Where Tanzanite had risen from the glory of ashes and fire, as terrible and wonderful as the Phoenix that now possessed her what came now was from smoke, it shed it’s skin, casting off what it had outgrown. It sloughed off the monstrous accouterments as it reclaimed, piece-by-piece what it had lost. Perhaps fitting that he had briefly taken on some vaguely draconic form. He hoarded the information that tumbled back to him as she gave him a lifeline in the drowning dark. He gathered it to him and coiled about it in the depths of a returning more human mind like a great wyrm on its golden treasures.
Who else could have said that becoming General King was a relief, that it was very nearly soothing after the agony of a shattered star seed, pressed together again and reformed in a way he would never have thought possible. He nearly staggered as the power that erupted free of him finally gave up the last of it’s hold. Memories tumbled and staggered disordered, a marvelous and precious chaos. The oldest first and then re-ordering themselves as though he staggered through a life time in those brief precious seconds, clutching at the Exhausted General Queen for support until she herself dropped to her knees.
When he looked at her, he understood, or at least had started to understand what it was to be her. Far more than he had ever realized of the woman he had known had been lost. He had tasted that loss, and she must live with it.
As soon as he found the words, as soon as he remembered how to form them he touched a hand to her shoulder. Light but in a sort of deep, sad, awe.
“Thank you…” But the words weren’t nearly enough to convey the depth of the debt he owed her. She had saved far more than his life; she had saved his ability to define himself, his humanity and left him with something more. Together the General Queens had found, and saved an unshakable ally.

It was done. A crackling burst of lightning escaped Beryl's fingertips and hit Laurelite at point-blank range, but it was far too late to make a difference. Weakened as they all were... it would still be three General-Kings up against Beryl, now. Further retaliation would lead them nowhere. Knowing this, the smaller General-Queen let her kites rattle to the floor like saucers, a burn-scarred arm pushing her disarrayed form up off the reflective floor.
"Traitors, Your Majesty?" she repeated -- the word long since said, but still lingering in the air even at this moment. "Saying such a thing only shows what a relic you've become..."
There was the scraping of fabric and skin against stone as she slowly but surely got up, drained and worse for wear but alive. It was just one bolt of lightning. Formidable, indeed, leaving sooty burns on her skin and tearing one shoulder of her uniform to tatters, the arm rendered useless for the moment, but nothing to complain about given the circumstances.
"Because we would never betray the Negaverse, Queen..."
Their mission had been a success, after all.
Her steps began in earnest once again, the walls around them amplifying the metronomic sound of each and every footfall -- the tempo of a heart reanimated, and charged with new purpose, filled the throne room. "General-King Zinkenite," offered Laurelite, as she looked down at him with a nigh-undetectable smirk. "The way you're lazing about on the ground now is hardly befitting of your station..."
She offered him her good hand.
"I daresay it would be in your best interest to make yourself more presentable."
