Shehk looked at the dice idly, one brow raising ever so slightly. "That's..an option." she mulled, tilting her head from one side to the other, then back again. It was sort of like if one had been sifting a bag of flour, the way she tilted her head ever so slightly when she thought. After a moment, she pried her hand off of his arm and scratched at the staples in her face, right at the seam beneath her ear.

"But..I imagine it wouldn't hurt to try it."

There was a certain amount of personal risk that came with gambling for physical goods, rather than monetary ones. That was for sure - but wasn't that why she had enjoyed the woods so much? The trees, the fog..all of it. That idea that out in the fog, there was something that could kill her.

Was this similar? Maybe. It gave her that moment of hesitation in her mind like when she regarded outside. That in and of itself was a rush. "Would have to find the proper playmate to it though..or switch it up to a game of cards."

...
....

Did Shehk even know how to play cards? Probably not. She'd learn.

The slowness of her reply, and the ever subtle tilting of her head made Mot even more nervous. She did think he was lame, didn't she? It was like child's play comparing real gambling to games like this. He knew that. He was grasping at straws. He'd only quit because he had to. Aside from occasional card games, he didn't touch the habit anymore.

"Right.. cards work too." Mot nodded, shuffling the dice in his hand some more, clicking them about.

A thought struck him. "Why the need for thrills, anyway?" He asked cautiously. "I mean, they're nice once in a while but, isn't the normal everyday stuff nice too?"

"I don't sleep. At least, not 98% of the time. I simply lay in bed for eight hours and stare at the ceiling at night. The other 2% of the time, it's a silent..dead - for lack of better word - sleep. It is cold, it is lonely, and it is boring. If you had all the time in the world and did nothing with it, wouldn't you want something more?"

Shehk scratched the back of her head a bit. "I've hesitated a lot in life. I..hesitate over a lot of things. And it's cost me things I loved...people...I loved have walked away from me. If you hesitate, you lose things, you lose people, or you die. I... don't want that life for myself." She mulled again, "that unlife for myself. If I sacrifice my safety, I gain freedom." It was a slightly flawed idea, but that was the vague ideas of it; She wanted to be something a bit more liberated than she was.

"Normal everyday stuff is fun...if you're doing something normal every day. And I'm not.

I...lack some consistancy." she admitted, laughing a bit. "Perhaps I am trying too hard."

Mot waited, listening patiently to all that Shehk had to say with interest. He had insomnia, but at least he was actually able to get some sleep at night even if was only a little bit. He wouldn't know what to do with himself otherwise. Most everything she spoke of, he tried and searched for ways to relate. But there was nothing. Her problems seemed so alien to him. She was otherworldly in a sense. It was somewhat fascinating, in a way a sad story in a book would be.

Rather than most ghouls who he viewed as delicate glass flowers that are to be handled with care, this one seemed tougher. Not so much that nothing could harm her, not at all. It felt as if she was something stronger than ancient crystal, yet as fragile as wings made of paper. Deep inside she was hurt with layers of history building her up, yet she longed to fly.

Mot rubbed his neck, pocketing the dice he had been fidgeting with. It felt beyond him to solve. He still wanted to help, but what could a stranger do? Ghouls were a difficult sort to fathom. "Um, well.." Mot mumbled, thinking of a way to simplify all he had heard, sorting it in his mind. "Taking risks to make up for emotional hesitation.. I don't mean to sound patronizing, but I feel like it's not a healthy way to handle it." Surely there were better ways. "That sort of thing is empty gratification, right?"

"I take risks so that I will learn to not hesitate." Shehk answered, but paused, pressing her knuckles to her lips thoughtfully. Thinking over what Mot had said about her course of action. That was actually an interesting way to think about it..and frankly, the only sort of perspective she'd ever had on her activities since she'd come back to school.

She was the only one maintaining herself at this point.

"I guess...I just don't know what I can do otherwise." she admitted after a long silence of thought. "I just... I dunno..... I'm at an impasse." She shrugged lightly. Maybe she'd tried to push herself in the wrong direction. Maybe she just needed to work on making some new friends and doing some more things with her unlife.

...
....

Where did she balance a functioning member of society with a wild animal, though?

Mot smiled encouragingly, giving Shehk a light hit to the arm. "It's okay to feel lost, right? Hell, I feel lost all the time." That was what being a so called teen was about. Though did the same go for undeads? Well, whatever.

Mot slipped his hands into his pockets and rocked on his heels. "Don't ghouls like to keep diaries or journals? I heard that helps some folks sort out their feelings." He mused aloud. Still, she seemed to want something physical to do as well. Well, he was not much of a physical sort, so his expertise was limited.

Shehk stretched out until her back popped. "A diary? I just write letters. I dunno. I can't imagine keeping something so.. personal around. Like.." Shehk waffled about for a moment. "I dunno... it would either get read by somebody else, lost, or destroyed." She did keep an assortment of canid pets with no concept of possession-of-the-alpha. Even if they did know 'Alpha comes in and is angry' after the fact.

Easier to react after than to think ahead!

"Besides, easier to drop a squirrel on a guy's doorstep then write out a novel on why you like him - I know. I've done it.." She again mulled her head a bit. "Kinda. More of a reaction journal that the parental made me do." She shrugged. "Dunno. Having emotions is complicated. Should figure it out eventually." She stretched again before bumping her shoulder against Mot's, looking up at him with a sort of doe-eyed expression.

"However, you are a dear for caring so much. Thank you."

Dead squirrels? Interesting. Not Mot's idea of a gift, but it seemed a lot more unique than the typical bouquet of dead roses. Perhaps it did turn heads, though not always with the desired outcome. Was that what happened with her? "Did it not work so well?" He asked hesitantly, not wishing to step into a subject that may have been taboo. He felt it might be free game since she was the one who mentioned it. May as well try.

Mot did have to agree with her as far as emotions went. Sometimes it felt like life would be best without them, but those were rare times. Even when it hurt, the good days made up for it as far as he was concerned. Ups and downs made life interesting.

Mot smiled, looking childishly elated at the word of thanks. "Any time. Happy to help, even a little." Talking helped, or it did for him when he allowed himself to do so.

"I don't know yet. See, it's...this is going to sound stupid, but I'm pretty much trying what he did when he did it to me. He brought me squirrels nearly every day for a long time. So I'm taking the time to do it to him. It's.. a slow process. But we'll see. If nothing else, it keeps my hunting skills sharper." She didn't seem to mind sharing her battle plan at all. After all, Nuk was as wild of a beast as she was - a man of a beast too. Mmmm, so much beastly goodness. Her tail may have just wagged just a bit.

"However, not everybody would have walked all the way out here just to help out a near-stranger. That's an extra special effort." she added, using her index finger and thumb only while she did this little..small circle thing with her hand (OMG, how do I explain this gesture. <__> HOW DOES I DESCRIBE s**t?) for extra emphasis as she spoke.

"Not everybody is that good of an individual."

Was Shehk trying woo back someone she loved? This too was territory Mot knew next to nothing about. However, he supported it none the less. "Well, that seems nice. Keep at it!" Mot nodded confidently, giving the ghoul a thumbs up. Surely this made the boil she loved feel special, right? He supposed if he were in a similar situation, gifts would be nice? Maybe. Again, he knew next to nothing on the subject. The only time he ever got a love note was in middle school, and he dealt with it by ignoring it completely.

Maybe that was worse..?

Mot chuckled, rubbing his neck a bit more, smiling bashfully once again. "Aw shucks. You're making me blush, little lady." He chuckled. "I guess that makes me one of a kind. Honestly though, I just can't ignore a ghoul in need." Another boil he might be able to ignore though. Maybe.

"Thanks. We'll see what comes of it." she smiled. Her logic was frankly in the section of 'if it worked for the skinwalker, it should work on the skinwalker' somehow. Somehow that was a legitimate result, right? Oh man, she hoped so. Though it was becoming.... less of a 'I MUST HAVE THIS' and more of an 'I WANT THIS SO BAD' thing. She wouldn't die without her success... but she wasn't going to half a** her attempts at it man.

The Pricolici laughed a bit.

"Ah, I could flatter you up and down and every which direction I wanted to. Truly I could. I do have a bit of a way with words, prieten de-al meu. Little things can mean a lot more than the big things." she beamed, not even questioning the fact that Mot was truly just trying to be the 'hero' of the scenario. DAMSEL IN DISTRESS.

Hard to say no to, indeed.

Shehk paused after a moment. "Now, shall we talk a walk somewhere far away from here perhaps? Get some fresh air, keep talking a bit? You're quite the conversational partner."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 11, 2011 10:47 am

Mot smirked proudly with a nod of his head, offering his arm once again. "I try." To be conversational, that is.
The further they got from the place of bells and flashing lights the better. Mot was more than happy to walk and talk with the upperclassmen some more. It was not much of a sacrifice. Here he was, getting to talk to a pretty ghoul; it seemed like he got to do such things a lot since coming to Amnity. Delightful.

"So, squirrels. Is that some sort of inside joke between the two of you?" Mot asked curiously. The reaper had little knowledge of its significance.

Shehk was more than happy to wrap her arm back around the reaper's. At the very least, it'd let Mot say he had a lovely ghoul on his arm that day - not a bad feat in and of itself, Shehk would have to assume. She'd never had a lovely ghoul on her arm - in fact, she'd never seen the appeal of it. Perhaps it was one of those 'confusion between genders' things.

Her ears perked momentarily, before drooping back into their more neutral position, followed by a laugh. "An inside joke? Squirrels are food, silly." she teased. "Though I guess there is some slight significance. In a nutshell, if a squirrel were to skitter by right now, my instinct is to chase it down and eat it. I can't help it. So happened, when I met..uhh...." she scratched the staples in her face again awkward, "Nukpana...... well, I kinda went running after one.

Mid conversation. So I guess that's the 'joke' behind it." she shrugged a bit. "Squirrels, rabbits...deer..they're all food. It's more like a practical gift than a reference one in my mind though."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 11, 2011 1:09 pm

Squirrels as food. Mot didn't much care to eat, and even when he did, squirrel meat usually wasn't on the menu. Perhaps he was just picky.

Oh, but here was a twist! "Oh! It's Nuk?" Mot knew Nuk from Fitness club! He'd seen him at events as well. The idea of this ghoul flying after a squirrel mid sentence was adorable, and Mot couldn't help the grin it brought to his face.
Nuk and Shehk, huh? An interesting pair. From what he saw of Nuk he was an... interesting fellow. Shehk looked ladylike but she had her own quirks from what he could tell.

"He's quite the character. Known him a long time?"

Shehk's ears drooped ever so subtly.

"We were a thing until a few months ago." she answered soberly. "It..was a really bad break up and..well..it wasn't what I wanted. Funny what happens when you don't say what you're thinking." she smiled a bit. "We met pretty early on in our first year of school. It wasn't an..ideal thing.

In fact, at first I hated him. But like you said, he's..quite the character. He got to me." she scratched her staples again. "He got to me somethin' fierce. And as stupid as it all is, I say this to you, I said it to Riley, I've said it to a lot of people.

But I hesitated and..... well....

I never actually said it to him."
