"I never said it was either," Nakura replied stubbornly, though he had certainly been thinking it. "What does it matter what we're doing here? A discussion is a discussion, no matter where it takes place, between whom, or at what time. Yes, it matters what the topic is, but how far we choose to pursue it is only determined by the will of the conversationalists."

It seemed Claire was more interested in her paperwork than holding an intelligent conversation with him, though, so if that was how she wanted to act, then so be it. He wasn't going to force her to try to win against him in an argument. If she didn't want to try, she only had herself to blame.

"I'm not deaf, you know," he sighed, rubbing his temples as she repeated her statement four times. Was she just trying to copy him, or what? The least she could do was be original in her sarcastic statements. Whatever; he didn't know why he needed to get so worked up over some hard-headed young woman. Why had he even bothered trying to talk to her in the first place? They seemed no better off than before he had entered the room.

Zeus was growling at him. Well, since he was already out, might as well... "Ah, Zeus-san! I've been meaning to thank you for your heroic act of bravery at the outpost a while ago," he told the electric-type with a smooth smile. "Let me know if I can ever return the favor."

Noticing that one of the washers was finished with its load, Izaya went over to move the clothes to a dryer before starting up the washer for his own load. He kept an eye on the Pikachu in the case it decided to do something troublesome before seperating his lighter clothing from his dark and put the light load in first. "How many loads of clothes do you wash on average, agent?" Orihara inquired as he worked.

"I know," she said simply, turning to the back of one sheet. Apparently her will to continue that line of conversation - or perhaps just due to a lack of interest - had diminished. She didn't comment on it further. If he wanted to keep talking, she'd pretend to listen until her laundry finished. It really didn't make any difference to her at all.

If Izaya was expecting any sort of reaction from the Pikachu, he'd be waiting quite a while. The electric-type merely sat and watched, but when he was addressed, his green eyes narrowed. "Chu." His tone wasn't amused, but he stopped growling - it was annoying to keep it up too long, to be honest - and instead his cheeks sparked to convey the fact he still didn't like this guy. He was just too lazy to do anything about it or give the grunt a consistent, continuous reminder. Not like Odette - the bird probably would glare and tower over him the entire time. Zeus, on the other hand paw, was much too lazy.

How many loads of laundry did she wash usually? Odd question, but considering the room they were in, she supposed it wasn't. Still, any question regarding her laundry was treated with a mild suspicion. "Not too many at once," she answered. "I normally wash one or two as I need them." She'd never quite understood waiting until it all piled up until there was nothing left to wear, and then doing every load all at once. It was such a waste of time, and she had no interest in being in the laundry room all day long.

The grunt, not even have expected Zeus to understand him much less respond, ignored the pikachu as it stopped growling. It didn't seem to pose any immediate threat to him.

"One or two what?" He asked Claire as he dropped his articles of clothing in, glancing up as he did so. "Bras? Panties? Uniform pieces? I can't imagine you have all that much to wear. You must do your laundry pretty frequently."

Contrary to Claire, Izaya was of the opinion that washing all his clothes at once saved a lot more time than washing many small batches frequently. He preferred to spend a couple of hours a week in the laundry room than thirty minutes every day.

As he was thinking about this and how a woman's clothing might affect the amount of times she washed them relative to a man's, Grunt Nakura dropped a white garment with pink accents behind Claire's chair. Absently reaching down to pick it up, the man peered at the matching pokemon that had somehow crammed itself between Claire's chair and the wall. Raising a brow, he chucked and shook his head before retrieving the garment and tossing it into the wash.

"It's amazing you let them all run rampant," he told the agent, referring, of course, to her pokemon. "I wouldn't trust mine even with leashes."

Since Izaya was ignoring him, Zeus decided it only fair to ignore the grunt, although the man's annoying voice was starting to get on his nerves. Clearly he needed to brush up on ignoring people - he hadn't been doing it enough lately.

"One or two loads of laundry," she told him sharply, leveling him with a look that clearly said how much she was not about to discuss her underthings with him. "Of whatever I need washed. And I do have plenty to wear, thank you." Just because most of it was similar in style didn't mean she didn't have much to wear.

Violet eyes followed the inquisitive grunt as he dropped and retrieved a garment - mostly because of the close proximity - then Claire shrugged when he spoke. Luc quivered as he peered up at the man from the safety of under Claire's elbow. "I have at least half a dozen pokemon. I only let them out to wander in certain circumstances," like in the pool or for training, or just to relax in her bedroom, "and only if I know I can trust them to behave. Most of them behave well, so I see no reason not to let them out. Yours, however," she continued with a pointed look, "sound like they could use more training." Her opinion of his training skills - actually, of some of his skills most of his skills him - hadn't changed too much since she'd seen him last, when he didn't know what to do with his own pokemon. A ghost type, if she recalled, though she couldn't remember the exact species.

Grinning in response to the look Claire gave him, Izaya decided he liked her better angry than indifferent towards him. He supposed that make him something of an attention hog, but he didn't mind much. Pushing a person's buttons to see which did what was far less boring than standing around waiting for laundry to finish. He wondered if his mention of her undergarments made her convinced he was a pervert. It certainly would have been fun to give her that notion and see where she took it, despite it being untrue.

"Mmmhmm, of course. I'm sure you have an agent uniform for every day of the week," he teased, his thoughts drifting to the same topic as hers - the lack of variety in her wardrobe. "Underwear is much more interesting. You can tell a lot more about a person with those."

Shutting the door of the washing machine, he set the timer and allowed the appliance to do its work. "That's not it at all," he answered airily. "If we're on a mission or in training, they're fine. Around any other Rocket, they're sweet as angels. The moment they have a chance to get me in trouble for one reason or another, though..." His gaze narrowed as he stared at a spot on the wall. "Those twins have it in for me, I swear it. Same as their ex-owners did. I know I'm not that used to using the creatures yet, but these ones deliberately go out of their way to make me look bad when they know they can. It's ridiculous."

His gaze softened. "Celty's a little better...even if she's still much of a mystery to me. Nothing like I read about how other Spiritomb are. Though I suppose that's why her previous owner was so fascinated with her..." Izaya drummed his fingers on the metal of the washer, glancing Zeus' way to stick out his tongue at the electric mouse. "This one doesn't seem very well-behaved to me. Shouldn't your load be done by now?"

Claire simply rolled purple eyes at his continued comments on her clothing. A uniform for every day of the week? Please. More like one and a half. "I'm sure you can," she commented about being able to tell a lot about someone based on their underwear. Not that she was about to reveal anything about hers, of course.

Even if she didn't like him, she still listened with interest to the subject of his pokemon. He seemed very forthcoming with that information, she noted, although a lot of people were. "It still sounds like they need more training, so they stop attempting to get you into trouble. Even if they are well-behaved the rest of the time," she added pointedly. Celty - that was the ghost he'd had before. A Spiritomb, if she could remember right.

She opened her mouth to reply, but a buzzer cut her off. Perfect timing - but then again he probably saw the timer. She hadn't. With a small shrug she stood, placing the clipboard face-down on the chair next to Luc, then started shoving her sopping wet clothes - uniforms, all of them - into an empty dryer. "Actually, compared to when I caught him, he's very well-behaved," she commented as Zeus directed a growl at Izaya's protruding tongue. "He's just temperamental and doesn't like a lot of people." Luckily she was one of the people he liked - even if he pretended she wasn't.

Of course she would start picking up interest when he brought up the subject of his failure. Pokemon were not his strong suit, and he knew this. Most other Rockets who knew him were aware of this as well. It was all fine and dandy for Claire to lecture him about his little monsters, but he doubted she understood the full situation. The twin purrloin had been trained by his own twin sisters, after all. The same sisters who would push him in front of a bus to meet their favorite celebrity.

"Easier said than done," the grunt scoffed, folding his arms again. "What am I supposed to do - spank them? Starve them? Discipline them? They'd just use that against me and make it look as if I were abusing them." He wondered how agents like Claire disciplined their own pokemon, but he was betting their creatures didn't share the same animosity towards their owners that the twins did.

"Celty usually has to babysit them most of the time, since I can't stand to be around them. Mairu and Kururi, that is. I think you have yet to meet them, though I hope you never do. For both our sakes." Claire would probably deem them angels too.

And there was the buzzer. He smiled dryly, glancing at her clipboard as she set it down. Just what had she been working on, anyway? "That so? I'd hate to know what he was like then. What did you do to tame him?"
PostPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2011 9:39 pm

"Discipline, yes," she replied as she shut the door of the dryer and turned it on, returning to her chair and picking up the clipboard. Unfortunately for Izaya, he wouldn't be able to catch any of its contents. "And for pity's sake, you're in Team Rocket, no one will care how you treat your pokemon." Well, some might, but the majority didn't.

Briefly her eyes flitted to the Pikachu, then back to her papers as she crossed one leg over the other. "For him? Discipline. Found his favorite reward and offered it for good behavior. If he misbehaved I tied him to a treadmill." At the reminder of those, Zeus grumbled and crossed the line of washers to hop onto the dryer Claire had shoved her clothes into. Sitting on it felt really weird, but whatever. As long as he could make sure that weird male didn't get near it, it didn't matter. Plus it was warm, which was nice.

"You say that, but I've already been yelled at for 'abusing them'," Nakura retorted irritably. Granted, it was more of a personal opinion of soft-hearted Rockets like Xander who loved their pokemon and less of an enforced rule, but it still made it difficult for him to treat his Purrloin how he thought they deserved to be treated.

Other people babied them and he kicked them, causing fellow members to question his actions. Little did they know that the devious felines deserved it. "Doesn't help that a lot of people seem to have more of a bias towards Purrloin and a bad impression of me." He glanced pointedly at the agent.

"That's not discipline, that's bribery," the grunt argued, looking exasperated. "I've tried that too. Trouble is, the only thing my Purrloin want is something that's particularly difficult for me to give them." Time with a certain other pokemon who belonged to a man he didn't much care for. He was above using positive reinforcement on the dark types.

"Oh...a treadmill?" There was an idea. He smirked at the Pikachu's reaction. So, Zeus could understand what they were saying, or at least recognize the word of his punishment. Interesting. Maybe he could condition his girls the same way. "Maybe I'll try that sometime...thanks for the tip." Of course, he'd have to do it in turns, since the sisters would more than likely just help each other escape. That was another thing he liked to do too - keep them apart from each other. That tended to backfire, though, since they would act almost useless without the other.

When he directed a pointed look at her, she matched with her own pointed stare, complete with vaguely raised eyebrows. "If anyone has a bad impression of you, you only have yourself to thank for that. It explains a lot though," she added after a moment, leaning back in the chair and crossing her legs as she continued with her paperwork. "Bribery works too," she said with a shrug.

Zeus didn't like being smirked at, and he made that opinion known by partially baring his little fangs and loosing a low growl at Izaya, narrowed green eyes staring right at him. Yes, he had to use a treadmill - quite a few times when he misbehaved often - but his reaction now wasn't to that at all.

Claire ignored the growling. "I used a treadmill because he's always been so chubby - I thought he was just fat. ..actually I think he still is, but so far nothing's managed to slim him down. But he's not getting worse, so I don't worry about it much anymore." Plus he was still quick enough to maneuver around effectively, which was the most important thing. "That was just him, though, I'm not sure how well a treadmill would for your specific situation." Not that she was going to put forth any effort to help him with it.

"It's not always my fault," the grunt protested. "Sometimes I do things for reasons that people don't initially understand. That causes them to assume I do them just to cause trouble, which really isn't true at all. Trouble just happens to be a common consequence of my actions. What do you mean, 'it explains a lot'?" he added indignantly, pouting again.

Rather than sticking his tongue out at the pikachu this time, Izaya turned to him with a nasty grin. "On second thought, maybe I should just leave my twins with you. I bet you'd make a wonderful babysitter."

All the while Claire explained why she had put Zeus on the treadmill, Orihara chuckled quietly. He hadn't expected the agent to actually call her pikachu fat; particularly not while he was present. "Maybe it's muscle. To use strength," Izaya suggested, still giggling. "Good point, though. Suppose I'll have to find something else."
PostPosted: Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:57 pm

"As long as you made the conscious decision to follow on a course of action, the end result is your fault, whatever your reasons were," she said with a small sigh. Seriously - good yet misunderstood intentions did not alleviate any responsibility he had for his own actions, though she doubted his intentions were ever 'good' except in regards to himself.

She neglected to comment on his question.

At the grin Izaya aimed at him, Zeus's fur bristled and he growled, his ears slicked back against his head and his teeth bared. He was not some babysitter. Artemis was with Blue, but he couldn't be bothered unless there was something in it for him. Plus he really just didn't like this guy's face.

"Could be," she replied with a quiet, slight snort at the idea. Her thoughts inevitably wandered to Zeus using the attack on the skinny informant, and as much as she liked the idea, she dismissed it. Maybe if he was being especially obnoxious one day or something.

"If I'm not always aware of the gravity of my actions, how can I always be held accountable?" the grunt asked, feigning ignorance. Of course, he liked to believe he was one of the least ignorant people around, and thus he knew Clair was right. Such excuses would probably never apply to him. Still, he wanted to know what she thought of it. Good intentions were one thing, but what about pure naivety?

When she decided to ignore another of his questions, the corner of his mouth twitched irritably, but he said nothing. How convenient for her to ignore him when she felt like it. Not to mention childish and rude. What as it with higher-ups and being childish? Was that how they tended to achieve their status? But throwing tantrums until they got their way? It certainly seemed like that.

Pleased, at least, that Zeus had responded with the appropriate reaction that Izaya had both been hoping for and expecting, he glanced at his clothes in the washer. The stupid pikachu's show of strength way back then had pissed him off. If anything, it had reminded him of Shizuo. That in itself was infuriating.

"Well, seeing as you've been here longer than I have and your load still isn't done," the grunt spoke up, "I doubt mine will be any quicker in getting clean. If you'll excuse me, I've got some things in my room to finish," he explained, headed toward the door. "Have fun with your...paperwork."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 27, 2011 1:57 pm

"That might work if you were five," she commented with a quirk of her brow. Arceus, he'd just keep talking forever, wouldn't he? She exhaled slowly, too busy poring over her papers to see the twitch. Even if she had, she wouldn't have done anything differently.

The agent didn't bother to look at him until he spoke up again, signaling his intention to leave. Inwardly she was relieved - very much so, actually - though her only response was that one eyebrow raised. She did have a lot of uniforms to wash and it didn't take five minutes, after all. What was he expecting? "Alright," she said with a small shrug before her purple eyes flicked back to the papers in her lap again. "Have fun with your... whatever those 'things' are." And good riddance. Hopefully her laundry would be done before he came back for his so she wouldn't need to see him again..
