Raven choked, hands reaching up to try and loosen the tongue around her neck.

She struggled, then slowly blinked, her mind returning to thoughts, thoughts of Jett. Memories of the two at school, laughing and enjoying their time together, laughing...and just having a good time.

Slowly her grip relaxed and her arms fell to her side, a smile forming on her face and her eyes closing as her mind kept her in a vision of the kiss. Her first kiss with Jett, that wonderful moment.

Raven let out a little giggle, then allowed herself to fall prey to the vision, body going limp as she slipped into unconsciousness.

The taste on Jett’s tongue was almost enough to make him vomit; the sticky substance plastered across his face confused him. He hadn’t had time to jerk away or try to block from it, and by the time he realized what it was, the effects from the elixir were washing over him. One minute he was staring at Raven as she was attacked, but the next minute, he blinked and all he could think about was middle school, and a pretty little blonde girl he’d fancied since the first grade.

Middle school, where the early birds were starting to mature, and boys and girls no longer had cooties. Middle school, when he’d shared his first kiss with Bethany Dayton.

They hadn’t been publicly official, but that didn’t really matter. Sure, it was good for public face, but they were both relatively private sort of people when it came to romance. His heart felt like it could burst the day he’d sheepishly handed her a card with the phrase, ‘Will you go out with me?’ on it; he had practiced saying it again and again but couldn’t get his voice not to crack. It didn’t matter; she’d have said yes even if he’d looked foolish. They hadn’t known what to do after she agreed; they stared at each other for a moment and then ran down the hallway in different directions.

It had worked out.

They shared their first kiss on their three month anniversary, and Jett remembered it fondly. They were too young to go out and do anything exciting, so they had just gone to the park. They kissed on the swings. She had been wearing cherry flavored lip gloss that had smeared onto Jett’s lips. He’d had to awkwardly explain it to his mother when he got home, but she’d probably already known. He couldn’t really breathe much at this point, but he blamed it on the breath taking experience of the memory.

They dated over the summer. And into the first year of high school—and the second. She’d gone to a different school than he did, but they kept in touch and still went out all the time. Jett’s heart was pounding again; his brows knit as he stared blankly at the salamander. He wasn’t seeing it, but her. Her, standing in front of him, wearing some necklace that he hadn’t given her, holding flowers from someone he’d never met. Kissing some boy he’d never seen.

He had never loved and hated her so much as he had in that minute. He loved her for everything that was perfect about her—he loved her more when he realized that she didn’t love him in the same way. He hated her for doing it, but he loved her even more in that second that he’d turned the corner and seen them standing there, kissing so passionately.

Bethany never broke up with him.

Jett had walked away. He’d ignored her calls, ignored her messages, ignored her when she was at the door. When she stopped trying, he assumed she’d given up, but his mind was locked on that single moment. Her kissing that boy. He never found out his name, but he loathed him. Reflecting back on the past, Jett wished he’d attacked him. He wished he’d walked over to the two and beat that boy senseless just to prove how much he was willing to do to keep Bethany.

He hadn’t then, but Jett was a different person now. It might have been a memory flickering through his head, but all the years of resentment and ‘I should have done it’ provoked him not to just sink into the memory.

He did what he should have done and rebelled against the memory, wondering that if he changed something now, would everything change? Would life be different? Would Bethany have stayed with him?

His good arm balled into a fist and he sneered, overcome with emotions of jealousy, heartbreak, and repressed self loathing and regret; it wasn’t the salamander he saw when he hurled his fist towards it, it was that damn boy’s face.

The salamander that held Raven waited until her body completely went slack. Then it began to slowly pull her up, bit by bit, into its gaping her jaws. It became obvious when her head passed into its mouth that it intended to swallow her whole.

The punch thrown by Jett did not hit the boy's face from his memory. Instead, it hit the salamander in the oozing wound where its eye had once been. The creature shrieked and then dropped the boy hard on the ground, reeling back from the pain. It scuttled down the rainbow road, temporarily ignoring both Jett and Raven.

But Raven was still in mortal peril.

When Raven's head entered the Salamander's mouth, she gave a small frown, her dream of the kiss being interrupted. Very slowly, her eyes opened and she let out an airy scream, the vision broken. Her hands once more moved to the tongue that was around her neck, digging her slightly long nails into it, trying to draw breath, struggling, as she should have done from the beginning.

s**t. She was going to die, wasn't she.

She just didn't have much energy left, and things were starting to spin slightly--how long had it been since she had taken a breath? She didn't know.

Jett landed on the damn rainbow road—again—knocking his tail bone. It wasn’t as bad this time, but—damn it—it didn’t make it hurt any less. He was vaguely jostled from his memory, but things felt off. His body was sluggish and he was having a hard time breathing. The salamander was wriggling away?

…All right, well, that was a plus. For now.

Jett’s stomach lurched; he’d been holding it in all day. Acrid bile and the snack he’d grabbed earlier erupted from his lips and he had to turn over to the side as he wretched. He heard Raven screaming but couldn’t stop his body from convulsing. He vomited twice before he shoved himself up.

He could run. He could run back inside of the outpost, nice and safe. Raven was on her own, but that’s her own damn fault. Maybe if she’d have been nicer he’d have had it in his heart to go rescue her. He stood, shakily, feeling nauseous and sick. He was going to throw up again—just thinking about the sensation of his thumb digging into that thing’s eye made him want to head to the bathroom and empty his stomach.

Jett was rocky on his legs—he wasn’t that far from the outpost and could have easily jumped back in through the hole in the wall and ran upstairs and found one of the senshi to do something.

…Raven would probably die by then, though.

Eh. Oh, well. No girl was worth dying for if it meant risking his life.

He started walking at a hasty pace towards the outpost so as not to draw attention to himself—but was stalled when the realization of running back into the outpost meant just that—‘running’.

Running. And everyone was bound to hear about this. Jett, who prided himself in never running from a fight, who boxed for the thrill of the fight, was running. His pride was everything to him—what good was living if everyone thought you were a coward? Sure, he might never see this place or these people again, but—damn it—what if he was in Raven’s shoes? He wouldn’t want some unreliable a** to just run and leave him there while he was eaten alive. Not to mention, if he let her die, he didn't know what to expect from her friends. Hell, it'd lose him any allies he'd made to just leave her here, and this was not a place he wanted to be stuck in, all alone.

A groan fell from his lips and he turned, hating himself. Adrenaline was pumping through him—and he ran towards the salamander that still had Raven in its giant maw. Going for the eyes seemed to have worked before, and now that he wasn’t being attacked, it gave him a bit more motivation to try and help out. He hurled himself towards the salamander, fist flying as he aimed again for the eyes, intending to punch and claw and tear as much as he could.

The salamander that held Raven in its jaws seemed undisturbed by her attempts to be freed. It continued to reel her into its lips and was quite successful at it until Jett launched himself at it. It wasn't that his presence prevented it from eating Raven. The monster could have easily tilted its chin up and swallowed her entirely. But it seemed bothered by the newest assault.

With a wet squelch, the salamander let Raven slip out of its jaws, but flipped her midair so that its tongue was wrapped around her ankle, not her neck. She dangled about ten feet from the ground. The salamander lifted a spotted, suction-cupped hand and gripped Jett by the stomach, lifting him into the air too.

When it did so, Jett noticed that there was a strange bright blue sac glowing in its armpit.

Raven gasped for breath, still struggling.

"Jett!" She cried, fear clear in her eyes. The blonde watched the ground, and attempted kicking at the tongue wrapped around her ankle, trying still to get the creature to drop her.

She was sure if it did, she could make it to the inside of the outpost.

Her eyes were on Jett though, he had tried to save her...Wow. Huh.

A number of obscenities fell from Jett’s lips; he was clearly not happy about this and didn’t initially see the sac; he dug his nails in and clawed at the suctioned hand clutching at him.

All right. Good news was, he wasn’t in its mouth. Yet.

Angry that this hadn’t been an ‘in and out’ rescue attempt and that he and Raven weren’t running back to the Aquarius outpost for shelter, Jett banged his fists against the toes that clutched at him, trying to harm the thing enough that it just let him go.

Jerking his head to see how Raven was faring was when he noticed the glowing sac.

…He didn’t much know about space creatures, but he didn’t think earth salamanders had glowing sacs under their arm pits. He couldn’t reach it with his fists and continued to claw—but he did the next best thing and kicked, as hard as he could, at the glowing sac. “Don’t stop fighting it!” he snarled, anger at the situation directed at Raven. This was all her fault, anyway.

Raven must roll one 100-sided die to escape!

Jett must roll one 100-sided die to puncture the sac!

Rolls of 51-100 mean it was successful.

Once more Raven kicked the tongue, letting out a scared little shriek as she fell. Ten feet down she fell, twisting in mid fall, however and landing on her a**.

Ow. Yeah, that hurt.

She looked up at Jett. "Be careful! I-I'm free!"

Yeah. Distract him. Good plan, Raven.

"Then go!" Jett snapped; he didn't want this to be a wasted effort. He'd risked his life for Raven--something he was not supposed to do--and didn't want her getting in his way, now. She wasn't as strong as him, physically, and he didn't want this thing to eat her. "Get back inside!" he ordered; he was still clawing at the hand, trying to pry himself away.

Jett, clinging to the hand wrapped around him, almost let out a sigh of relief when his foot collided with the sac; he hadn't known if he was going to be able to make contact with all the flailing he was doing--and didn't even know if the sac was anything more than a wart.

The second of the pair of Space Salamanders had left ages ago, but the more obstinate one had stayed behind to torment two civilians. Now one was free, Raven, and another in mortal peril. It was dangerous to mess with Chaos Monsters, worse still to puncture the strange glowing sacs that had been seen on so many of them. Cancer had fallen into a coma for it. Who knew what effect it could have on a civilian?

Jett would be one of the first to find out.

As soon as the ooze touched his skin, he jerked backward. The two actions caused the Space Salamander enough distress to throw Jett to the ground. But he fell limply, like a scarecrow. The last thing the boy remembered was the fierce yellow eyes of the salamander bearing down on him.

Quote:
Jett has been partially hit by the Deep Space Chaos Monster serum! He has fallen into a coma and will remain in that state for three in-character days. During that time, Jett is troubled by a strange dream. It is always the same. He is at the Mirror Pools of the Surrounding. Instead of being empty of people and surrounded by the dried out husks of dead trees, there seems to be some sort of party going on, a special celebration of sorts though it is unclear what it could be for. People in strange clothing dip in and out of the pool. Still others relax on rounded chairs, picking bright blue fruit off of the lush palm trees that bend like rubber. He has this dream until he comes out of his coma.

The remaining Space Salamander, troubled by pain but nowhere near death, lets out a final hiss at Raven and then disappears out of sight, leaving her alone with Jett's body.

Raven rushed to Jett's side, letting out a stream of curses, trembling slightly, then doing her best to drag the unconscious male inside.

When she made it into the library, she propped him against one of the bookshelves, then ran into the main part of the outpost.

"E-excuse me!" She cried, looking like a wreck. "I need some help...We...Jett and I, we were attacked...he needs help...Please! I need one of those...Senshi people! Jett's in the library--unconscious..."
