think we're doin' okay without me intimidating him with FEAR and stuff."
His eyes fell on the little will o the wisp still proclaiming her queendom to anyone that cared to listen from atop of the red pillow. "And I definitely don't wanna traumatize my little Riff," he said with a grin as he headed out the door. "Outside, maybe the misty field or something? Wait, lemme get the six pack of pop!" he added quickly, heading back into his room to grab it. He'd only recently started putting things in the tiny half kitchen in the back. Used to be it wouldn't last long enough to get there.

Ren glanced at the little wisp with a curious smile before following Roch from the room.
"The field works for me," he said cheerfully, linking his fingers together behind his head. His tail flicked out, curling around one of his legs briefly, then unwound itself and trailed behind him.
It only took them a few moments to reach their destination. Ren's booted feet made squelching noises in the dew dampened grass, and he flapped his wings, hovering barely an inch or two above the ground before turning to face Roch again.
"Okay," he said with a grin, spreading his arms wide. "Here we are, away from your pets, alone and ready to go, right? I'm sure this'll do just fine out here."

Roch summoned his guitar, taking his playing pose and frowning with concentration. For a moment it looked as if he would start playing again, but all he did was close his eyes for a second, take a deep, deep breath, and exhale.
"Okay," he said. "I can do this. I can absolutely do this." Then he stopped.
"I can't do this. Jackdammit, why can't I do this?? It's like... so jackin' retarded! All it is is summoning my FEAR! I'm a reaper! I'm good at this! But obviously I'm not," he drawled.

"Okay," said Ren, starting to pace back and forth, his tail switching behind him like a snake in the grass. His wings fluttered briefly, then settled neatly against his back. "Okay, let's think about this. You're a reaper - that's pretty badass, in my opinion. You play the guitar, and you're Jacking talented at it too. You're confident - at least from what I've seen - and you're intelligent. There must be something else that's keeping you from doing this,"
He twiddled his thumbs together absently, then linked his hands behind his back, still pacing. "Just...keep your mind focused. Don't think about me, don't think about the fact that you 'have' to do this. Do it because you want to and because you can, not because you're required to."

He nodded. "I only know one adult reaper, though," Roch admitted. "Unless you count that super scary b*****d at the gambling hall." He stopped, a little reluctant grin pulling at his lips. "That guy... in a room full of demons and monsters, and some of the scariest sons of bitches you EVER met, he was the one that scared me the most. And he looked so... y'know... reaper like. In this big and lined sort of way," he said.
He could be like that someday. Maybe not the whole a*****e thing, but awesome even surrounded by scary guys!
His grin pulled more at his lips, revealing a bit of teeth. The FEAR rose, faster than it had before. And it was right, he thought. "YEAH!" he said. "That's what I wanted!"

"I'm sure you'll be just as badass as those reapers," said Ren, his eyes glinting with amusement.
The amusement, however, turned into surprise and then pleasure, and he let out a whoop of happiness, jumping up and down.
"Awww, yeah, see," said Ren triumphantly, holding out his hand to slap Roch a high five. "I knew you could do it, man, nicely done."
Ren rocked back on his heels, surveying the boil in front of him with an appraising sort of look, then smiled widely.
"Pretty badass, I'd say," he said, and grinned.

Roch grinned proudly. "You mind if we stop here, though? Cuz seriously, I don't think my ego could handle another failure right now." He'd done it. The perfect level for a good chord. That was awesome. Just... he needed to start doing it regularly now.
Oh well, maybe in private. He was tired of making an a** out of himself, too. "I think I got promise, but I ain't badass yet," he said honestly. "Gimme a bit of time."

"Nah, that's fine by me," Ren said with a grin. "Besides, you've worked hard. You deserve a break."
"And maybe some of that pop," he added, glancing at the soda with an amused raise of his eyebrow. Clapping a hand on Roch's shoulder, Ren gave him a thumbs up, then stepped back.
"And, now that we've successfully managed to bring out your FEAR, I do believe it's time for a little dinner."
